I feel like if Dunstan is an option, it is as a rookie and probably takes Clarke's spot
Can we rookie him without him entering the rookie draft and not being delisted? Can you trade for someone to place them on the rookie list?

It's improving our list by swapping them, even though it's fairly marginal

I just hope he knows he's depth and has to work his way into the 22

When asked about Essendon’s interest in King, Mahoney said the club would keep an “open mind” before weighing up whether to pursue a move for the promising goalkicker.

“There’s all options around that,”

“You look at all the different options outside (of the club) so you never want to close any opportunity, you make sure you have the flexibility with your draft hand and with trades regardless of what may come up.

“It’s about keeping an open mind with that.”

If we have cap space surely we're looking at doing this. Alternatively, it could be why the suns could be potentially open to trading King now rather than in 12 months.

Was thinking the same

Surely we look at trading F2 for pick 19 and Darcy McPherson

But yeh I believe suns are trying to open cap room for ridiculous dollar deals to Rankine, Lukoscious and mainly King

Heck even
Pick 13 + F2
For
Pick 5 + Macpherson

Come on down Finn Calaghan

No way known does Callaghan get past GWS.

Do they not need a tall? In the elimination they played with Haynes and Stein as their 2nd/3rd talls

I can see what your saying in that he seems the outright 4th best by many

Probably too risky though your right. 5-15 seems fairly even

I'd be happy with Erazmus at 5 aswell though

They do need a key defender but they can get one later in the draft if need be. Taylor's a gun, Stein is solid depth, Idun is pretty good and Buckley can play.

We're talking about Essendon here, not a chance in hell they aren't all over Ben King right now let alone 12 months out from his contract expiring. Sure, the culture of the club and approach to things in terms of list management and it being more of a sensible/realistic approach now (or at least that is the feeling) but it's foolish to think the club doesn't have King number one of their board right now. I know we've got players on the list already that could be our KPF for the future alongside Jones & Wright but King fits the profile for everything we haven't had for years (or at least since we invested all the energy into Daniher). He's just about to hit the age where he'll really find his feet, he's coming off a just shy of 50 goal haul this year in a team that is incredibly under developed so the words are just smoke and mirrors to temper the noise whilst the club try to work out a deal to get him across.

If King wants to be the number one big man in the forward line, he comes to Essendon. Jones doesn't suit playing as the number one. All that mud thrown at Lloyd for his comments about St Kilds recruiting him and it being a detriment tk both the King's development as players is right and anyone who says otherwise is delusional as they both play exactly the same. Not to mention, our list build looks so much more promising then St Kilda's, so the excitement around that feels like a bigger sell too. Essendon know what they're doing, they aren't just about let a bonafide weapon like Ben King walk away and pretend like they aren't interested. KPF, let alone ones at that sweet spot age of 21-23 don't come up to often so my money is on them again, having him as number one of their board in terms of recruiting right now. We're literally screaming out for this piece of the puzzle!

It’s funny how many disillusioned St.Kilda fans just say that Ben will play CHB when he’s probably the better fwd whilst Lloyd is on record saying both boys want to play fess which on style, they are identical stylistically as well. How does that work?

Feeling like we’ll offloading F2 & / or F3 and bundle them up with this years later selections in an attempt to move up the draft.

With so many queries over the Davey twins (where they actually sit in a draft order right now) we’re probably content if we have to go into deficit in 202:.

That's true, forgot about Buckley he came from no where

And I just watched Callaghans highlights for the first time, yep can't see him getting past pick 4 and Giants have pick 13 aswell probably look for Gibcus, Andrew, Van Rooyen or Rhett Bazzo if somehow all are gone (In that order)

We had three top 11 picks last year.

Some teams only manage to snag one, and sometimes some teams have none (like us).

If you were to spread out the three top 11 picks over 2020, 2021 and 2022 - you would have a surplus of two (our pick 11 this year - and 1st rounder next year).

Thus, if we used this year's 11 and next year's 1st rounder, on a player around the 21 year old age bracket with guaranteed talent - you would end up with basically 4 top 11 picks in 3 years.

And that's before you count in Caldwell.

The difference being - instead of waiting for the 2021 or 2022 draft pick to go through the initial first/second year motions - you have 4 top 11 picks, generally the same age as each other, having already shrugged off their first/second year yips, moving with a push towards their primes coinciding in less time.

To rookie him it would be via the rookie draft or SSP.
You cant trade and then put on the rookie list

I assume your talking King

There is no doubt the club and Dodoro will be going after him, they 100% will in 12 months if available

2022 First
2023 First
2023 2nd
2023 3rd
A.Francis (In a 3 way with SA)

A concoction of those will be used. 2022 First and Francis guaranteed to be involved

There might not be any point deficit to be taken away from our 2023 2nd or 3rd rounders due to the Daveys the year before

Good in theory. But the whole point of giving up our 11 this year and a future pick, is so that you have first dibs. If we wait, there is a chance that other teams will want him when he's a lot easier to get.

But in my post, Perkins, Cox, Reid, King and Caldwell (five top 11 picks in 3 years) all being in similar age, fast tracked and all due to fire at the same time, after a couple or few seasons getting to know each other, isn't such a bad treat to have in exchange for what we'd have to give for King this year in order to beat the line and capitalize on the allure of our potential rise as a carrot on the stick.

We don't have enough currency to entertain a deal with Gold Coast this year and neither does any side tbh

Like I don't think they take Mcgrath and 2 first rounders for him right now

He’d be taking Johnson’s spot as someone genuinely selectable and not wasting a list spot

Like, I totally get the appeal in reuniting them in the same team & how it would no doubt be a huge selling point for them as a club but like why recruit Ben if you're just going to stick Max down back (or vice versa)?! It just doesn't make any sense, especially when yeah they both are clearly very good (at their current age) as KPF's. It just seems like a disillusioned dream by St Kilda and their fans, romanticizing the idea of having them both on the same team. I honestly can see it backfiring, chucking them both in the same forward line.... they'll literally be competing for the same ball. I have no doubt one of them would transition well down back given the time put in but, given what they've shown thus far as KPF's I think that's where they clearly play best.

I have no doubt some St Kilda supporter will see this and jab at the take just being that of an Essendon supporter gunning for his services at Essendon but I think it's just being realistic - if he wants to 100% play forward, Essendon is a better home then St Kilda. It's a different story altogether if he wants to play back, then the St Kilda move makes sense. Also, as I said before - money will be a factor, we've got the cap space as it currently stands too. Not too sure how St Kilda will be able to fit him in. Anyway, it'll be an interesting story to unfold no doubt. I'd love for him to come to Essendon, sure he has some faults but all players do. Being able to kick just shy of 50 goals in a season is no easy feat, let alone in a team that is bottom of the barrel like GC. Also, I just think it'd be huge if he came to Essendon over St Kilda given how long they've apparently "had him on the hook" and seeing all their fans collectively lose their minds only to soon after pick apart every flaw about him as a player because they couldn't secure him.

Absolutely no chance Ben King would settle for playing in defence when he has shown he can be one of he best forwards in the comp.
