So Mahoney has literally said we want more picks inside 10-25. Thinking hats on, what are some ways the club can achieve that? The GC pick 19 trade seems obvious but looks like will be done to NM.
What else could we be chasing to get another pick?

Without trading players we can do it 2 ways...

Trade 11 down, or trade our 2022 1st into this year.

Most logical is bringing next years pick back, as i dont see a lot of players on the list we would want to trade who are actually worth something significant in terms of draft picks.

A trade with Brisbane for example makes sense, their pick 18 and their '22 2nd rounder for our 1st next year. That keeps the points in next years draft in case the Davey boys explode and this strategy also lets us clump together a few more picks for this year. if the teams end up about the same spot on the ladder next year it would mean we are a few points in front but thats the gamble the Lions make, if we lose a few positions they end up better off and if we really tank it out they hit the jackpot.

I think Mahoney is on the money! Get 3 picks inside 25 this year. That's 6 quality kids in over the last 2 years! Premierships have been built on those foundations. Trade next years picks into this year. Lock and load! Now is the time to bring them all in.

Particularly with us only needing points for the Davey twins. Between our lower 2022 picks and at worse deficit 2023 picks its no big deal.

Our chances of trading into the top 25 look like they're getting reduced. Collingwood apparently bringing in 22, 43 and 46 from GC. I'm expecting Richmond to trade into 17 with 26 and 28.

Lewis Young has requested a trade to Carlton

I've looked at every clubs current draft hand. And at this stage I can't see anyone doing a trade with what Mahoney wants.
Brisbane Hawthorn Richmond and Gold Coast the only possibilities. Brisbane the only club who could do without them this year.

Seriously?

You mean a 20yo guy in his second year of AFL footy who has been able to play stuff all reserve grade to develop, playing in a crap team and been a sub 2/5 games didnt look very good?

Who'd have thunk it

Yes, seriously.

Have you watched any of his games? Has not looked anywhere near the grade. Not sure why we’d blow a list spot on someone who has shown nothing…

I refer to my previous comment.

There are seldom players who have been able to develop properly over the last 18 months with the lack of second tier footy and being in hubs for so long.

To write off a 20yo because he looked off the pace in a team that were the second worse team in the comp this year, and considering the above, is rather laughable.

Kade Simpson had 0 stats for his first 3 AFL games, he went alright.

Jacob Weitering and Liam Jones?

That gives them 3 genuine talls.

I'd start by settling Young in the zoning/intercepting role. He's a guy who is going to need a bit of TLC because being a fringe player under Beveridge can be a fate worse than de-listing, particularly when you're plunged into the ruck your not suited to.

I guess it depends on how he goes over the pre-season but I'd want to get him comfortable as quickly as possible. I am not sure you want to move Weitering away from the role he is playing given that he's so good at defending and intercepting. I suspect it will be a similar situation as it was with Hurley.

They'll be angling for something coming back to trade for Young.
Dogs could do with Blues' 2nd for Darcy points
Wonder if they can swing Cerra for 6 & a future pick.

6 & F2 -> Cerra
25 -> Young
SPS -> Brander

It does help that Cerra is akin to lock 1st rd pick & given their strike rate of late removes the risk around 6 at the cost of a 2nd

Bit of hope that Brander can develop into a decent forward for them.
I'm curious on how Brander fits in with McKay & Curnow (assuming he gets fit)....perhaps he's new Gov.

Absolutely no chance
