Yep. I was exaggerating but they’ve send their second third and fourth rounders to GC and got GC’s 4th and some 2021 picks in return, which will go on Daicos.

So effectively they have Daicos this year and whoever they get with that first round pick next year and the rest of the draft haul from these two years will be back markers.

I mean if he gets bid on at pick 3 and they keep their current ~3017 points than they would get another pick around 13

Nah, the points don’t materialise as an additional pick. They’d have pick 3 and then a couple of later picks in the third and fourth round. Not sure how they’d go trying to trade up at that point.

Yeh sorry meant they'd have the equivilant to trade up to that point marker potentially

As is with above case theyd have Daicos and then 43, 46, 48, and 58 (All actually would come in a bit aswell after the Darcy/Daicos bid)

The rebuild is gonna take some time.
After the heavy trading out and then jettisoning stephenson.....

THERE'S a touch of the 'Baby Bombers' about Essendon's current list, says former recruiting manager Matt Rendell.

Doing his list analysis of the Bombers for Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio, Rendell was glowing in his praise, saying they reminded him of their famous 1993 premiership-winning counterparts.

Among Rendell's claims was that Sam Draper would be in the top three ruckmen in the game for the next decade.

"He's a beauty, competes like a mad man. I love him," he said.

Rendell also said Nik Cox, taken at No.8 in the 2020 NAB AFL Draft, would now be No.1 if the class was redrafted.

"It's the Baby Bombers, circa two. There's a lot to like about what they've done."

Oppo supporters gonna be so mad.

Now they hold 9 picks in the current draft, does that mean they need 9 list spots in order to for those picks to be 'viable'?

They're only worried about the first 7. They'll use one (most likely 41) for Lipinski. Sier, Cox and Lynch are all likely to get cut or traded, on top of the Mayne and Greenwood retirements. Then all it will take is one or two delist/re-rookie situations for them to meet the 6 rookies depending on whether or not they bring Kreuger in.

Given the Dogs need points too a bundle of the crumb picks might work for Lipinski.
Issue is that 48 and 58 puts them a little behind the threshold of pick 1 bid, unless they split 22.

I can see the Dogs asking for 78 as well as that should get into the points after Daicos.

I suppose they're also up against the active pick limits too.
Jong retired
Likely to lose Lipinski, Young, Sweet and maybe Martin

They should be fine, their issue is that they've traded out a lot of assets. They need around 2000 points for a pick 2 bid, and it could be a pick 3 bid too. So they probably need ~1800 points. After Daicos, 41 probably drops 2 spots (Collingwood likely to split 22 anyway) to 39, 75 likely to drop to 70 and that 78 to 73 makes it that they need to turn 17 into around 300 more points to clear it, so 17 and a future 4th for 26 and 28 pretty much covers the bid.

If we're looking to get a pick inside the top 25 I wonder if we look to trade a future second with a club with a pick in the late 20s (or two picks in the 30s) and then try and use those picks to get either Collingwoods pick 22 or Dogs pick 17.

Why would the pies trade 22 for a later pick?
We would add 51 and/or 56 depending on the pick for 22 so they add more points although the dogs might be more likely as they can take more junk picks to the draft for points.

But as a rough example Future 2nd + 56 for Adelaide's 37, 44 and 62 then 37, 44, 51 and 62 for pick 17. But after player trades a club like Geelong might have 4 picks in the 27 to 34 range and want to flick one into next year

Why on earth would the Dogs trade 17 for 4 worse picks? They can only take as many picks as list spots.

Because it gets them an extra 182 points. With the Lipinski pick it might get them enough points to get Darcy

They. Can. Only. Take. As. Many. Picks. As. Free. Spots. On. Their. List.

Are they going to draft 5 players?

The Dogs will have a very simple trade period. They'll probably get 41 from Collingwood for Lipinski. They'll probably get 52 for Young (via SPS trade to WC, whether or not Brander is part of the deal). That gives them 1773 points and if a bid for Daicos comes in before Darcy that currently brings 41 into 40, 52 into 48 and 75 into 70, adding over 100 points. And that's without splitting pick 17.

Richmond or Geelong look like being in the best position to get the dogs pick 17.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Fremantle make a play for it to try to get the Clark deal over the line.

Is it right that only the next pick has to be used to match points and then after that a club can chose which picks make up the remaining points or do I have that wrong?

I can potentially see a live trade

Once Roos pick JHF, I can see us giving F2 + Pick 51 for Pick 22 (Pies)

Assuming the pies will have to give up a pick 46-58 for Kreuger or Lipinski at worse
