Poster on BB saying we are into James Harmes and he is keen for the move. No idea if this poster has good info.

Anyone else have quiet satisfaction that jhf has asked to be traded.
‘I thought hood came seriously close to gloating re Clarkson and bagging our instability.
kettle- black huh
Could have had 6, 6 and 15-17 (pending Davey/Fletcher) after bids. Insane.

That article about Bowes salary being spread - if true is just cooked.
I know it’s his choice, but the whole remaining salary should have to be taken on by the nominated team. How someone justifies that as being equalisation.
that the reigning premiers can take on a player and a highly prized pick 7 and spread his money because he would rather play with a team whose gonna be playing finals year after year instead of a team in the bottom 4.

As if he wouldn’t wanna go there over us? On purely team lists and stability.
(Why anyone would want to cut themselves out of that much money is quite absurd to me)
Think it’s a bad look and AFL shouldn’t allow it. Need brad to throw his AFL house hat in and be a whinging Scott it’s utter BS

I like Harmes but getting him would seem totally at odds with what Sciott said about not topping up and focusing on acquisition of elite young talent.
possibly one mahoney had been working on pre-Scott.
would be a poor turn to abandon it imo. reckon Brad will largely follow the lead of Mahoney his off-season.

He still gets everything he’s owed and everything he earns, just means the difference between what he earns and what he’s owed isn’t all upfront.

He’d have to agree to it though, and GC would have to work something out with his existing contract so that they don’t end up paying the difference in the first two years. If they end up paying any part of it I’d think pick 7 is off the table

As it’s written in the article he’s getting short-changed. He’s owed $1,600k over two years. Spreading it over 4 is a loss (4x$400k) when you could have additional earning potential in years 3&4.
Unless the Geelong car and land package makes up the difference.

We should win the Bowes race if we offer him actually decent money on top of what he's owed.

There's no guarantee he'll be in the best 22 for the Cats, lmao @ effectively signing up for 2 more years to get paid what you're already owed and you might end up a vfl player.

An indictment on the QLD education system.

Tbf the 800k per year that he’s owed isn’t all this years salary. It’s this year’s salary plus money from last year and the year before that he hasn’t been paid yet.

4x400 is remarkably low though. Would be a significant haircut on what he was on at GC, unless he literally got paid $0 the last two years and 800k x2 is supposed to represent 4 years pay over 2 years.

He said we did need experience though. I took Scott's comments as looking to bring in elite talent at the draft and adding experience with fringe picks. Doubt Harmes would cost very much.

yeah.
would think it was something like 500k a year ave. (so a 2m over 4 contract).
If you make that up, plus another 1m for the next 2 to spread it out, thats 2.6m (or 750 a year)

Not many can cover that. Bowes is either taking a cut on his earning power to play for the Cats, or he keeps up his earning at Dons, Hawks or Roos.

What role would James Harmes play? Honestly, absolute waste of money and a list spot. Would not take for free.

I still wouldn't count us out of the Bowes race.

That the Cats and Hawks can spread out the pain puts them in the running, but we can still pay him a lot more (potentially close to his existing entitlement + additional years on the backend, perhaps with salary tied to certain metrics) and he'd be a lot closer to starting 22 calculations on our list than the Cats (although same can be said for Hawks: he'd compliment the likes of Ward, O'Meara and Newcombe nicely you'd think).

Cats are a destination club for obvious reasons, but it's not an open and shut decision for him.

I'm one of Parish's biggest critics and even I know that's unders for him
Horrible.
Perhaps I’m just in denial that Gold Coast could flick Bowes (and his salary) and accept a 20-pick downgrade. They’re already losing Rankine and Fiorini who would likely be on around 1mil between them. Now they’re giving up a Hollands (former 7) type and Bowes for a pick in the 20’s just to clear 800k off the books? Why is there no mention of a 1st going out with Grundy who is contracted for 5 years @1mil (300k of which to be paid by Collingwood if he switches clubs). For Gold Coast to trade out 7 with Bowes you’d think they must be entitled to at least receive a pick back in the teens. Under the premise that Gold Coast aren’t just prepared to roll over and take a 2nd for Bowes and 7, it’s a reasonable deal for both sides. Parish is a dying breed of ineffective accumulator, sell now while he has some perceived value.

Difference is the quality of grundy vs bowes.
Bowes if uncontracted is probably borderline to get re-signed by GCS.

So its 7 for taking on the cap space that allows them to add to their list now it's primed (and perhaps keep king).

Bowes follows cos it's his contract

Future 2nd likely gets it done

Harmes is Melbournes Mr Fix it, can play so many roles and you get 100% commitment to his role every week. A player with size and competitiveness he is exactly the type that Essendon should be looking at.
