Are we looking to trade out 4?
It seemed he was simply asked if he would consider it, so of course there would be scenarios you would consider it. Wouldnt read much into it at all.
This
i dont think we're actively shopping it, but its good to let people know a call wouldn't be a waste of time.

If the Hawks wanted Tsatas to add some dimension to their midfield, i'd trade 4->5 if they gave us a tasty sweetener next year (F2)
I want Clark, so i won't be sad with that.

He mentioned potential trades of his own volition.

Starts at 5:00.

The explicit question was a follow up about that and whether he would trade up or back, to which he said back.

He also mentioned it in the Sportsday interview:

and the Herald Sun interview:

Essendon was really poor this year when we just had Wright as our tall fwd option with no Jones.
Weid coming in at least provides some defenders coming off of Wright.

Play Stewart there. Jimmy averaged similar goals per game when he was playing forward 17-19.

We are dedicating far too many list spots to speculative talls. We've got about 14 non-ruck talls, most teams have 8-10.

Agree with this. We dont use our high end picks on talls (fair enough for the most part) but it means we stockpile development talls hoping that 1 or 2 might work out eventually. I would play Stewart forward ahead of Weid every time.

And we also have Bryan and Phillips who can be better than Draper on their day. Maybe Weid becomes the next experimental KPD.

Are hawthorn legitimately tanking for Harley Reid. People ripped north for stripping their list, well hawks have lost way more experience this off season. Gunston, Mitchell, jaeger, Mcevoy and shiels is a lot of experience to leave a club in a short period of time.

I'd still back Norf to finish last. But maybe Hawks can get Reid the following year then...

I want Phillipou so if Tsatas is the only one left and we swapped with Saints for example I'd be pretty happy

I’m all aboard phillipou train also.

I would look at 4 + 22 for 9 and future first from the saints (if possible, they said they wanted to trade up but I assume it is for Sheezel).

Then if Phillipou or ideal target isn’t there at 9 trade back further with Sydney (who said they wanted to trade up).

9 for one of 14/17 and their future first.

Option 1: probably just take Wardlaw or Sheezel if available.

Option 2: (saints deal, ideal senario for me): trade with saints. Get Phillipou and a future first.

Option 3 (Sydney): break glass option incase phillipou is for. And no other ideal candidates are there
(which I doubt). Trade back again and Grab hustwaite / hewert or a slider. Meaning you’d get a good prospect + have 3 firsts next year in a strong draft.

We’d also likely need to look to trade back in for points for matching a Davey bid.

Seems overly complicated for mine. Just use pick 4 and take best available. Should be strong consensus pick on who that is. I'd hate to start with 4 and end up back at 14 even with a F1st.

You would have to query using a top 10 pick on a player from interstate these days too wouldnt you. Those picks are too valuable to have the guy want to leave after 1-2 years and you know clubs from their home state will be knocking on their door. Seems to be why Kangas went Phillips rather than McDonald for instance (and will now wish they did the deal with Crows for JHF). Is an even bigger issue when you are at the wrong end of the ladder (which is why you have those picks to start with) as even less attractive to the player if finals seem a way off.

i don't expect weid to suddenly become a star at afl level but if he can play decent vfl footy (we do need this) and occasionally come in to just stand around being tall in the event of a jones injury then that's fine

Much like the 2MP acquisition,

pay peanuts, get a serviceable AFL player for 2 years = pass

2MP has (probably) far exceeded the pay and expectations, the Weidemann trade suggests to me question marks on the guys who should be pushing for senior selection on a weekly basis (Jones, Baldwin).

I feel like the rumored friction between dodo and Mahoney was in full view yesterday - and not just a personality clash, but an old world/new world ideological clash (no dodo doesn't read Murdoch)

one minute dodo is interviewed and its same old spiel - dress everything as a win or a potential win - we wanted a big bodied mid, we got a big bodied mid. win. we brought two TOP TEN talents into the mix. win. Both kids we wanted in the draft. win. We kept all our picks this year and future. win. now we have a high end pick #4 that we will bring another top end talent through the door - looming win. and draft points for exciting father sons win.

moments later Mahoney interviewed who to me has a broader scope in his thinking. I read it as he dosent rate tsatas for us and would rather trade pick 4 and 22 down to two picks before a davey bid.

Dodo would never entertain moving his prized pick DOWN, its too much like losing...not the done thing in the old school world - hence why we never get into any decent pick swap stuff other than periphery stuff. Hence why you get caught reaching because your pick doesn't match the talent you need.

I dunno, i never see other clubs have 2 different people interviewed in the same trade period on the same day and have different stories. its just weird to me.

Don’t know but half thinking we should - he is that good!

Watching him play out of the square v. Metro and rag doll one of the best key defensive prospects in this years draft…..he’s scary.

Posted elsewhere the other day that Mahoney and Scott have a long-standing relationship…I suspect it was a big part of Scott joining. No way Dodo gets in the middle of those two.

Wonder how that dynamic is playing out? Pretty hard to take on the Head of Footy and the Senior Coach…

if hes that good we should swap our pick 4 and future 1st to hawthorn for their pick 6 and future 1st.

they can get tsatas who they want and then we can enjoy deathriding them to last next year. (they are probably arrogant enough to think we finish last next year anyway and they get pick 1 )

That’s playing out at Board level but unless that feeds into a desire to reconfigure the footy department….I think Dodo is just a bit part now. His leverage is gone.

maybe they move him to the basement like Milton then he'll threaten to burn the place down

(hope you get the reference)

Why does this post feel like tempting fate?

doubt the hawks touch their 1st next year tbh.

If they're keen on Tsatas though, I'd offer 4 for 6 & F2. Keep pushing the top 5 narrative out there :p
Hawks & Dons F2 -> GCS for 5.
5-Clark
6-Humphrey
22-George
Then Davey's, maybe Munkara if we get lucky.

Suspect that means 4 delistings are needed.

I think you're reading too much into it. You're seeing tension that you want to see there.
