Probably a few….but how many of them looked like the best player on the park playing as a bottom ager at the National Champs?how many nominal future #1s in the under age year stay that way the year later and not get overtaken?
this time last year I seem to recall Wardlaw was already on the radarProbably a few….but how many of them looked like the best player on the park playing as a bottom ager at the National Champs?
As I understand it, there is one guy, Wardlaw, among the top 5 who is renowned for a hard edge and competitiveness.
History suggests Mahoney places a premium on that attribute and that Dodoro doesn't.
Even last year we were almost certainly recruiting Sinn until Port took him. Who knows where we'd be if Hobbs didn't slide.
Lets say the top 5 are all 90/100 prospects. Other than Wardlaw, they largely compound our midfield problem.
It then becomes a question of whether you reach for a guy who might be 85/100 with 4 to get what you want or whether you consider 2 x 80/100 players who will be available later on the draft.
I dont event think the numbers are necessarily an accurate reflection as it is more likely there is an overlapping range.
I'd trade down, every day of the week. It is also how I read what Mahoney said. It's not something Dodoro has ever done. Balance of a team is not something Dodoro has ever done.
Not sure about #1s, but there’s a few from this list that won’t be near the first round:how many nominal future #1s in the under age year stay that way the year later and not get overtaken?
No idea? What did he say about Hawthorn?

The 'Ken effect' is real, cash is king: Six lessons from the Trade Period

Essendon has said it would be aggressive in the market and use its ample salary cap space, and offered to take contracted pair Brayden Fiorini and Alex Sexton off the Suns for pick No.5. But the Suns, having executed the Bowes and pick No.7 deal knowing No.5 was coming through the door, weren't doing that.
So umm...... what?
Gold Coast attached pick No.7 to Jack Bowes and created a market for the player and his back-ended deal, worth more than $1.6 million over the next two years. It meant only clubs with salary cap space could be in the race for him, given the Suns needed to get his money off their books and took this chance to clear the decks.
They paid pick 7 to get the salary and the player off their books... ultimately it doesn't matter to them whether the player is ultimately paid the money owed, as long as they're not paying it. Feels like a problem for the AFLPA tbh.How about this doozy? Except Geelong apparently couldn't afford him given his contract was renegotiated and the amount spread out over extra years...

The AFL's equalisation stuff has a raft of issues beyond this one.

It's a shame. He was from my local club and captained my oldest in U15s so we had an interest in his career. He was a bit of a speculative pick...big bodied mid who was a bit raw (My mate coached him for a bit, and so did leggie Bryce McGain). Clubs looking for the next Bont I guess.RCD delisted by Richmond. Liked him in his draft year
they're not in every draft.but who's going to be our dustin martin, our dangerfield if you will..
Nic Martins to obvious choice for me as the bombers next superstar … he has it all in spades…. Needs to be developed … he could be anythingthey're not in every draft.
I think there's something in Perkins. Has size, has strength and lateral movement. a bit more Pendles than Danger, but stronger and more a forward threat.
We just need to harness and develop that.
is "the ken effect" thrown in specifically to troll the port board or something?![]()

that was Setterfield, who is better than RCD imo.I'd look at RCD as a cheap, big mid

Outside burning a spot on Bytel, not sure i'd bother with any more off-cut mids.
I’d trade both 4 and 22.
Melbourne- 4 and 68
Essendon- 13, F1(Melb) and F2(Melb)
GWS- 13(Ess), 22(Ess), 44(Frem), and F3(Ess)
Essendon- 15(GWS), 18(GWS), 31(GWS) and 53(Rich)
Fremantle- 54(Ess), 61(GWS)
Richmond- 62(Ess), 72(Ess)
15 Jacob Konstanty
18 Ollie Hotton
31 Alwyn Davey
53 Anthony Munkara
F1- Melb
F2- Melb
You want to slide from 4 to 15? No way.
They havnt almost unanimously been saying the top 5 are a cut above the rest for no reason. Pass for me, best available at 4 even if it’s tsatas.
from what I've seen, Tsatas is more inside but gets to the outside and can work there quite well.Tsatsas seems pretty good but investing into next years draft will most likely be more beneficial longterm. If we can get Tsatsas that’s elite but he’s a mostly an outside midfielder which we seem to have.
Martin, Durham, Langford, McGrath and Heppell all role through that position.
