Should we throw our hat in the ring for JHF?

Is the cost too high?

Is he exactly what we need and could our offer be that lucrative that hed consider moving clubs but not states?

Everyone assumes he wants back home, which is understandable. Obviousily north 6 months ago wernt concerned about go home factor

Definitly a tough battle up against the Adelaide teams and he probably could think hes just going from one sinking ship to another but if its just his relationship with coach then he might be happy to for a big dollar deal as the main man in the middle

Just think he might be slightly more what we want than a Tsatas, Wardlaw from what ive been reading. Also much further progressed which would suit

I don’t think Horne Francis would come here. If he wants money he can get it at North, if he wants to go home that’s in South Australia. And if he wants success he’ll have better options.

The sensible thing for him to do would be to take the payday while it’s on offer and go home for success when one or both SA clubs get their shit together.

If we finish with pick 3, it may be a good draft to look at targeting Adelaide/Hawthorn/Collingwood/GWS around that pick 6/7/8 range as an option to slide down and try and make a deal for something like 3 & 21 for 7 & future first. You would think one of Lemmey or Scully would be there.
Hmmm I'm not in favour.

The difference between 3 and 7/8 can be significant.

Plus the 4 teams you listed are all likely improvers in 2023. So 21 might turn into 14. Does that offset your 3 to 8 downgrade? Maybe, but maybe not.

F1 trades are usually better with ageing powerhouse teams who want talent in asap and may well overestimate next year's performance. The best target this year would be Richmond if they somehow finish top 6.

In the proposed trade you're also pushing the rebuild back a year by taking one less pick (that isn't as good as the current pick) this year. Would prefer to just make the most out of 3 & 21.

NOB’s last 6 games for the club included 2 games over 30 touches and the rest 20 and above I think. Issue wasn’t that he couldn’t find pill at all.

Interesting that we are burning both ends of the candle at once here, on one hand is Mathieson who is ready made, plug and play, on the other we have Maginness who is all raw tools but we’d actually need to develop him into something and that’s not something we have demonstrated we can do.

Bit of a piss or get off the pot situation, isn’t it. Is there a point in trading in a player if he’s not a known commodity?

I miss-posted.

I meant to use NOB as the example of a ball magnet who got the minutes and whose game converted.

I wouldn't worry about our development. We develop what we want to develop and do it well enough. If the philosophical change, re playing style doesn't happen, we're treading water for another 10 years.

What draft capital are we prepared to give up for 25 yr old Josh Dunkley?

People are going to flame me again but where are we playing Parish if we are looking at big inside ball winners ?
Just throwing it out there.

Id look to have him start hff but come up to the front side of the contest.

Mcgrath
Draper dunkley stringer
Martin perkins merrett
Parish

Stringer shifts back from CBA into a fwd role and our roaming midfield becomes parish, dunkley, merrett, perkins, martin and mcgrath.

Hobbs, caldwell and co are rotations.
Whether we see shiel part of this will remain to be seen

Alternatively parish and perkins could swap roles.

At a different club hopefully.

Interesting that the conventional wisdom around here is that for us to improve our contested footy we need to move on Parish and Shiel who are essentially 200% better than anyone else at the club at winning a clearance.

What is winning a clearance?

Reading the break of a stoppage and getting the ball in space, because that's how we set up or actually winning the ball in tight or as some sort of physical contest.

I'm not dismissive of the ability to read the play, Parish is brilliant at it as he is with ball handling.

But it's not 'winning' clearances as that loaded term implies. I see no real reason another competent mid couldn't be set up on the defensive side of the stoppage to run through it.

I think that’s an element you bring in to compliment him and the rest of the group, all the talk about putting him on the table to get a pick that might be something is barking up the wrong tree.

Not that you in particular are spearheading it, it’s just a very strange discussion point IMO.

The fact that he’s doing what he’s doing in such a bad side when we’re not really good enough to manufacture situations where he’s the free and clear ‘hit to’ player is pretty staggering, if I’m frank.

There’s contested footy and “contested footy”.

Per Champion data: Contested Possession: A possession which has been won when the ball is in dispute. Includes looseball-gets, hardball-gets, contested marks, gathers from a hitout and frees for.

They are masters at loose ball gets and gathers from a hitout. Your starting two mids should be masters at hard ball gets.

Shouldn't we be looking to improve (size) of that 4th player in the centre square?

Looking at Caldwell, McGrath (Shiel) etc?

Parish &/or Merrett will start with Draper, that leaves Stringer or someone else to do the bullocking work
