Who knows what could happen there though. He could retire. Or have another long-term injury.
Option 1 would be 5,000,000 - 1 . Option two could certainly happen. Wied is done. How long has Lav got left. I think they can sell Hayes on the future.

I dunno - the mental side of things could be worse than the physical.

Lav’s younger than Merrett, he’d have at least 4 year left you’d think.

It’s a tough one.

How would this go?
We offer Jarrod Berry a significant 5 year contest. This would not cost us anything but salary cap.
We offload Darcy Parish to Geelong which don’t rebuild and are probably in need for an experienced midfielder and a bridge between their youth and Dangerfield and Guthrie who are breaking down.
Not sure if we would get Geelong first rounder but that would be the aim.

In total.
We gain berry who is an upgrade on parish and stylistically suits us better.
We obtain a decent draft pick and don’t take a massive salary cap hit and we take parish contract off and add berrys.
This would be all for nil of course if Bailey smith lands at Geelong.

Yep get Berry, would be perfect with Merrett and Durham. Keep hearing he will stay but the longer it goes on he must not be happy with the lions offer

Torn on this.

I’m a Parish fan. Get all the knocks on his game but you don’t get an AA spot if you’re a mug. Playing a more team orientated game now.

But

Think there might be something in the stylistic call.
Berry in bolster mid field size (love Setters but don’t love the time on park).
Late first for Parish (cats trading out a few spots in an average draft).

Plenty of gaps to fill with a late first… even an early second.

Parish to the Cats makes total sense. People can go from complaining about him at Ess to complaining about him at Geel as he becomes a superstar

Reid is contracted for next year. Speculating about him retiring at 23 seems pretty irrelevant to that.

No other KPD in the league has played as few games as Reid in their first four years. He’s not your standard 23 year old.

My point remains if Hayes is going to be sixth-odd in line in his 3rd year, he may look elsewhere

At some stage we need to rip the band aid off. We are one injury away from losing all balance in the back 6 if we are reliant on Hayes.

He is just going at the moment after starting the year in good form. Not down but not dominating like he was projecting to do.

Still, I agree that at 20/21, he could look elsewhere for opportunities

I’m not on either side of the ‘trade Parish’ argument - but, he is one that if we decided to trade, we could actually get something fairly decent back.
