Isn't the general rule of thumb that success is determined by the quality of the bottom 10 or so players in the 22 rather than the top 10? I don't know that Reid really helps with that
You ain’t getting anywhere without elite players. We have the makings of a premiership team, but without the star power to get us anywhere.

Langford Ridley redman McKay parish Durham Caldwell, are perfectly fine second tier players but alongside Merrett we need some star talents. Preferably Merrett and two other inside the top 20.

We might have enough now (ducks)

Ridley (health permitting) Martin, Merrett, Tsatas, Langford are absolutely stars in their best position.

The list has had bigger problems with health, culture and balance issues. Talent is actually pretty good

In what way is Tsatas absolutely a star?

I got a bit carried away saying absolutely. But pedigree suggests that guys picked that high tend to develop their body enough to regularly play inside during year 3.

Tsatas was a top 5 pick and ripped through the VFL at his preferred position. Looked decent there in the AFL but physically wasn’t there (and has little outside game)

It’s now year 3. I’m betting on pedigree

None are super star level in my view.
Merrett is a star but he is next level down from Hird or Tim Watson.
Martin is very good but he has to prove he is at Merrett level let alone super star level. Same with Ridley.
The talent level is okay but there are questions marks on at least 10 players we will need to step up if we are going to avoid another rebuild. These guys either need to break the injury shackles or simply find the next level and play consistently at a good standard.
I have been saying for 10 years we have had the talent to win a final but we have not had the team buy in or leadership depth in the playing ranks to make it happen.
2025 is yet another fork in the road season. Will they get it or will we have to make more Stringer like decisions.

I'm old enough to remember when after their first season, plenty thought:
  • Cox was going to be a better player than Blicavs
  • Perkins would be a gun big bodied mid
  • Stringer was telling the world Z. Reid was the best of the lot
  • And Jones played well enough that random fans regularly confused him as one of the top 10 picks

I'd argue that Reid is still the best talent of the lot at least.

Think people are going way too early on these KPP. We drafted a bunch of skinny beans that people know at draft time will take until 24-25 to hit AFL standard builds then proceed to freak out when they aren't there at 22, when that was never expected. This is the year coming that Jones would be expected to have an increase in output and the year after Cox and Reid.

Stringer wasn't the only one.

And given Cox / Perkins struggles, he still is every chance to be the best of the lot.

Durham mid season (2020) SSP is easily the best of the bunch so far., not exactly national draft pcik though, would be worth top 10 pick now.

Reid being the best of the lot is a low bar judging on performance and progress to date.

Anyone else get the feeling it's all going to plan and we're all just fretting over nothing?
I'm waiting to see how Scott selects the team in 2025, I'm also keen to see how we manage our good draft hand, no sugar hits please (Houston). Elite young talent (Reid) or draft.
