We have to absolutely nail both picks for the draft to be worth it in this circumstance.

I'd have more faith in us trading for Reid, honestly.
I understand this rationale, but after tonight's interview with Brad I'm not convinced we're into Harley. Sounded like he's keen to go to the draft.

Watch or listen to the Twomey interview with Vozzo, he made it clear near the end of it that we have draft picks and salary space and that we'll be looking to use it be it drafting, recruiting or trading. Scotts messaging was a bit ambiguous though.

If the Eagles want too much for Reid, couldn't find he just finish his contract and just nominate for the 2027 draft? They could end up getting nothing for him?

Most clubs within the comp have a stronger foundation then what we do

One guy won't turn this around hitting the draft is the right call

Most clubs within the comp, the best ones, have outright A-graders/stars, something we've lacked for so long. Reid has the most potential to be that for a long time.

However my main point wasn't on the argument on whether we should get him and what he's worth and more about the claim that having an interest in an almost sure-fire star meant we had a messiah complex. Fugazi.

Had to google what Fugazi meant lol

He also said we wouldn't play underdone players, he's done that every year so far.
Yeah, but in pretty much every instance people complain about there was a fairly obvious reason - there was no one else available to fill the position. There could be other less obvious reasons that aren’t visible to us sitting in the cheap seats too

agreed,

Seems like a great prospect, doesn't sound like a wonderful leader in the young Selwood, Judd mould. Therein lies the difference and stamp we should miss

Why are we holding Merrett to his contract and not cashing in if we are rebuilding?

People will say leadership, he can't do more from a performance pov, are the players listening and responding to him off field? I don't see any evidence of that, he's wasting his time with us.

His mental resilience is outstanding, it's extraordinary if he finishes his career here.

Yep we also lack leaders from a winning culture Luke Parker would of been a great get last year (Unsure if he was FA or if we had to trade)

But we lack leaders from clubs with a winning culture i wouldn't be surprised if Rosa down the track starts looking at this as well

Players like the above they are there to improve on field standards leadership on and off the field

Scott was asked to comment on Merrett and mentioned how he is doing a heap of work off-field to bring the team to perform at the level he desperately wants it to.

There are others I'd cash in on before I'd cash in on one of the only players who is more invested in the club seeing success than most fans.

Of course you don't want to lose Zach, I'm paying devils advocate here, Zach must feel like he's wasting his time a little. The fact he fronts up week in week out and performs the way he does while others in the leadership group coast would have to kill you a little.
