In this thread, ploz provide sauces for anything you claim as fact. It can be specific such as an article link or Neale's sisters cousins hairdresser or vague such as "own sauces" but ploz avoid blanket statements with no reference point, it makes people antsy.

Footy media are lazy as heck for not going with the headline of "LOBBSTER OFF THE MENU".

no, i kinda wanted lob to go.

now there is a chance we will only draft one of amiss and jvr.

this was a chance to finally spend picks on the forward line. circumstances were lining up where we were forced to.

If we get 2016-18 Lobb it’s a huge win
If we get 2019-21 Lobb it’s not the end of the world , we need a stop gap anyway till the new recruits get blooded .
If we get sooky la-la , throw the toys out of the cot Lobb can we trade him mid season next year ?

He played 18 games in his first season. For a debut season he was pretty good. I liked what i saw.
He got badly injured in 2020 and barely played.
Geelong traded in Smith to go out all on a flag assault which kept him out of the team.
Now if he was 25 still playing at VFL level with occasional AFL game then yeah the case for him 'languishing' could be made and his development stunted. But he's 21 nearly 22 entering his 4th season. Hes played 32 games which is way to early to write someone off.
No one is writing him off are they? The doubters just don't want to overpay

Future 2nd for a player we can't replace wouldn't have been good. Not yet anyway.
but it changes our decision making this draft. i think this guarantees we only draft one of jvr and amiss

i'm not concerned about next season. does anybody think we win the premiership next season. I'm concerned that in 5 years time when the majority of our talent (essentially drafted from 2016-2021) is at its peak we will only have treacy as our only tall forward.

"We exhausted all avenues to try and assist GWS facilitate this trade in which we believe all parties would benefit in the long run," Young told AFL.com.au in a statement.

"I advised all parties at 7.30pm Sunday evening by email that this trade would not get off the ground so we should all move on.”

"....we believe all parties would benefit in the long run" eg. Especially the party of Colin Young, the only one he cares about.

Hmmm. I think this shows unreliability of inside information. a few days ago the post was that Lobb's situation was untenable and he would not be at Freo.
CTD has been telling me these things in a PM, I think he could word his posts in here a bit better but his mail has been good. For example, I dont think he was ever told Lobb is out, just that him and Young are going about this poorly in the eyes of some (and CTD extrapolated a little). Off the top of my head, the only times he's been "wrong" has been him extrapolating a bit on the info given (ie expecting a big name and Lobb being out).

What?

2019 is arguably his best year, 2016 the other one

2016, 2019 and 2021 are definitely his top 3 years...

Next year is better for ruck forwards by all accounts.

Fixed.

Good, we couldn't afford to lose an established key forward when we're trying to make finals next year. You can't rely on an injury prone Taberner, a 2nd year Treacy and a bunch of rookie key forwards. Those guys aren't going to get us to finals like we're going to do next year. Lobb was a must.

So Bell was telling the truth & Colin Young was just agitating for change.
Went to Colin Young’s website and saw all the players under his management I mentioned a lot of players who change club.

I really think he gets in the ears of players about leaving or threatening to leave to get a better deal.

Even the players who didn’t leave a club, their were rumors of the player leaving ie Ballantyne to West Coast, McGovern to Fremantle and S Hill to Gold Coast.

If we just get the Clark deal done now, then we would have had a decent trade period overall, considering the circumstances. And we're in a very strong position going into the draft, considering we started with 8 + 27.
If we don't do the Clark deal now, and some how the Lobb deal occur then we would have had a decent trade period overall.

I guess, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
