In relation to the Carlton loss of draft picks drama, one of the rumours circulating around is that clubs (ie. Richmond, Freo) were warned before the trading period that Carlton could lose picks and that clubs traded picks at there own risk.

If this is true, what sort league are the AFL running.

If Richmond trade their pick 4 for Kane Johnson and then find out later it was actually pick 2 they have egg on their face.

If they don't trade pick for Kane Johnson and then find out later that Carlton don't lose their picks then they have missed out on their much need mid-fielder.

Are they supposed to be mindreaders or because its Spring carnival racing season, clubs should just take a punt on what picks they actually have until Demetriou makes up his mund !!!!

Agreed totally.

But I would Happily trade pick4 for pick2 if it meant that scum of a club Carlton lost the first two picks.

Its kind of obvious. Trade away picks at your own risk. Unless Richmond were not reading the newspapers it was quite well known that Carlton's draft picks were under some doubt.

Its not the AFL's fault that Carlton tried to stall them and refused to cooperate. You cannot lay any charges until you have all the evidence.

Next year

Next year, when, not if, when, the afl finds other clubs guilty of salary braeches how hard wqill they come down on them. There must be at least 3 or four clubs that are running real clo9se

Yes but are they deliberately paying their players secret commissions? Have they been doing it for years? Are they under a suspended sentence?

WHAT ABOUT

paying money to players who have set up businesses, which have not and do not look like making a profit?? Propping them up??

Difference

What is the huge difference between 2 and 4? Lets face it chances of getting a good one increase the higher you go but it is no guarentee. Richmond made a decision to pursue established players rather than youth. If they wanted youth they would not have traded number 4.

A few clubs are flying close to the wind here.

Thats why Carlton need to be severely punished because their offence was systematic and deliberately fraudulent. That will make other teams reassess the merits of cheating.

99

Y though can i ask did the afl tell the blues NOT to take part in trade week, like they did to essendon ( and melbourne ) i think, inn 99, so as not to compromise the draft

How could they tell anybody anything if they did not have enough evidence at the time?

Innocent until proven guilty - even for Carlton.

yer

agreed but in any case, the trade and draft is still compromised. ANy scenario could, but didnt i know, happened. What if a leak suggested we were to lose the two pix. Say we gave freo pick 1 for croad and 2 for Yze. As a member, or coach, of that club, you would be mighty ****ed. Jacko and Hermie should have been here in oz, looking after issues here, not on some farken junket getting shagged in farken ireland. Bunch of Contemptable maggots they both are. Would have rather known before the trade or the deadline, sop we could have said, ok this is our position, we cant recruit, cant trade, we may have to stick to our list that we have, so we are not short of players. If fed up with the whole thing. The afl, no matter what happens , have further tarnished thier reputation

The only contempable maggots in this case are Carlton

The only tarnished reputations are those of Carlton players and administrators who cheated.

Instead of blaming the AFL why don't you ask how a salary cap cheat like Steve Silvagni can be elected to the Committee, especially after backing Elliot throughout the whole campaign?

as you said

as you said, innocent till proven guilty.

Well like Jack has done to all his businesses, he has r*ped and farked us for the next 5 years... thats contemptable
The afl has handled this poorly, Jacko should heck off back to scumsville and Hermie should stop whispering in Dogfaces ear when he is reaming her.

I agree, the AFL has terrible professionalism at the moment.

And it will only get worse when Demetriou takes over from Wayne instead of having him as a personal puppet.

These blokes have the gall to think they know what is best for every other league in Australia too.

I don't think they are really concerned about what is best for any other league. They perhaps should but I'm not even sure of that. It is in their long term interest to have healthy competitions but whether it is their responsibilty or not is another matter. Regardless of the view on that I can't see much evidence that they care much about a few of their own clubs let alone ones in other comp's.
