Im quite happy with Sandgate. Greater history and support then any other northside club

Not sure that Sandgate (at this time) are in any position to fill the void if the Eagles don't keep going - mind you there is strong whispers that the Eagles will still be around in 2008.

As for history I think the Eagles would be hard to toss.

Windsor formed as an QAFL team in 1923, won 18 Premierships (one shared with Sandgate as North Brisbane). Sandgate formed in 1943, won 7 Premierships (one shared with W/Zillmere as North Brisbane).

Not doubting that Sandgate are a great club and hopefully they too are on the way back from the "brink", but we need a "non-aligned" Northside club to ensure the best young players from Kedron, W/Grange, Ferny, Aspley, Strathpine, Caboolture & Redcliffe have a State League club in their vicinity. Aspley have the money to do so and a strong junior base but have alienated themselves a little because of their attitude, therefore you either love'em or hate'em.

Firstly just wanted to say that i hope zilmere can stick together and continue playing next year. I know alot of the players who play down their and i think it would be a shame if the couldnt continue. Most of them i think are playing their because it is the highest level on the northside, not because of the money. If it is the money that theyre there for then they dont deserve to be there because theyve had planty of chances and still cant get off the ground.

Then i think aspley would be the obvious choice for an elevation to div. 1. Other clubs have a good history and other factors, but really money and juniors is the key, both of wich aspley have. I dont think a merge with zilmere is ever going to happen either. aspley will want their name in the comp, not a combined name. also, If they were to merge with zilmere then this could cause an excess number of players being at aspley and this would force the lower ranked players to leave which would also be dissapointing.

However zillmere do fold and lose their licence then obviously there would be a range of players doing different things. Some would go back to their old clubs, eg. sandgate, grange, kedron etc. Some would also go to other state league clubs such as mt. gravatt and western magpies.
If the hornets were to get into div 1, then ofcourse they would be able to get more quality players to the club. Remember that is why zilmere have such good quality because being able to play at the highest level attracts players.

Also i have no idea where this aspley directing players to mt gravatt theory came from. When a player decides they want to play at the next level then they ultimately chose where they want to go. If someone decides they want to move on then aspley will be dissapointed in losing someone who has played at their club but they have to move on and get over it.

lastly i want to try and get rid of this arrogant name that aspley has for itself. i dont really know where it came from or if its beacuse we have successful juniors or enough money or i dont really know. but all i do know is that there are a great bunch of seniors and plenty of juniors who are all great blokes and are playing at aspley to enjoy their footy, have as much success as they can and also have a good time.

We need a AFLQ club on the Northside so players wanting to go to the next level or beyond can do so. There is also nothing wrong staying with
your Junior club if thats what you want. We need a new non aligned Northside club. Windsor/Zillmere/Windsor-Zillmere/North Brisbane and the Zillmere Eagles or whatever their next name is have had their go and failed many, many many times. Yes it's sad if they were wound up but at least Kedron,Mayne,Sandgate and Wilston-Grange have remained in the local comp's one way or another.

Consider that every other AFLQ Premier club has juniors except Zillmere.Zillmere gave up on juniors some years ago and just recruits other clubs....in that case a new non aligned Northside club is the way to go.Now what about a Name,Colours and Homeground. I await your incoming barrage.

In the short term the Zillmere need to stay in the comp and if not perhaps Aspley can fill that role however in the long term we need to two functioning State League teams north of the river one around Zillmere and another around the central Brisbane region. Ideally if Mayne had remained at Windsor park or in State league (they won more games in State League than Redlands did in 2007 or they did in Div 2) it would have covered it, yet we cannot change the past and perhaps the idea of a non aligned state north brisbane and a central brisbane teams could work (including 18's and development squads for local juniors).
The AFLQ and AFLBJ and north Brisbane clubs (Senior and Junior) would need to get together create a workable structure for AFL north of the river that will stop the drift to the Mt Gravatts etc. We can talk till the cows come home, but until the governing bodies and clubs get together I cant see an effective outcome that promotes top grade football on the northside. Individual clubs are already competing for limited resources already.

The hard part for having a non-aligned team/s is for clubs to give up any aspirations of having a state league team and requires some tough decisions to be made (like North Melb moving to the Coast) by AFLQ and individual clubs, good luck.

BANG you said it basically what i wanted to say

What annoys me is the fact that the AFL make hundreds of millions of dollars on tv rights etc, they should be financially propping up all qld clubs to help grow the game, if the eagles need 150k they should get it and then the AFL should put people in place to run the club in a viable way. I know it wasn't the Eagles folks fault that this has happened. But i think the AFL should be involved in keeping this club running.

Yes it is the Eagles folks fault. They chose to get into bed with Shawsports....another poor decision by Windsor Zillmere/North Brisbane/Zillmere Eagles/Insert 2008 Name here. I'd say
Zillmere/Shawsports are already being helped out by the
AFL (sorry AFLQ) having the Northern Raiders based there.

Aspley,Sandgate,Wilston Grange/Mayne and co need to sort out their
differences and get a new non-aligned Northside AFLQ club going
with the help of the AFL (sorry AFLQ).

Pretty simple response to that champ. There is to much history and pride for the clubs to just simply "sort" out there differences, it just wont happen bud.Especially Mayne and Sandgate who would be to of the most well known and successful clubs in Qld let alone the northside. The supporters and officials are to stubborn in their allegiance to do anything.Look at Mayne, they should be down a division or two so they can actuially win games, but alas no, the Mayne officials will keep struggling to recruit anyone as noone likes training all year to get flogged each week. Someone or something must be put in place to fix northside afl. The gold coast has a fair share of teams but doesnt seem to suffer from the same dramas as th e brisbane north clubs......the question is , why is that?

Hard to say what one would do when a "Knight in shining armour" comes along and promises the world with the apparent back-up of Kedron Wavell Services Club and a management team. The Eagles management at the time must have felt it was the right thing to do.

Problem is that Shawsportz appear as if they couldn't organise a "chook-raffle" and there are a number of sporting clubs under the Shawsportz banner which are not entirely happy with the arrangements.

I assume Shawsportz get money from the Raiders (read AFLQ) but it appears that goes into "propping-up" a collapsing infrastructure rather than back into sport which does nothing for the Eagles.

The word on the street is that the Eagles will fly in 2008 and beyond - not sure how though.

Easier to recruit I'd assume. If you were a Victorian moving up to play footy, where would you rather go? Surfers or Geebung?

Yeah fair call that one man. Seems the coast groups have fierce jealousy of each other yet the clubs are doing well and seem to have lots of money for light, ground and change room upgrades.

Being a former sandgate junior, but out of the scene for a long time now, I've found this an interesting discussion, apart from the occasional abuse. What's Sandgate's set-up ATM? Do they still have a social club? I don't know enough about the clubs's setups to know who's in the the best financial position to be THE club for the northern suburbs.

I think the real area that needs to be looked at is the growth area from the Pine River north. There's going to be a shirtload of new estates popping up around there - North Lakes is going to massive and it's got a ways to go. Where do the kids go to play from these areas? Strathpine? Redcliffe? Caboolture? Correct me if i'm wrong, but Narangba Valley High has an AFL program (like Sandgate District High), so what's being done to nurture this area? This is going to be where most of the young kids are on the northside.

If the eagles didn't get into bed with Shawsportz then they wouldn't of survived fullstop. It was a night in shining armour scenario, what also annoys me is the fact that many eagles supporters ( i don't support the eagles) have put plenty of their own cash into the club. So to blame them is beyond me, aflq clubs cannot, unless propped up by local business etc etc survive. Aflq administrators must get serious and sort this out. The eagles must stay.

Old Sandgate junior hey, good to see bud. Sandgate has as of the moment no social club as it was destroyed y vandals when the club played out of Zillmere for the 2006 season. Plans are in place now for a new one to be built on the exact same site, i heard this should be approved within weeks.

I agree with you on the sentiment of north of pine rivers. As it stands i believe only Sandgate and Aspley would be where players would go for a decent level of competition as they are both within ten minutes of this area. redcliffe, Strathpine and Caboolture do not have a decent standard of competition and both Redcliffe and Caboolture are further then sandgate and Aspley to this area. I know Narangba have a junior side but there wont be another northside team placed into state league as i have it on good authority that the next area of concern is the Sunshine Coast. Northern Brisbane have enough senior sides as it is with 5 teams within 15 minutes of each other.

Looks like Zilmere will be around next yr, so lets all move on. Seems like the same old comments are being rehashed.

Back to the footy this yr, can anyone shed some light on how there AFLQ(DIV 1)teams are shaping up this yr?

Looks on paper to be a very tight yr, with only 4 teams now playing finals. You would think that on last yr's form and the early talk around the traps that:

Top4 in no particular order would be:

Gravatt
Labrador
Southport
4th spot could be a real battle between Morningside, Lions and Eagles.

Think that Redlands and Broadbeach may struggle a little, however Hart has taken over Broadbeach, and a I am sure that he's AFL experience will hold the squad in good stead.

Anyway, it's only early days so this is really all here say, but would love to know who has picked up who for next yr.

What are they going that bad at this stage to warrant advertisements for players???

Does anyone know if Brett Voss is going to be playing in the AFLQ this year? If he is, does anyone know if he will be returning to Morningside or playing elsewhere.

Broadbeach losing Fulton this year is going to be a huge hole for them to fill.

Ben Fixters 'appointment' to Labrador will further streghten their claims on a finals berth for 2008.

The usual suspects will probably reign again this seasonlike most. Southport, Morningside and Mt Gravatt will fill the top three places I believe with Labrador & the Lions fighting it out for the last spot.

just one question who do you play for
and from what i'm hearing grange are looking very good as a mate of mine has agreed to play with them next year plus they have picked a couple more
so mate i think they are just putting the feelers out there to finish off a good list

but hey your club must be full of superstars

Congratulations for your mate. unfortunately our club hasnt got all the superstars coz your not there champ. Im sure the poster can respond to his own defence. Everything with you is about your mates have done this or your mates are playing here or they have agreed to play somewhere else, I think you have told me 4 different clubs now.Werent you the one Watching Aspley training, and passing judgement too?

Where do you play or do you just like thinking you know about every clubs lists.
