PREVIEW:
Following the Carlton and Melbourne matches being moved round 6 sees Collingwood play at home for the first time this season.
For the second week running we play a side below us on the ladder, albeit we're only 2 points ahead of GWS who recorded their first win last week at home in a low scoring game to an inaccurate Melbourne (3.2 20 vs 1.9 15). Thankfully we were also on the end an inaccurate opposition with Fremantle squandering many chances they had to snatch victory in the final quarter, which seen them notch 0.5 and fall 1 point short. Unlike our victory against the 'dogs our the match against Fremantle was a lot more open and we put together some nice passages of run and carry footy and good ball use. We really seem to have gelled as a group and are learning the strengths and limitations of the group and teammates. A clear game plan and tactics are also coming through and becoming obvious to the fans.
I like that we're playing a loose defender with Hutchins against the 'dogs and Stevens against Freo taking some great intercept marks to set us up from half back. Both feature in top 4 disposal winners across the season, which highlights their importance. I also like that we're now looking to shut down an opposition ball winner, which has been successful over the past fortnight; like us however GWS have a more even spread. In saying that Dal Pos and Swanson are head and shoulders above their teammates as ball winners, so I suspect Eva and/or Bonnici will look to lock one of them down. King (152 hitouts) vs McKinnon (101) who are the top 2 rucks in the comp shapes as a game defining battle.
The run home:
For those keen this match sort of serves as a double header with the netball, which starts across the road in Hisense at 3pm.

The run home:
- Should we defeat GWS we avoid the spoon
- Should Carlton defeat Fremantle we avoid the spoon even if we lose to GWS
- Should we lose to GWS we're no longer a mathematical grand final chance
- Should Adelaide defeat Melbourne we're no longer a mathematical grand final chance even if we defeat GWS
- Should Carlton defeat Fremantle; Melbourne defeat Adelaide and we defeat GWS we remain an extremely slim grand final chance. To get that chance we'd need Carlton (vs Brisbane) and Melbourne (vs Fremantle) to both lose next week and for us to defeat Adelaide while massively boosting our percentage across the next fortnight
- Similarly should Carlton lose to Fremantle; Melbourne defeat Adelaide and we defeat GWS we remain an extremely slim grand final chance. Should Carlton lose this week don't need them to lose next week, but it would still be nice because who doesn't like seeing a Carlton loss!
For those keen this match sort of serves as a double header with the netball, which starts across the road in Hisense at 3pm.
