There will be an announcement at Norwood Oval this afternoon with Erin, Rob Chapman and Steven Marshall.

State government funding for? I assume they're tipping money into an upgrade for the oval, if it was just about more money for women's football they'd do it at Adelaide Oval or West Lakes.

AFC again copping a whack, ABC news saying that the funding is causing a stink, as the Womans basketball dipped out but the well funded AFL gets a handout?

I think the flak is more targeted at the government than the club though. The government has slashed funding for women’s facilities left, right and centre recently, so I can understand why the government is copping some heat over the funding.

The best announcement from yesterday was that Erin was roaring to come back for next season! Hopefully no more quad injury and we can still see the best of Erin!

14 teams for 2020, wouldn’t think the remaining 4 will be far away. Season will have to start getting a bit longer you’d think. I really like the way the the AFL are trying to build this sport. Like anything, you can pick individual errors or things that you disagree with. But overall I think they’re doing their best to build a successful league for the right reasons.

Would be interested to hear a bit more on how the lower leagues are going for numbers and required infrastructure. If the elite league is driving that, then it’s doing it’s job.

Oh No !

Is that a bandage on the "Great One's" Knee ....no, not the shoe, click to expand the image

Interesting pic! Would be interesting to see how she’s training in January 2019. The fact she’s bending and smiling whilst the ice pack, suggests to me not a serious issue.

Too many teams, too soon .....not enough talent for 6 extra teams .....standard will drop, as will public interest .....shocking decision !!!!

I don't think it will drop, I think it will mean that it won't improve as much as it would have without the extra teams. I think the AFL doesn't want the late coming teams to be too late to the party and I'm sure those clubs are applying a fair bit of pressure.

8 teams first season .... 4 years later, add a further 6 & you don’t think the standard will drop .... wishful thinking !

The argument that the standard will not drop is this.

Chloe Molloy (19) came second in the league b&f in her first year (and 3rd year in footy).
I think Huntington (19) would have shown she is better than Malloy if she hadn't done her ACL.
Best player in the GF was Conti (18).

I genuinely think there are at least 3 or 4 18/19 year old draftees who can win league MVP in their first year next year.

This doesn't happen in men's AFL.

Clubs that lose good players to expansion teams get to replace them with players out of the youth system that may be better, and who will impact from game 1.

Prespakis at Carlton could already be their best player, and better than any player they lost.

The problem is, losing good players to expansion and replacing them with good young players tends to leave the club treading water a bit. Had teams been able to keep their players and replace the spuds with the kids, that would really turbo charge them.

It's offset by the natural improvement in the player's skills due to greater numbers having played more football coming into the competition. It's coming off a very low skill base due in part to a fair number of alternate sports players getting a gig purely because they're professional athletes. The players coming in over the next couple of years will have more football behind them in better lower leagues and this is how the quality of the elite competition increases. That increase in quality is diluted to the new teams for sure, but I think the end result is that in terms of quality, the status quo will remain.
