I was under the impression it's about the fact they are planning on more clubs than games - ie you don't play each club once and you're very likely to get the lobsided conferences again

It’s in the advertiser today. Seems that the pay rises aren’t up to scratch given the extra week(s) of the seasons to 2022. The below games are 1, 2 and 3 more than what’s offered by the AFL and they want a commitment that every team plays against each other by 2023. Then there’s something about the wages being aligned to rookie wages and they want a pay equity review at some point during this CBA.

I’m still not convinced that the AFL’s grand plan is for AFLW to be anything but an off-season superleague type comp designed to build participation in the state and junior leagues. I’d like to know either way, but I reckon a misalignment of end game could be what’s causing the angst.

With the Draft early next week. I was trying to ge my head around who or what they need to draft. Best Under 18 then SANFLW best or a needs basis.

I was having uneven memories of the season.
Season 1 we scored 42 points a game ranked 1 Against 26 points with best percentage 157.3%
Season 2 we scored 33 points a game ranked 5 Against 36 points sixth best percentage 92.37%

This season we scored 59 points with 15 scoring shots a game and averaged 40 point wins.

I forgot about the Round 1 loss to the dogs at home kicking 1-11 17 to Dogs 2-6.

We basically tried to keep the Premiership 21 together by signing 20 of the 21. Only McCormick leaving for a crack at the Matildas
The two doubtful with ACL Scheer and Phillips. With NT Thunder injury to Hannah Martin ACL now on Inactive list
The non Grand final players kept were Metcalfe recovering from preseason trial game ACL, Nikki Gore and Ruth Wallace returning from Inactive list. With Rookie Nankivell now on inactive list.

So our player loss is Jess Allan, Hewett, Perkins, Rosenzweig, Riley, Lugg, Sedunary and McCormick.

So my predictions have been Montana McKinnon, Hannah Munyard, Jaimi Tabb, Maddie Newman, Courtney Gum, Najwa Allen and Hannah Dunn. I think the 8th player should be able to be KPP - defence in backup for Sarah Allan and Rajcic or key Fwd maybe Chelsea Biddell who also had a go at back up ruck

Centre Half Forward
Chelsea Biddell (West Adelaide FC)

West Adelaide’s exciting forward backed up her inclusion in last year’s team with another selection in 2019, this time in the prestigious post of Centre Half Foward. Kicked 14 goals for the season, one of which was a contender for goal of the year after taking streaking down the wing at City Mazda Stadium.
Half Forward Flank
Nadia Von Bertouch (North Adelaide FC) – CAPTAIN

The Roosters skipper is selected as the leader of the Team of the Year due to her unselfish play and willingness to play in a multitude of roles. Got thrown into the ruck at times this year while also acting as a tall on-baller and forward.
Centre
Czenya Cavouras (South Adelaide FC)

The Panthers’ tall and athletic midfielder thrived on the opportunity provided by new coach Rick Watts in the absence of departed premiership stars. Cavouras proved a handful for opposition coaches to match up on while chalking up an average of more than 18 disposals.
Wing
Hannah Munyard (South Adelaide FC)

Continued to elevate her game to earn a debut berth in the Team of the Year. The 17-year-old runs hard to find the ball to illustrate why she is one of the exciting young prospects in the competition.
Half Back Flank
Jaimi Tabb (Woodville West Torrens FC)

The AFL Academy prospect divided her time between the midfield and defence but one thing didn’t change – her attack on the ball. Tabb was a consistent performer for the Eagles in their debut season.
Half Back Flank
Cheyenne Hammond (South Adelaide FC)

Last year’s winner of the Best Afield Medal in the Grand Final picked up where she left off to be her damaging self off half-back for the Panthers. Another player to earn her second Team of the Year guernsey in succession.
Back Pocket
Madison Newman (West Adelaide FC)

Entrusted with the kick-ins, Newman showed why with her polished disposal by foot coming out of the back half for the Bloods. Highly valued player at Richmond due to her determined attitude.
Full Back
Amber Ward (North Adelaide FC)

Rarely beaten deep in defence this year as she built on her solid debut season of 2018. Is on her path toward representing her State at U18 level for the season season in succession.
Ruck Rover
Najwa Allen (Norwood FC) – VICE CAPTAIN

Took the competition by storm with her ability to influence the outcome of games with her strong play through the midfield and attack. Averaged more than 25 disposals per game while also kicking seven goals for the season.
Rover
Hannah Dunn (Norwood FC)

Like Allen, Dunn put her AFLW skills on show throughout the season to prove she could also find another opportunity at the top level after previously playing for GWS. Averaged more than 20 possessions a game for the Redlegs.

13) Montana McKinnon (South Adelaide) – Ruck/Tall Forward
Joins Jaimi Tabb as the other Croweater in the AFLW Academy for good reason. Incredibly mobile and athletic, McKinnon is entering her third SANFLW season which could see her inject even more consistency into her game. Like Leah Cutting, she becomes an extra midfielder when the ball hits the ground while also gaining plenty of distance with her kicks.

Until every team plays 2 games against each other the competition is compromised, much like the mens. If you have 18 teams then you must have 34 rounds. thats ignoring the mcg/finals issue.

And McKinnon.....very strong overhead too.

To be fair, I'm not sure you could create such lopsided conferences again if you tried. Out of all possible ways of partitioning the teams into two groups, the AFL somehow chose almost the worst possible one (at one point it was the worst possible one, until a couple of upset results happened).

Don't get me wrong, I hate conferences too, but we shouldn't assume that it will usually be like it was in 2019. That was an exceptionally poor choice of conferences.

I would go with the same conferences. With Gold Coast and St Kilda in Conference A and West Coast Richmond in Conference B. Even though A dominated last year these might have evened up a bit. I don't want all the non victorian teams in a conference.

Conference A.
Adelaide with 3 players recovering from ACL and another Player Inactive ACL
Fremantle finalist but lost 10 players to West Coast
Melbourne - Daisy and Sloane back with Burch
Western Bulldogs lost stars to Richmond
North Melbourne small losses
Gold Coast taken half of Brisbane including Captains
St Kilda the Sleeper

Conference B
Carlton lost Davey kept mostly GF team together
Collingwood Grabbed Davey
Brisbane lost half team similar strength to Gold Coast but beat them 3 out of 3 in Winter Series
West Coast halved WA equal strength to Freo
GWS the sleeper
Geelong lost nobody
Richmond picked stars like North in 19

I didn’t realise we’ve lost the NT partnership and that’s gone to Gold Coast

The entire NT Thunder football club, men and women, was wound up by the AFL as part of it, in another strong showing from Gil and his merry men

To save you all from following the draft tomorrow, here's who we are picking

Montana McKinnon (South)
Jaimi Tabb (WWT)
Chelsea Biddell (West)
Madi Newman (West)
Najwa Allen (Norwood)
Courtney Gum (GWS)
Caitlin Gould (Glenelg)
Nicole Campbell (South)

Munyard will go to Victoria, with bulldogs picking her up if she slips through

I'm actually excited to see what we can produce for next year, with 3 of our current mids (Erin, Scheer, Martin) all still on the sidelines.

I hope Ponter gets a chance to become a full-time mid and stints resting up forward. She is silky smooth!

Not a surprise to see those names selected, think Gould (tall utility) and Biddell (forward) impressed in a couple of mid-year games with Allen and Campbell also, both of those also strong in around the ball in the SANFLW. Still feel the Gum recruitment is a stretch as insurance to replace Phillips for the now to try to win another flag, she hit a bit of a brick wall last season and had fitness worries, if she can regain some 2018 form it will be a good move if not she’s taking a spot away from someone with scope for improvement.

Need to find a spot for Montana McKinnon in the team next year, if it’s not in the ruck with Jess Foley or Metcalfe there it needs to be around the ground either Forward or Back, she’s a brilliant reader of the play and her positioning work is beyond her years. Can’t waste her like we did with Jess Allan when she was drafted to the team in 2018. Madi Newman’s the other player who can slot straight into the team replacing McCormick as the user of the footy off the half back flank, with a superb kick she can set up play if given space to work in.

Don’t have high expectations on Jaimi Tabb, she’s got a strong mature body for her age which has allowed her to do a lot of bullocking work at lower levels, her skills have never been up to standard in the games I’ve watched her play and that’s being kind.

That’s a shame about Hannah Munyard, she’s been very good if not lacking a bit of polish in the SANFLW Comp as an under aged player and she improved with every game she played at the under 18s championship, is also the most athletically gifted of the young SA girls.

Just hope a South girl nominating Victoria like her doesn’t put the idea into Teah Charlton or Indy Tahau to do the same next year as those two are generational players, the best I’ve seen, even better than Scheer and Jones.

Is Scheer really a mid? She played exclusively as a forward this year.

Martin was more of a winger too, but she played the role well. I wonder if we'll put Nikki Gore in this role?

Is Caitlin Gould related to Will Gould from Glenelg who will be drafted in the men's league?

Montana's family are quite anti-Crows, it'll be funny watching them pull on the colours.

Great family though.

Don't we technically get everyone from SA we want? The draft only matters for clubs with 2 or more teams in the state.

We will continue to get the very best SA talent until Port enter?

Yes, assuming they all nominate for SA.

It won't be long before Port enter the comp, though. And when they do, they'll be given carte blanche to raid our list for established SA players.
