Rule adjustments confirmed for 2023 NAB AFLW Season

The AFL has approved rule adjustments ahead of the 2023 NAB AFLW Season.

In short, the four rule changes are:

• Quarters extended by two minutes
• Interchanges capped at 60 per game
• Boundary throw-ins to take place from the boundary inside the 50m arcs
• Runners can only enter the field three times per quarter, plus after goals

Carlton fans will be keen a close eye on McKay, who is the daughter of Andrew, and eligible under the father-daughter rule. She is tough, has clean hands and can explode from a stoppage with class, while also going forward and hitting the scoreboard.

If it wasn’t for Brett Munro’s mismanagement, Prespakis might have stayed at Carlton. Munro destroyed the Carlton AFLW club, and has set them back a good five years. Buck won’t last and will prove to be a Brendan Bolton figure. He is playing Moody out of position.

Carlton AFLW need an experienced coach. A club in their position will not benefit from a coach like Buck. If he continues to play Moody out of position, she could leave at the end of the season. How long will it be before he loses the players? If Carlton AFLW don’t beat West Coast this weekend, it’s season over, and possibly the wooden spoon.

The AFL has not helped Carlton AFLW either, by allowing the expansion clubs to pilfer talent. This has set the club back further.

Until Munro’s wrongs are addressed Carlton AFLW will not attract big name players. It’s sad to see what has happened, as this club was looking good, yet now they are in an unnecessary rebuild due to one person’s ineptitude, and bloody mindedness. Munro refused to negotiate with Harris, and this was the beginning of the end. Half of Richmond’s best players are ex Carlton players. Most departed due to low morale courtesy of Brett Munro.

U17 AFLW Futures - Sophie McKay earning the match MVP.

MVP McKay helps Harris home in U17 Futures thriller

Sophie McKay won MVP as Team Harris knocked off Team Schleicher in a thriller in the 2023 AFLW Under 17 Futures match today.

Playing for Team Harris in their win over Team Schleicher, she finished with 30 disposals and six clearances in a solid display.

Winning the overall MVP, it goes without saying McKay starred in the win. Racking up 30 disposals, and a lot of those around the coalface, McKay showed her smarts and class time and time again. There were a few instances where she handballed to herself under pressure, and stepped through traffic with ease. On one occasion a handball to herself on the wing boundary line set the wheels in motion for a Team Harris goal. She had a shot on goal that missed in the third term, but finished the day as best afield for her work on the inside and spread to the outside.

2023 Trade Period and Draft dates, and re-signing details announced:

AFLW sign, trade and draft details confirmed

The AFL has confirmed several key dates for the AFLW competition, including the sign and trade period, the draft and the W Awards

The 2023 AFLW Trade Period will run from Thursday, December 7 until Thursday, December 14.

Off the back of a landmark CBA, players can sign 12-month minimum contracts without a cap on maximum terms.

The 2023 AFLW Draft will be held in-person at Marvel Stadium on Monday, December 18.

In line with the AFLW Season Eight Supplementary Draft, nominees will be permitted to nominate for a ‘national pool’ again, allowing draftees to be considered by all 18 clubs in the NAB AFLW Competition.

A player can nominate for their home state’s draft pool or nominate to enter in a national draft pool.

Each player who is required to relocate through the draft will be eligible for expanded relocation benefits as included in the recent CBA.

Personally thought it was an absolute ripping tackle - but u need some level of consistency across all formats of the game, if Boyd/Sicily had done that, they would have shot & buried them in the car park
