When is the trade period?? I assume we at the moment have picks 15, 33, 51, 69 and 87.

There is nothing at W's website https://www.afl.com.au/aflw in general or at the draft link - https://www.afl.com.au/aflw/draft

The national draft will take place on 16 December 2024 during the 2024–25 AFL Women's player movement period, which will run from November 2024 to March 2025.

In June ...... Later that month, AFL executive general manager Laura Kane announced that the AFL Women's draft would transition to a fully national draft for the first time, following feedback from clubs and the use of an "opt-in model" in the 2023 draft, where nearly 70 per cent of draftees (including twelve of the top 16 selections) nominated for the national draft pool rather than chose to remain in their home state

Ok found this page from a google search rather than an easy link on the W's homepage.

As we approach the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft, we are entering an exciting new era with the introduction of the league’s first ever National Draft.

On December 16 at Marvel Stadium, clubs across the country will select the best young players in a truly national draft pool, drawing from every corner of Australia.

ABOUT THE 2024 TELSTRA AFLW NATIONAL DRAFT

  • The 2024 Telstra AFLW National Draft (2024 AFLW Draft) will be held on 16 December 2024.
  • All players wishing to be considered for selection are required to nominate for the draft by going to https://www.play.afl/draftnominations between 9am (AEST) Wednesday 6 November and 3pm (AEST) Wednesday 27th November, 2024.
  • Players are able nominate for the National pool only.
  • Players are eligible to be selected by any Club.
  • The 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft order is based on reverse finishing order positions from the previous season as well as any compensation draft picks allocated by the AFL.
  • Each Club must make at least two selections in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft.
  • AFLW Clubs will be provided with a full list of draft nominees after nominations have closed, including any players nominated as potential Father-Daughter or Northern Academy selections (see below).
SUPPLEMENTARY SELECTON PERIOD

  • Clubs are permitted to keep up to two (2) spots open at the end of the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft to be used in the Supplementary Selection Period.
  • The Supplementary Selection Period will run from 12pm (AEDT) Monday 3rd February 2025 until 2pm (AEDT) on Friday 28th February 2025.
  • Within that Period, Clubs will be permitted to select and advise the AFL of their final Primary Listed player(s).
  • Clubs can select players from within their own State or from another State (or overseas), with the player needing to agree to sign.
  • Only players who nominated for the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft are eligible to be signed.
  • Relocation costs as agreed by AFL and AFLPA in the 2023-2027 Collective Bargaining Agreement applicable to AFLW players shall be payable by each Club where a player meets the criteria agreed between AFL and AFLPA in the CBA applicable to AFLW players.
FATHER DAUGHTER RULE

  • A player may be nominated by an AFLW Club based on the Father-Daughter rule if their father played at least 1 AFL game for that Club.
  • Where relevant, an AFLW Club must submit a Father-Daughter nomination form to the AFL by Monday 18th November 2024 (note the player must have separately nominated for the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft). The Father – Daughter bidding process will take place during the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft.
NORTHERN ACADEMY CONCESSIONS
  • A player may be nominated by the Brisbane Lions, Gold Coast Suns, Greater Western Sydney Giants or Sydney Swans under the Northern Academy concessions if the Player is a current member of the respective Club academy program and meets the Draft eligibility criteria.
  • Where relevant, an AFLW Club must submit a Northern Academy nomination form to the AFL by Monday 18th November 2024 (note the player must have separately nominated for the 2024 AFLW Draft). The Northern Academy bidding process will take place during the AFLW Draft.

Our list had 29 active players + 4 inactive - Indy Tahau, Hannah Ewings, Lauren Young and Hannah Dunn.

Don't know how long they can stay on the inactive list for, but Tahau (Sept 2023) and Young (March 2024) did ACL's, Dunn was pregnant ( expected child in October) and Ewings is off on personal leave, since August.

There must be a limit on how many you can put on the inactive list and replace them as skipper Janelle Cuthbertson tore her ACL in early September against Bulldogs in the game at MCG before the Bulldogs v Hawks men's EF.

Trade period Thursday 5th December to Wednesday 11th December.

We are looking at Ella Heads from Sydney.
Did you get that from the AFLW or AFL site? If so can you put the link for future reference.

As you called out in the other post, given the number of players we had was up at 33, due to the pre-season listings of injury backfills, we look like carrying at least 3 picks into the draft given our delistings.

It's nice we've fallen below the Crows even after a good year, getting access to the best SA talent again.

Wonder if Ewings will be released? Hope to hear something around that soon.

Tahau, Young & Cuthbertson you'd all think will be ready to go or very close by Rnd 1.

I don't think there is any zoning this year, everyone just goes into the national pool, same as the gents

This is the biggest bullshit piece of statistics ever. Its based on the actual draft positions players were taken in.

And you've got things like Elaine Grigg nominating for the National selection because Port and Adelaide were both filling their lists with players opting to stay local only.

Piper Window wasn't falling to 19 in an open draft and Also ignores Lauren Young, Matilda Scholz, Erin Brooksby and Shineah Goody being taken out of the SA draftpool pre-draft.

If all those players were in an open draft, there's no way that Port gives up pick 4 to slide back to 18 for Kirsty Lamb.

33 - 4 retirees - 2 delisted = 27 with technically 3 still on the inactive list.

From post #6 and the AFLW website article.
  • Each Club must make at least two selections in the 2024 Telstra AFLW Draft.

Rookie me Central sent me an email to their 2024 AFLW Draft Guide about 10 minutes ago. You can't down load it so here is a couple of screen shots of their top 50 rankings.

Of course #1 ranked is a northern academy player and they can match the bid. She is a member of Gold Coast Academy and was an all Oz player in 2023 and 2024 and last year as a bottom age player won the carnival's MVP.
