If we manage to keep her, that'll be great, but I just can't help but think that she'll request a trade at the very first opportunity
The positive thing I take from this is that we’re the 2nd most likely club to retain her. She slid for a reason

We will probably have to lay on the ‘retention mayo’, but it should be easier for Harper than it was for him with Tippett (that may have been too low a blow)

You'd have to assume we did our homework on this one. Given that Rasheed slid as far as she did, it's probably safe to assume that clubs saw her as a potential flight risk. I'm sure we wouldn't have gone out on a limb without at least asking the question of her.
When Port traded down she knew the only chance to stay in SA was to come to us.

Why ??

Izak Rankine didn't request a trade from the Suns at the first opportunity, Brodie Smith didn't want to run to Port.

The vast majority of players don't get to play for the clubs they supported as kid.

People wet the bed too much over this stuff

Just saw Port picked Chloe Gaunt and like I said Brisbane didn’t match, looks a good player but will be behind Houghton, Teakle, Levicki and the returning Tahau and Young… interesting to see how many tall forward options they have on the list where as the Crows have only Gould and maybe Tarlinton, totally different list ideologies and builds.
Levicki has retired - I think this is the main reason we picked her up.

Ah I somehow missed that, I was a fan thought she was getting better as a player like you said makes a lot more sense especially with Jacques also gone & Tahau is always a chance to go back as well to help that area too.

I'm not wetting the bed, I get why we picked her because you can't pass up talent like that if it slides - if anything the photo of the Rasheed's in Crows scarves is worth the pick alone haha

But comparing male draftees is a bit of a misnomer as movement in the AFLW has been alot easier thus far compared to the AFL

anyway it was just a feeling based on nothing (because I do not know the family personally at all )

Look forward to seeing what India can produce at the highest level for Adelaide :)

Does anybody know how long the initial contract is for an AFLW draftee? Is it a standard 12 months or is there a longer contract for higher picks like in the men's draft?

Contracts are now a minimum of two years.

The WORST that can happen is that India can improve our team in 2025 and then ask to be traded whilst still in contract. We should be able to get a very good player in return.

Similar story to Dan Curtin. If the Eagles/Dockers want make a bid for him after 2 years of his three year contract, he will not be cheap.

In both cases the BEST case scenario is for them to have many, many successful seasons in the tricolour.

While she's obviously a talent, she's a draftee - how convinced are we she's going to smash it in season 1?

Reasonably confident
Since 2021 these are the number of games played by first-year (18/19 y/o) draftees/recruits under Clarke;

Prowse - 1
Tonon - 3
Ballard - 4
Kustermann - 1
Mueller - 5
Smith - 1
Boileau - 4
Henry - 0

Most of these games were with minimal actual time on ground as well, Rasheed as immensely talented as her junior footy record shows her to be will most likely firstly have to really convince Clarke to play her as a teenager which as shown here he has become increasingly reluctant to do over recent seasons.

I get what you are saying but India was touted to go early in the draft. On that basis and on basis of wanting to keep her happy at the Crows, she should play more often than not in her first year, barring injury IMO, and I think Clarke will understand the nuance of the situation.

I agree that we've been slow to play draftees, but of those names you've mentioned the only one who came in with anything close to the reputation of Rasheed was Prowse, and she was an undersized ruck at SANFLW level who needed to develop a second string to her bow.

A better comparison would be Charlton, who came in and played plenty of football in her first season despite us making it to a grand final.

If it wasn’t under the old state-based system I’d argue Boileau & Kustermann would’ve been ranked as late first rounders at least talent-wise, I do agree that of course she’ll most likely get more games than those I mentioned but the question was what amount of impact she’ll have in the first season and I would temper that given even if she plays a majority of games she’ll be played in a less prominent position given the team make-up (most likely out of the forward pocket) and will still likely have less minutes on-field.

Probably would expect more of the equivalent of what Eloise Jones experienced, played all games (7 - in a shorter season) but was played out of the pocket and off the bench. Jones is probably the SA junior I see the most similarities with Rasheed.

Maybe for the same reason Erin left as soon as the Power came in? The Rasheed family seem to have black and white/teal blood.

Erins father is an All-Time great and premiership captain.

Roger and Hitaf are supporters..... ENORMOUS difference. Its absolute bedwetting at its finest.

Hitaf was more than a supporter. She worked for 10 years as General Manager - Communications at the Power. Was Roger a Director on their Board?

There is a big difference between what Erin did and what India may do, but I believe it would be for the same reason. Her heart would be with the Power.

Absolute rubbish.
