AFLW AFLW Season 2022

All eyes will be on the Bulldogs v Blues match tomorrow night. We need a Bulldogs loss to keep our finals chances alive but we what really need is a big win for Carlton to give us a realistic chance of overtaking the Dogs on percentage. Fortunately, the Bulldogs will be missing two of their better players (Wilcox & McLeod) and the Blues will be boosted by the return of Gab Pound. These changes might just be what we need to qualify for the AFLW finals for the second time in our club history!

Blues started off well
Started well but fell away in that second quarter. I'm guessing the wind is wreaking havoc and if that's the case then we should see more scoring from the Blues in the third quarter. It should also be pointed out that the Bulldogs are playing on a six day break after competing in Perth last week so I expect them to tire at some point in the second half. Here's hoping we get the result we want in about an hour from now!

so close.

Next season just have to win enough not to have to rely on other results. But its been the suns most successful season, I think?
Their season pretty much mirrored the men’s season. Some good wins, mostly competitive, couple of bad losses to top teams and dropped a game or two they probably should have won—which would have got them into, or at least on the cusp of, finals.

Still, good signs considering what players left over the off-season.

Given the amount of players that were important from last season that left, the unity of this group to win as many as they did is a testament to the connection. And that will only improve with more games and continuity by playing together.

Nice to see another Gold Coaster in Krystal Scott making her debut tomorrow after beginning her AFLW journey back in 2017 when Brisbane drafted her. Hopefully she gets a win in her first game!

On reflection, this has been a great effort by our girls this season. No Pregelj, No Stanton, No Levi 1 & Levi 2, No Gee. They would all slot into the team if they were able to play and lift our side into a finals challenger team!

Mid table about right.

A long way behind the best 2 teams, a fair way in front of the expansion teams.
Can match it with the teams just above us but hard to win.
Start favourites against the teams just below us, but can lose.

If the 20 to 23's can kick on next year, will be a fair bit better.
That includes Bella, Hampson, Whitfort, Rowbottom, Jones and D'Arcy.

Still lots of youngsters who might take a fair leap as well. A bit of raw talent there, but not translating.
Have to be hopeful about Bush who had been struggling then turned it on for the last game. Looked a class above the defenders.

Any idea if the Levis are coming back next season?
I believe one of the commentators said at the start of this season that the Levi sisters were expected to return for season 2023 but official reports I've seen suggest that we've gone after Teagan but not necessarily Maddie. Probably because Maddie is genuinely one of the best rugby sevens players in the world and Teagan seems to spend a fair bit of time on the bench. I'm sure Rugby Australia are doing all they can to ensure Maddie lines up in the green and gold at the Paris Olympics in 2024 but I get the feeling they wouldn't be that bothered if Teagan left the sport. Teagan was definitely the better Aussie rules player out of the two Levi sisters so it could be a win-win for both sides when you think about it but who knows whether they're willing to split and play separate sports at this point in their lives. There's also the possibility of either of them converting to the NRLW and signing for either the Titans or Broncos and I'm sure their manager Mat Rogers (yes, that Mat Rogers) is keeping that option open for them. Hopefully we get at least one Levi back for next season!

This won't be a popular take but I'm 100% over the Levi's.

If they wanna go play rugby then all the best to them but enough of this teasing "we might be back" stuff. It does no one any good.

If we want to make finals we need a squad of girls that want to be here and make footy a priority. Not an afterthought.

Can't keep waiting and waiting and what if..

There will always be another commonwealth games or olympics. Where will it stop? Surely comes a time where they are given an ultimatum, given their contracts for AFLW must expire this year?

I wonder if they are getting paid from the Suns given they technically are still contracted.

Sadly for us I think their manager being involved in Rugby is probably biased and pushing the girls into that direction instead of AFLW.

Yeah. With Teagan too, you can’t tell me in the month or so after she got drafted she decided to choose rugby over AFLW. She would have been thinking about it before being drafted and did the dirty not just on us but also any of the young girls including those in the academy that could have been drafted into the team but didn’t as Teagan was taking up a spot and a draft pick.

Wow! you blokes are being a bit tough I reckon.....

I know if I was 19-21yo again, and had to choose between representing my home town or a rival sport that came to me and offered me the chance to represent my Country, travel all over the world and play for my Country in the Olympic Games and World Cups, I know what my answer would be.
