Houston we have a problem ...

There’s been much discussion on the BB about age v youth. So I thought it might be helpful to look at our list.

So, our best players (as per MC)?
Hurn (35)
NicNat (32)
Shuey (32)
Gov (30)
Cripps (30)
JD (30)
Gaff (30)
Yeo (29)
TK (28)
Hunt (27)
Sheed (27)
---------------
TB (26)
Ryan (26)
Duggan (25)
Cole (25)
Waterman (24)
JJ (24)
Oscar (23)
BWilliams (22)

So that’s 19 (with 11 currently 27 or over).

That leaves (with age/games)*
Clark(25/9)
West (23/19)
Foley (22/23)
Jamieson (22/9)
XON (22/24)
HEdwards (20/11)
LEdwards (20/11)
Culley (19/4)
Hough (19/15)
Chesser (19/0)
Bazzo (18/9)

That’s 11.

*NB: Langdon (56 games), Petro (54), SPS (108), Rotham (46) and Witherden (81) have had plenty of opportunities so at best they’re ‘depth’.
Also it seems Winder, JWilliams and Trew are either not ready, will be delisted or not favoured by MC.
And the wild card is whether, like 2022, the S&C might create a huge availability of positions.

What does the MC do?

PS: this doesn’t consider the possibility of getting games into our draftees.

I don't see how Dan Houston will help. He's 26 next year

So much vigorous discussion on youth v age elsewhere. I'd like to see how people think we can play all our 'best' 19 plus give the newbies and draftees a fair go. Do the maths - unless we have again have serious injury issues then there simply will not be enough games available for the newbies and draftees to show or develop their skills.

It is a serious issue.

Sure if we play all our best players (IF they get on the park and IF they can perform somewhere near reasonably) then we'll definitely rebound in 2023. (But I can't imagine we can make the eight, and even if we do so what? - we'd just be making up the numbers.) Then will we improve further in 2024?

2023 is the season to experiment so we know in 2024 e.g. if LEdwards or Clark or West or Foley or Jamieson are worth persevering with.

Gaff on form over the last 2 years, shouldnt be in the best 22
Not disagreeing. But I’m talking about who MC have shown as their preferred players. And I don’t doubt we’ll do better if most/all their preferred players play. But I’m thinking beyond any rebound in 2023.

If the MC don’t give more priority to the fringe players they’ll have little chance to develop.
