Takes up to (and sometimes over) 60 seconds to have a shot at goal, yet the umpires have never called play on. Whatever happened to the 'Matthew Lloyd' 30 second rule? It could cost a team a chance at victory if he lines up a shot with over a minute left and chews up 60 seconds of playing time.

Bump, because Ahmed Saad's set shot routine is the funniest thing I've seen on the field this season. He looks like a zombie! It has me in stitches almost every time, so it should stay.

I always thought that as long as you begin to walk in to take your shot within 30 seconds you're fine. Not sure on that though.

Would explain Saad though, he probably starts his run in within the time but because it is 300 metres long it takes him a while to kick it.

"Run in" is really not an apt description, as he takes about 30 steps walking before breaking into a jog for the final few steps before kicking...but it's so comical that I can forgive him for it.

You do realise that once he begins his approach the count stops yeah?

I didn't pay attention to it. Surely it's not that funny? Oh god someone YouTube please.

It does in practice because the umpires don't enforce the rule, which I guess is the point OP is making.

To the letter of the law, the player should get 30 seconds until play on is called, regardless of whether he has kicked it. The clock is still counting while he is approaching. Otherwise, theoretically, a player could take a mark 40m from goal, SPRINT back 100m behind the mark, then approach very slowly one step at a time and burn a few minutes off the clock without getting called play-on.

Is that so? In that case they have never enforced the rule then. Ever since the rule came in they have given players a 10 second warning and as long as they begin their approach before 10 seconds they have never been called.

One of my favourite players outside of North, love how he dances on his toes, hope he's not a flash in the pan.

Geez, slow news day huh?
He's kicking straighter than anyone else going around, apart from Kosi.

I assume you are referring to saints players only? The Freo lad is the best kick for goal in the competition.

Works very well and is usually pretty straight, so I don't mind at all. He looks like he has quickened it up a little since he got a bit of attention about it (receiving tool of the week etc.). Hopefully he keeps doing despite the criticism as it is very effective.

I didn't notice him taking a particularly long time last night, but I was absolutely dirty on him for massively improving his angle on that deliberate oob free early in the first. Sneaky/clever/lucky.
