Ray Stevenson's character and his apprentice are not Jedi. Baylan Skoll was a Jedi but he's not now. He has gone to the dark side. They are Inquisitors.

Not to be pedantic but they are not inquisitors. Inquisitors all reported to vader and the emperor. These guys are just fallen Jedi who are now dark side users.

Though the droid guy Ashoka fights looks to be a former inquisitor. Expecting him to be mince meat pretty soon. Ashoka has beaten two inquisitors at once easily in the past.

Really enjoyed that. Was much better than I expected and it hopefully it continues.

Lightsabers into the upper body don’t seem to be of much consequence anymore haha, between this and Reva during Obi-Wan. If only Qui-Gon was that lucky :D

To be fair qui-gon was still alive even after obi wan fought maul, lost, fell down, waited awhile then leapt up and cut maul in half. At least 20 minutes. So qui gon bled out.

Have watched the first ep. Enjoyed it. Watched a Rebels recap video (under 10 mins) which definitely helped set it, but:

I don't remember Sabine having any Force sensitivity? Am I forgetting something?

I don’t think bleeding out is a thing in Star Wars from lightsaber blades, I thought it cauterises the wound due to its heat. Anyway, I wasn’t being too serious in my post. It was just a little aside I mentioned as it’s a bit of a running gag (along with force healing etc) in the Disney era of Star Wars.

Hands down my least favourite part of the new content. Makes them far less exciting to me.

Enjoyed the first 2 eps overall. Thought it was a touch slow at times but it's setting a few things up.

Nerd in me coming out but the map definitely looked like a snitch from Harry Potter. Half expected it to grow wings and fly off.

Well, to be pedantic, you're not a Jedi anymore if you've gone to the dark side. He's not a Sith Lord, as there are only ever two of those, a Master and an apprentice, and we know Palpatine is still alive. So it doesn't leave many other options as to what to label him. Inquisitor is what I will stick with for now. But you can call him what you want.

I thought it was good. I’ve hated everything Disney has produced recently, but didn’t mind this.

The exposition was a bit cringey at times, but considering not everyone would have seen Rebels, it’s probably necessary.

As someone who knows nothing about Star Wars, doesn't generally like Star Wars, hasn't watched any of the new shows, I watched the first 15 minutes and thought it was okay (then fell asleep)

Is there anything I need to check out before watching this so I understand what's going on?

Are you my wife?

I was aware going into this that I was feeling a bit negative because of having seen some of, and not been interested in, Rebels, the general decline in Filoni's live action work, and lack of interest in how some of the animated world had been incorporated into live action so far. So I tried to make a conscious effort to put that away and really watch it on its merits. Which mostly worked.

I really enjoyed the beginning... the crawl, the ship panning, the style of the New Republic ship, the vibe of Baylon and his apprentice (even though I generally don't like the idea of Jedi everywhere when Luke was supposed to be the last). It really captured the Star Wars feel, which is not surprising because it shamelessly cribbed as much as it could. I like the overall idea of an Imperial Remnant waiting to restart the war with the New Republic, given it was the the basis for so much of the EU books. It feels like what The Mandalorian should have been focused on more instead of getting sidetracked for several seasons. And even though I don't think anyone will do Thrawn as well as Timothy Zahn, I'm looking forward to his introduction.

The downside is I don't find any of the main characters (Ahsoka, Sabine, Hera) that compelling. I'm sure people will say their back stories make them compelling, but I don't have them and neither will a lot of people, so they need to do more with them. Both droids were pretty annoying. And the biggest issue is neither Ahsoka or Hera look any good. I don't know if it's because what you can get away with in animated form doesn't carry over into live action or just poor make-up work, but it looked kinda rock eisteddfod (my wife's words). The overall show veered from looking very cool (the skies over Corellia, some of the planets) to a cheap knock-off of Star Wars (which kinda makes sense cause it doesn't have the same budget).

Overall, about a 7/10 and if it can maintain that, it will be worth the watch. Hopefully it can get better though.

Almost word for word my thoughts.

I get the feeling if I watched Rebels and Clone Wars I would have enjoyed watching this a lot more, but I didn't so I don't. Some decent plot reveals like
the Corellian shipyard workers still having loyalty to the Empire anyway
and
Sabine being Mandalorian

Some glimpses of quality are there, and will definitely watch the next episode because Thrawn sounds menacing, but the new characters haven't hooked me in yet. Ahsoka herself is just meh, Sabine has promise. Struggling to understand the importance of General Syndulla either.

You could easily just read through the plots of rebels and clone wars.

Great, but I only needed a cursory knowledge of the events of Rogue One (and obviously Star Wars as a whole) to get maximum enjoyment from Andor.

I can understand fan service, don't get me wrong - but Ahsoka at the moment is not a brilliant show like some claim. 7/10 as JackOutback said - certainly far from bad but has a lot of flaws and lack of engagement with the more casual viewer that I hope get ironed out as the series moves on.

I enjoyed Baylan and his apprentice but from what I can tell they are fairly minor so far compared to Ahsoka/Hera/Sabine.

Apart from Andor, has Star Wars ever been 10/10 quality?

Don't think there's people saying Ahsoka is Schindler's List. Compared against Obi-Wan/Boba Fett/Mando S3 it's been a solid start.

Empire Strikes Back. Next closest The Last Jedi.

Not all masterpieces need to be Schindler’s List. Die Hard is a masterpiece of action filmmaking but no one is confusing it for an essay on the human experience.

Misinterpretation and goalpost shifting about movie rating here, so will leave it there.

Point I was making, don't think anyone ever labelled this best thing since sliced bread, just a lot of people enjoyed it, and was a good start after a few so-so entries from Disney.

Personally, I didn't think Obi-Wan was that bad, but it seemed to rattle a fair few fans.

Mando is of course on another level but that's because it leans into the western aspect of Star Wars heavily and Grogu is Grogu.

At the moment, Ahsoka at least is not another BoBF...

At least 20 minutes? The scene happens almost in real time! Ten minutes, tops, allowing for a few minutes of Maul taunting him from behind the barrier.

Loving this so far.
Haven't watched Rebels or Clone Wars, but vaguely familiar with some of the happenings and characters regardless.
Tempted to watch some of the Disney+ recommended episodes, but get the feeling it won't be totally necessary.

I gotta be honest and stated that I just had Clone Wars running in background during work so have little idea who said what when in that, not seen rebels or anything else from thjat time as hell, I want an war epic for Clone Wars period, not animated drama. This just seems to be following the usual SW trendline of spoken context - > something happens that impacts main -> fight -> cliffhanger resolution for an 8 episode season, so in isolation with the 2 episode drop you can generally get enough info on peeps to make calls about who might be important.

Take the Baylan example you mentioned, given they're named after norse wolves chasing moon and sun in a space opera setting, do you think that'll remain a happy union throughout or will thee be a branching occurring? So you can kinda go through with just cursory knowledge (thanks AC Valhalla) and come to such solutions just based on names chosen for example.

Now if it follows the Obi Wan line of needing to actually resolve things to status quo instances cause you stuffed up, then it breaks at the fight and hey presto, can kill off people in text crawl later. Which speaking of which, 7/10 as default font, and red, do better.

I have followed the main stories in the Star Wars movies but have lost attention in the many spin-offs. Andor was the exception. I don't know who the main characters are in Ahsoka, and I don't find any of them particularly engaging. The actors deliver their lines woodenly as though it was a rehearsal walk through.
