Promising shiny new toy..

Has now killed will Kelly's career

As I've previously said I would train him as a full back

Perfect height and agility for it
It’s an absolute no brainer!

Hats off to the coaching group on how they used him Sunday though. Going into it I was struggling to wrap my head around using him exclusively in the ruck and not using him as the number 1 ruck. Somehow they pulled it off with him not only producing from very limited game time, but going big based on what we’ve previously seen from him (that’ll probably be a season high performance).

I doubt it’s sustainable for too long and soon enough a team will get hold of us out of the centre with this type of strategy, but I’m happy to ride it out for the next 10-12 weeks to get the game time into Begg. Grundy rolling forward more over 23-24 with Begg chopping out could be something we look at as he matures if he isn’t shifted back.
Pablo, the thinking man's poster!! If only we had more of this kind of common-sense around here! I do agree that Begg could have a real future as a key defender, as he has the physical attributes and the competitiveness to succeed. I'm sure Leppitsch would love to get hold of him and draft him into his group as soon as possible!

You picked out ONE statement in a post and ran with it.

Very little I hate more than taking one statement out of context with the rest of the post.

So yes that's cherry picking in my

I don’t understand the need the pigeon hole him so early in his career. Let him play where the opportunity exists. I am sure he has plenty of work to do on the basics before they start looking at specialisation.

Being around the ball and getting involved in more contests can only aid his development, regardless of where he may finally end up.

Around the ground stats.

15 disposals
4 marks
3 tackles
8 contested posessions
87% DE
5 score involvements
1 score assists (looking at you Ginni)
3 clearances
4 Inside 50's

Has played 7 1/2 games since 2018 (2 U16 nab league games in 2019, 2 U18 games in 2021) Shoulder injury. 3 1/2 games of VFL in 2022 (got concussed during game 3)

Mighty impressive.
That’s nearly what Horne got isn’t it?

To some extent I was kidding! I thought that would have been reasonably obvious, but perhaps should have thrown in even more exclamation marks to try and remove any doubt!! I do believe Begg may well have a future as a key defender, and that may be the best spot for him down the track, but not for one minute am I suggesting we try him there in the next week or so. I'm very happy for him to keep doing what he's doing currently, and to just keep developing nicely as he is!

I've had a few over the years that could of been very fruitful whiskeytown

Mate it's so obvious I hope they see it also

Would like to add i agree..

Get games into him BUT trial it when Grundy back or when sent back to VFL ..

This was my conclusion too. I hadn't been quite sure what to make of him from VFL form, but his debut was a good one, particularly for a young tall with a very disrupted last 2 years
One of the things that was very noticeable was such clean hands at ground level. For someone thats 198/199cm thats just crazy.

And do we talk about the fact, when he kicked the ball that Gnni marked on the line -- that was from about 55 metres.

I know that Ginni did the right thing, but that roost would have been an epic Rocca-esque first goal

He said he was nervous but he didn't show it. He looked completely at home out there and if he had held back on that last handball to Lipinsky just a second longer and set him up for a goal it would have been the cherry on top of a great debut.

Agreed. Looked more comfortable than most kids in their first game. Couldn't have asked for much more, and he's only gonna get better

KPD is not really a too outside the square suggestion given it was suggested as within his capacity when we drafted him.

I love his cocky attitude. He looked unfazed last week. Lord I'd love him to do something special on Saturday. Richmond poster mentioned our injuries and said only Grundy counts as he doesn't rate Elliott (or Roughy and Krueger for that matter.) Obviously a very good judge of a footballer.

He's winding you up. Everyone rates Elliott.

Love Last week how he got Some Clearances after the Ruck Contest with his Athletism. Bit like how Grundy was doing it when he was Dominating

Keep It Up Begg

55% TOG

McRae's comments highlighted this with his 15 disposals.

It felt like a very Hardwick-esque move to concede the hitouts but improve ground level competitiveness.

I think I need to change my perception of the role a bit to appreciate it.

Still I think if that's to be sustainable longer term he must be better in the hitouts to be accountable.

I agree with the idea of developing him as a key back though suspect he needs to improve overhead for that.
