according to google USD$100k to $200k

but perhaps just repainting the tail would suffice
I would suspect that would be for the 777’s or larger aircraft
Heard yesterday that VA were given an extra 12 flights a week from the government.

Adelaide-Perth
Perth-Port Headland
Melbourne-Brisbane
Brisbane-Cairns
Brisbane-Mackay
The email we got yesterday morning

Adelaide to Perth - 3 returns p/w (was zero)
Brisbane to Melb - twice daily (was once)
Brisbane to Mackay - 6 p/w (was 5)
Brisbane to Cairns - 4 p/w (was 3)

Perth to Pt Hedland, Perth to Karratha and Perth to Newman haven’t put on any extra flights but have upgraded the aircraft from a Fokker 100 to 737’s

Whilst in some serious financial trouble, Thai Airways hasn't filed for bankruptcy rather they have gone down a chapter 11 route to protect their assets with the Thai gov selling their stake to a mutual fund. the outlook is bleak though, they havent made any sort of profit since 2012 always wonder if the A-380s operating costs have smashed airlines in general.

This is kind of frivolous but I wonder what airline lounge food set ups will look like in the future, I'm guessing they can't do it the way they currently do buffet style.

I'm stunned that IGA's in perth (like a foodland) has already opened up buffet lunch bars

I guess it is cleaner than fruit and veg, where people are touching the actual products

I'm also stunned people would choose to use public transport

Not much of a choice when parking is so overly expensive in the cbd for work. PT for $30 a week or drive for 100+

Thai has only got 6 A380’s.
Thai Airways have suffered from financial mismanagement and has been known for years to run giant deficits, having an ageing fleet and being used for personal enrichment plus a private taxi for all sorts of dignitaries in the country.
It doesn’t help that Thailand has experienced a LCC boom with no fewer than 6 LCC’s running the same golden routes and undercutting Thai Airways

Bain has a bit of an asset stripping reputation right? If they win is there more chance there will be no new Virgin?
They would most likely strip it back to a LCC. Would be a lot of staff and a lot of routes cut

My understanding is that the Federal Government is subsidising domestic flights for both QANTAS and Virgin to the tune of $164m for 8 weeks, that 8 weeks is up on Sunday, 07 June. I haven't seen anywhere that it has been extended at this stage.

I flew back from WA to Vic on 20 May, work were giving me the shits and imo, were really floundering dealing with interstate workers during COVID, so I left early. My flight back from WA was on a 737 with a seating capacity of 176 as far as I can see. Due to social distancing the middle row is left empty so that takes capacity down to around 120. On my particular flight there was about 60 people, 30 for Melbourne and 30 travelling on to Brisbane. Without government money, there is no way that's financially viable.

My worry is that the sweet spot as far as BHP is concerned and probably for the others in WA and all around the country is that working for 3 months before flying home has that sweet spot around 09-10 June, two days after the government subsidies finish.

Is there even going to be planes flying for the 1,000s of people all over the country that are wanting to go home to see their families? I mentioned this to management a couple of times before I flew out, I don't think they really appreciated what I was saying to them.

I haven't heard if the subsidies are continuing, but I would assume they would. Though I know that the airlines will continue to not be charged by ATC for a while still. So even if they do start flying more, it'll be at a lot lower expense.

and the problem with that is that Australian Aviation Services aren’t receiving any income and look like having to “restructure” as they don’t qualify for Jobkeeper

Why do you think i'm happy about the repercussions of a restructure?

Why do you think that’s my intent?
I was genuinely asking about the review that what proposed back in December after the Mr Mintie case - it was in MSM you know

Yep. It's happening. This is why Virgin should have been nationalised instead of allowing the vulture capitalists to fake it over.

Without tourists our domestic market will be cooked. Simply isn't the demand outside of school holidays/ christmas/ easter to sustain more than a very modest industry.

Particularly now as less business types will fly, rather resorting for zoom or similar platforms.

A significant amount of domestic flights are international visitors flying between cities while they're here.
