Alan Howe's article- "lots of glass houses, lots of stones".

I'm not splitting hairs at all. I'm concerned about people trying to get an unfair advantage in the sport that I enjoy. What they do in their spare time I really couldn't care less, if it doesn't affect footy or sponsorships go for your life gents!

That's a disgraceful attitude. Who do you think has suffered more? Watson or the family of Mainwairing?

What does Mainwarings death have to do with football?

Try to keep up.
People get all indignant about the possible use of ped's, yet blindly accept and encourage
Drug use which has a far greater cost.

Howe bags the AFL because Essendon, Travis Tuck and Ben Cousins used drugs.

Yet he is a fan of an industry which allows greats like Jim Morrison, Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston to die from drug overdoses. What a hypocrite!

Mac was picked up in the PSD, hardly a star recruit who should have needed eyes all over him.

It was a freak, tragic accident. It happens and it was awful.

I think you might be missing the point of the indignation- PEDs damage the fairness and interigty of the sport, something that true fans hold see as the vital aspect of competition.

Outside of competition, I don't care if retired players jab themselves with whatever they want. Recreational drug use that doesn't affect the fairness of the sport I equally couldn't care less about.

But if everyone in the competition used the PEDs, then it stops being unfair, as it gives everyone the same advantage.

The HS see the AFL as left wing and they are of course on the other side so they will always have a go. Alan Howe is just one of the many Murdoch opinion 'journalists' who pander to the worst in us and don't need to care about logic or facts as they will get away with it.

So, you are more concerned about sport than people dying from poisoning themselves, crime, destruction of families....?

They are completely different things, and the difference is the reason why people use them. You should try smoking a joint occasionally, it might calm you down and help you off your high horse.

Personally yes. Recreational drugs aren't the only reason for the breakdown of families and crime, alcohol causes far more problems than drugs. I'd much rather be around a group of people on eccies than people pissed off their head, eccy users are happy as larry generally speaking (except for those muzzas who are probably on ice, you stay away from them).

Alan Howe is a revered music writer and well known within the music industry. Of course, we all know no-one in the music industry has ever tried drugs, or died prematurely, or been involved in any sort of controversy whatsoever. So many glass houses, Alan, and so many stones. To quote: "The cant, the hypocrisy, the pomposity, the outsized egos". Yep, Alan, that about describes you.

? Revered by who ? Are you sure you have the right bloke ? This guy has been a Murdoch bum boy for decades

Strange, vindictive man is Alan Howe. I remember a column of his a while back in which he completely ripped the Rolling Stones, shit canning their music, their reputation and their right to continue on as a recording and live act. If he truly dislikes the band, that's fine but this was a completely unprovoked attack. It wasent in response to any new album/ tour announcement or public discussion about the band. It was as if he woke up one day and thought " I hate the Stones and I" m going to fill in a column crapping on everything they have ever done" I thought at the time that Howe must be a sad little man to have such bitterness about a Rock band that he he had to resort to this kind of shoddy vindictiveness. Sounds like he is still at it.

Why would he have a chip on his shoulder?
Whilst most people enjoy both to varying degrees I've met my share of people who love sports and don't understand the entertainment value of music and vice versa. Considering live sport gets government funding for teams and facilities whilst live music gets nothing and the live music scene is battling in some ways you can understand why music lovers are happy to tear in to sport.

Really though I think it's just a cheap and easy article to write when you've got nothing interesting to say.

Good post. I've never understood people who are so vitriolic in their hate towards either the arts or sports. Both are ultimately entertainment options. The AFL as far as I can see pays it's way more than many other sports. Live music is a tricky one. I'd love to see the Government do more to support live music, particularly in terms of heritage listing of venues etc. I've played live music in Melbourne for over 20 years and it's not a patch on what it once was although it's still great. I'd love for live music to be subsided but at the same time, if only 10 people turn up to watch me play, does the pub or a taxpayer really have to cover the costs for the fact, no-one really wants to hear my music?
