Draft analysis to undertake which is probably already well behind schedule

If Clarko isn’t in now and we do miss him, how do these when we would likely need another 6 weeks to find a new coach as no plan b is in place.

We need to be ready to go day 1 of preseason to get this train wreck back on track.

IF he has committed to us I would hope he still goes and talks to *. This is a different situation to normal coaching appointments. Normally you have a bunch of guys selling themselves to the club. Here we have a bunch of clubs selling themselves to the coach. Clarko can go into * meeting and find out which players are leaving, which are staying, and what there trade/draft strategies are. All good intel for when he starts with us,

I think we are still definitely front runners and for multiple reasons.

It was realistic and probable until about 5:30 Sunday evening.

As soon as a big club entered the market it was over.

It’s not Sonja’s or the clubs fault. We are what we are. The smallest club in Melbourne. That 65% of the afl world want to cease to exist. I don’t see why that’s the case but unfortunately it is.

They say insanity is doing the same thing again and again expecting a different result. Maybe that’s why we have been such good innovators over a long period of time. Necessity.

But if you haven’t learned your lesson from Brian cook, dusty, Kelly (twice), gaff and now clarko, you’re not living in reality. Anytime a big club wants something north want, they will get it.

The sad part is that given all decades of cheating, inability to even win one final, players walking out, sacking coaches just appointed etc, clarko will pick * and would have had more success at North imo.

But us believing that doesn’t make it happen unfortunately.

Mate, not trying to be annoying, as I understand you've already told us what you know, but logically if we take Henderson/Essendon conversation about them having interest in their job as fact, it would seem we are done here, and all previous assurances/verbal agreements or whatever you want to call it would be null and void. I was always of the opinion that a) given Clarko's wishlist Essendon is simply not a good fit, and b) Sonja does have the ability to close this deal but if what Robbo is saying is true, it would seem I was wrong.

What is your take on this?

Given what Whateley has just released and he is a campaigner then my info is lining up - he has not told North no so logically he will confirm his verbal yes by signing in the next 48 hours. Now that doesn’t mean it’s announced straight away. But the meeting with Patch and Zeibs has allegedly been scheduled and the so called soft date is out there. It’s too much of a coincidence that the GWS stuff is out today. As for Essendon - as I have said Clarko is a very strict person in what he wants - I don’t think he’s going to be doing due diligence on their shit show when he’s just done it on us and has a 5 year deal in front of him.
In all honesty the GWS announcement sort of backs up all the ITK info - it’s very close now.

And what's the alternative, anyway? He's a four-time premiership coach, you don't ask him to send in a CV.

Based on news of GWS pulling out, if Essendon hadn't played like a bag of shit on Sunday, we'd be announcing Clarko around about now.

Where has all of this soft deadline of Wednesday come from?
Where has the 5 year deal come from?

We have done all the convincing we can and need to know if we need to look elsewhere, if he says no we are in a world of hurt

Reddit seems to think Clarko met with JHF's parents sometime in the last week, which would easily be the weirdest thing in this thread so far

Update on this - they reckon it happened over the weekend when Clarko was in Adelaide. Despite there being photos of Clarko at the Brighton/Caufield game. Bless their cotton socks

I've been sceptical of old mate, but you're making some petty big leaps there, EH.

He's entitled to hear Essendon out, it doesn't mean he has no interest in us anymore. It's equally possible that a few phone calls/discussions with them might be enough to rule them out or to make him comfortable with choosing us. Particularly if those discussions highlight how much of a rabble they are in comparison to us, where the process appears to have been very smooth.

And as we have learned so many times, people can verbally agree and then renege. It happens. It sucks, but it happens.

Of course, he's entitled to hear them out. But if we go by the time he's taken with us and GWS, this will be a long process taking weeks which in our situation given we've got player contracts issues, no coaching short list etc is unacceptable.
