If you're looking at the game from the aspect of quality, it's not a terribly high standard.

I think of it differently though, I also support my local team and love to watch any of the games with the kids whether that be the seniors, U19s, even the 4ths in the seniors (yeah, they have 4 senior teams).

It's not about the quality of the game, but supporting my local team and I see our AFLW team in a similar vein.

If you devote even ten seconds to someone who still points out that the women's game isn't as high a standard as the men's then you have wasted ten seconds of your life. Just let them go my friend.

I don’t want to speak for the good lord, but I’m pretty sure the Jesus was joking everyone.

This!!

Even if he wasn't, I can understand where he is coming from. I follow heaps of sporting teams around the world, all the men's teams. I just don't find the women's equivalent as exciting and I tune out pretty quick

I think anyone who can sit through an AFLW game should be celebrated

I actually tried with all my might to watch the Geelong/Roos game the other night. I got a couple of daughters so I’m trying to get into it on the off chance they want to play, but god it’s a hard watch. I can get why they rushed getting as many of the AFL teams as they could, to align fans with their AFL teams on the hopes fans would automatically transition their support across, but the talent level between the better players and the not so good players, is off the charts. Hopefully in 10 or so years

Best thing to do is chuck a few womens games in your weekend multi. That will drive your interest.

Apparently some people like watching golf. I don’t, but I don’t need to let everyone know.

Ooph, that is a backhanded compliment which supports the messiah's point of view.

It is like saying I go to watch midget comedians not because their material is funny but I just like to laugh at how they look.

I don't think there is anything wrong with not liking something or saying you don't like it or why in a discussion forum. I agree golf is boring to watch, i loved playing cricket growing up but that puts me to sleep to watch as well. It is the slow aspect of those sports, I don't have an issue with watching women's football.

Women's football doesn't have the elite skills of the men's competition, arguably it is worse than TAC Cup, but I understand in part it is an evolutionary process, we have spent a long time creating the male pathway into AFL, it took a long time to improve the standard of the VFA and VFL, it will take generational change.

I think the current spectacle is being hamstrung by the ease of implementing defensive structures and strategies we have developed in the men's competition and put it into the female system where the ability to move the ball that distance and hit up targets in range is more challenging, women don't have the field kicking distance to kick over zones or presses and it will take time to overcome those hurdles.

The coaches of AFLW are putting individual results and success above the health of the game, it is probably fair enough too, but they would increase the visual spectacle of the game if they would limit defensive strategies and showcase the game, ie in the TAC Cup they don't tag, don't play zones or other defensive strategies so it looks better than it would otherwise.

But what if all you ever heard was that everyone loves golf.

Would you not want to hear from people who shared your view?

I would say the vast majority have no interest in hearing a different view, it is why most people on Big Footy stick to their own class forums.

Some thoughts:

Will there be more goals kicked in the Maltidas v Sweden game or the North V Tigs game?

But the real question is, does it fricken matter? I just want want both to be good games.

Womens tennis is no where near as skilled as the mens but its better to watch.

Womens cricket has come on in leaps and bounds. Some of the fielding/catching is top class.

When you spend you weekends watching you daughter play Womens amateur footy its bloody awesome to have a footy date with your daughter to watch the big league.

Anyway, has Clarko defended himself yet?

You've just told us
I knew that was coming! I don’t say it often every time someone else shows interest, though.

I love watching women‘s football, and not in a condescending way. Like women‘s tennis, I prefer the pace and scale of the games. It’s way beyond me but still recognisable and accessible to me. A friend who went for the first time to the Arden St game two weeks ago said it is much better to watch live than on TV, and that is absolutely true. On TV you get a better view of what doesn’t work, but in real life you see and hear and feel the players‘ strengths, skill and speed. Plus being at the games as part of the crowd is a delight, it’s festive and positive and fun.

Anyway, we are way off track. Needed a response even as a joke if anyone diminishes what a group of great North Melbourne people are busting their arses to achieve for our club, especially this week.

Personally, I just can't watch women's football - it's just a crap product at this point in time. But if it's North playing, and it's a final, I could see myself giving it a go, but may not last 4 quarters. But I have no hidden agenda against women's sports and would happily watch women's basketball, especially if Australia is playing, and can watch the Matildas as well, although it's definitely an inferior product compared to men's soccer at this stage.

But I rarely post this. Good luck to the girls on the weekend.

'A crap product' is categorically bullshit
