Caro’s top footy issue to resolve in 2023

A resolution on the Hawks’ racism saga

“Well not with huge hope, but I do hope those families who felt so mistreated and in some cases worse at the Hawthorn Football Club get some resolution to the heartbreak they’ve gone through,” Wilson began on her Don’t Shoot The Messengerpodcast.

“I hope that the men that have been implicated in their allegations, I hope they too (receive some closure). I don’t think there will be winners in this but I hope some good comes out of it.

“I hope there’s a resolution because either way, reputations have been badly damaged here and there will be legal action if the allegations aren’t proven.”

Seems a different take than soon after the story broke when she said she couldn’t see clarko coaching again

Do you think she means Rusty firing from the hip because he jumped the gun with his editorial?

I wouldn’t be surprised if both Jackson/ABC and Hawthorn aren’t in the gun for any legal action launched by Clarkson.

Jackson for the absolute shambles of an article and Hawthorn for losing control of the report which led to the allegations being made public.

Have we heard/confirmed anything substantial about this recently? How can a extreme case or circumstance such as this fade out so quickly?

It's almost like clockwork that this whole thing has been silent for almost 2 months now. (Essentially since Clarko started coaching)

Swept under the rug 100%.

Hope it goes to mediation and Clarko / Fagan walk away with $10.5 mill.each and Rusty spends the rest of his life in restitution and penniless.

He will have insurance against litigation damages... unless it was deemed to be intentional/malicious, then he would be screwed as insurance doesn't cover that.

Cant see the people the accusations were levelled against sweeping it under the rug, otherwise the Spector of the claims will stick to them. Clarkson in particular doesn’t strike me as the type to let it slide.

I don't give a wet fart about anything Wilson says so I'm not going to comment on what she said.

But - the gall of Wilson - the queen of the football gossip columnists - calling her podcast "Don't Shoot the Messenger" is something else. If you don't want to be shot, stick to just passing on messages and stop putting your two cents in, dagnammit.

She’s a gutter parasite. Zero redeeming qualities. If she’s a chief football writer I’m the president of the world. Writes opinionated drivel without any accountability. And needs to be put out to pasture. Put clown Caro back up the top of every page pls.

How? Because it’s a giant load of shite. Criminal the way these blokes were hung out to dry.

Some of his tweeting since won't help him there, but I reckon an apology and retraction will do it.

To a certain extent, you can never rid yourself of the stigma once you have been accused, how many people feel Pell is innocent of what he was accused of regardless that the high court threw out the verdict?

If the full weight of the legal system is used to crush those that have accused Clarkson and Fagan then it will be seen as the rich white system used to oppress first nation voices raised to highlight oppression... I think how the evidence evolved and how conclusions are derived are as important as the conclusions themselves.

For the sake of simplicity, assuming both Clarkson and Fagan are completely innocent of all the allegations, we have to unpack how we got to the point that people genuinely believe the accusations. We need to work out how it is we got to this point, because something went down at Hawthorn, we need to resolve how it is we got to where we are now.

My gut feel is that some of the players have been less than honest with their partners and it has been easier for them and their communities to accept that people at Hawthorn were responsible for what were choices made by individuals. I think the most vocal that have been WAGs would probably pass lie detectors but IF Clarkson and Fagan are innocent of the accusations I think some of the players themselves must have made life decisions that they have struggled to live with and felt it was a lot easier to deal with if they blamed the club and it's figureheads.

I don't think there is a grand conspiracy against Clarkson and Fagan so there must be a relatively simple answer, if that is the case that they are innocent of those accusations.

Hope so - not everyone is so sure of that. I just don't see how you come up with a resolution that satisfies all parties.

I was about to write almost exactly the same thing. She repeats gossip and editorialises in a completely hypocritical manner in addition to being a mouthpiece for HQ in order to deliver the unsavoury messages that they don't have the guts to openly and honestly discuss.

What are you hearing? That an apology and retraction won't be enough? Or that they'll be found guilty?

That there won't be a resolution that says he didn't say what was alleged. That might not be enough for him to move forward. If he says 'I said it but that's not exactly what I meant' then I don't see that being a way forward. He won't ( and shouldn't) apologise just to clear the air if he doesn't agree. If you apologise it says you said what is alleged. If he isn't cleared then I'm not sure how you move on. Agree to disagree might not be enough. I just suspect that this time next year this may still be in court as Clarko tries to clear his name without conditions.

I imagine it would be hard for him to accept, but maybe it’s best to accept a he said/he said finding if that is what comes from this investigation.

How is going to court going to shed more light on the situation.

As far as I can tell, the abortion allegation isn’t even being tested in this investigation.

I don't know but I think the investigation will be looking for a compromise. But if that means he has to apologise I just don't think he would accept that as it implies a degree of culpability. Going to court requires evidence to be delivered under oath, cross examination and a final decision. Lot different to the terms of the AFL investigation.

I fully get what you’re saying.

And agree that Clarkson doesn’t seem to one for compromise.

But I hope he sees that taking this further puts his future plans at north in danger of distraction. It should be simple and probably perfectly reasonable to apologise for mistakes made whilst at the same time publicly denying demanding an abortion.

Would want to be one hell of a grovelling apology I think.

Not sure he will he seems to be very bloody minded about the issue.
