Still is a thing. Not sure how the beer prices compare though.
I remember the old biddies at the bowl club would bring round nibble platters on the house and they would sell homemade cupcakes & pasties & sausage rolls that were pretty good. Ahh the good old days.
Alberton is looking pretty smick now, the franchise up the road must be turning a bit green.
I wonder if a gather round game could on the cards?

Thread bump and a brief look at the facade of the high performance centre building, largely complete and with screen attached. Still major works to be completed inside it and for the outdoor training/soccer field. Hope they move the TV camera to the other side, makes for a much prettier picture

Unfortunately not likely as that would entail having the camera face the afternoon sun which is never a good thing. That's why most grounds have the main cameras placed on the western wing.

My memory of the bowling club was going there about 10 or 12 years ago to catch up with a mate who for some reason wanted to watch the Maggies v bays game from that location, and they had fruit tingle seat cushions for sale on a shelf behind the bar!

He is a glenelg supporter, and it was a what the f*** moment for him too!

So when is this all to be completed
Was supposed to be completed October, but when they discovered toxic soil under the outer concrete terraces, they had to go and dig up a part of the area under the new soccer pitch, bury it, then cement it over then put a couple of metres of dirt on top for the pitch.

They said that had delayed things by 6 to 8 weeks. If they are on still on track then should be done by Christmas.

The current stage of the Alberton Oval re-development is due to be complete and fully operational for our football program from the second week of January. We look forward to opening the facility to members for the first time at Family Day on Saturday 10th February 2024.

November Update- MG High Performance Centre
  • videos published are always previous months work
  • Performance centre painted in Black & White colours on the outside (White bars)
  • complete in the 2nd week of January 2024

Last Friday I went to Alberton and walked around and took some photos to see how close to finishing off the redevelopment on the outside.

Still a bit of work to do to have it all completed and ready for the family day on 10th February.

Main entrance has been open for a few weeks but looks like asphalt will be replaced with paving.

The wall is 6m from the footpath. It was something the Seventh Ave residents had a whinge about.

Soccer pitch turf should be ready in a couple of weeks to play on.

About half the old croquet court area is a roadway now.

which leads to parking behind the southern goal and goes all the way to the Bowling Club boundary. Haha will have a touch of the Noarlunga about it and a few cars will be able to watch the Maggies and the W team and toot the horn after a goal.

Trees will be planted between the soccer pitch fence ( still to go up) and the foot path
