You aren't saying anything that isn't obvious. The idea that anyone is throwing millions in sign on fees, full contracts or endorsement deals to any random basketball player with a bit of height and some skills who didn't make the NBA though is BS.
No you are the one spewing BS as per usual.
I said provided he was a good basketballer.
It may be a little too hard to understand for you.

As per usual? Who are you?

I get it dude, you wanna throw out your "facts" and have no one question it. He has to be a lot better than a "good" basketball player to get anywhere. But you literally have no evidence to back up anything you are saying other than "My info comes from knowledge". Deep. Carry on.

You are not able to carry a conversation as you do not read what one has posted properly before spewing utter garbage.

Thanks I will. Big yawn.

Not sure about his prospects for AFL, he’s probably going to get to 7’6 or 7’7, I think that might be too tall, at that height mobility wil be a major issue IMO, NBA players of that size more often than not have short careers but good luck to the kid if he has a crack down the road.

Has anyone mentioned anything about draft tampering? How can we lock up someone so early while he is still in the 'draft' window (not the Cat B window), and have him say that he will choose Collingwood once he has had the sufficient 3 years out of the sport (assuming he doesn't make the NBA)? It feels like there would at least be a question of draft tampering / stashing that is worth being asked.

It s a bit sneaky given last year was his draft year, and we've gotten a comittment from him if he comes back to AFL in a couple years where we can just list him without fuss.

I see your point, but as far as I know he has never nominated for any draft he has been eligible for. Hard to be tampering on that basis.

Exactly.

I'm sure all above board, but just feels a bit questionable.

It would be like us finding a gun indigenous player, putting him up in our academy zone, and telling him not to play anything other than badminton at school the next 2 years.

Yup, very true. He considered nominating last year but the club in question would have to wait out his basketball potential, and I imagine you'd feel guility in doing that.

Agree but don't compare him with first round draft picks.

Compare him to Mason as he will cost the same if he gets picked up as a Cat B.

Say 2014 Cox vs 2024 Condon:
Age:
24yo vs 20yo
Weight: 110kg (243 lb) vs 104kg (230 lb) Todd Golden comments on Alex Condon signing with Florida Gators
Height: 211cm vs 211cm (Basketball measures with shoes on so this may be a cm or two out)
Aussie Rules History: None vs highly rated U17 player
First Game: Coxy took 2 years (2016)

I would take a 20yo Coxy with football history on our list for nothing but Cat B payment.
Oh, I mean of course, he’s a free hit (if he comes back to Australia) and he should be treated as such. Just hosing down the hype that he was projected as top 5, given Lemmey was projected even higher at that point.

He could go to Japan and make 10 x that of an AFL player.
Just saying I'm not getting my hopes up of getting him to us.

Sure, it would be great.
Yeah, no he couldn’t. Do some research before you make claims like that.

You would, but also as others have pointed out, by waiting out his three years, and signing with a team as a category B rookie, he can choose his club rather than being at the mercy of the draft process.

Yeah 100% Its definitely the smart way to getting to the club you want.

In Europe. OK forget Japan perhaps I was wrong as i often am thinking soccer.

On average, players from abroad can earn between $1 and $4 million a year. Remember that these figures only apply when playing in a top professional basketball division.

This is US dollars. Not including the $ from other endorsements.
AFL players make SFA from endorsements.
These players are mostly not good enough for NBA.

You are either drawn in for the love of the game or the love of money.
Up to Alex. If he doesn't go down the NBA pathway will he join us?
Or will he get the big bucks playing basketball somewhere else.
A couple of years overseas is a long time.
Obviously I'd love to have him playing for us as a cat B

Once he's in the USA the offers will come in thick and fast from competitions all over the world.
Provided he's a good basketballer.
The offers will be hard to resist.
Money talks

It's not easy to be good enough for the NBA. You are really misjudging that.

Yeah 100% Its definitely the smart way to getting to the club you want.

Condon basically gets a free ride and education, the opportunity at the NBA + the big dollars if he's good enough, or an amazing fall back option with AFL + still good coin at his club of choice. The kid thought it through.

Don't need to do more research. Especially the Google variety.

Good on you for going out and doing some research “of the google variety.”

No I'm saying if he is not good enough for the NBA.
Provided he's a good basketball player offers will still come in from teams around the world.
Up to him which path he chooses after this.

It's obvious sports people around the world earn more then your average AFL player.
A local sport can never compete against a world sport.
