Those stats are meaningless. How about the rest of the minutes in the selected games, and how about all games.

And surprise, surprise, you failed to include Round 9 VS Essendon, when he conceded 3 goals.

Yeah coz I wrote the article

From that squad I think the final team will be:

B: Johnson, Taylor, Enright
HB: Mcveigh, Thompson, Mitchell
C: Pendlebury, Selwood, Jack
HF: Wingard, Cloke, Fyfe
FF: Thomas, Roughead, Riewoldt
R: Minson, Ablett, Griffen
I/C: Swan, Dangerfield, Boak, Motlop

Unlucky: Hannebery, Kennedy (both tapered off too much toward the end of year), Walters (injury marred a terrific start) and Watson (who do you drop to accommodate him?)

Mmm, already feel like there's too many mids crammed in at the expense of guys who actually play Half Back or Half Forward, which Mitchell largely has done this season. Would only drop him for someone like Malceski, who arguably has been just as effective down back.

Was making a joke 2012 Brownlow reference. Out of your side if Watson were to make it I would probably push Motlop from the bench. Good side though.

Whoosh, right over my head mate.

Yeah, I think Watson is a bit stiff to miss out and may make it at the expense of someone like Motlop, just prefer the team balance of having another goal kicking forward. It took all my powers to leave out my boy Walters, he's close but just not quite there.

Chaplin has been a canny acquisition.

Has been able to take the taller, more powerful players which has helped Rance's performance.

I rate Chaplin's season a touch better than Rance's season.
It has certainly helped Rance having another quality bigger bodied defender down there, but Rance has still taken the most dangerous forward each week (Franklin, Cameron, Kennedy, Riewoldt) and has beaten pretty much all of them, except for when Cloke towelled him up. The fact that he gains so many intercept possessions and provided so much rebound as well while doing this job has been the most impressive aspect of his year.

Hodge ? I can understand that noone likes to see taggers get a gig...but they usually at least take the absolute cream of the crop as opponents every week. I'm not really sure how a guy gets in that has hardly even had an opponent all season, plays the easiest role on the field, and didnt even have more than a "good" season in that role. Not even the Hawthorn fans predicted he could even make the squad o_O Ahhh well...Mackie/JPK/Hodge just a few borderlines that may have been swept up in a quota net this yr.

No opponent? Mate did you watch your last Hawthorn game 5 years ago?

Hodge has an opponent every game, all game. Firstly Clarko doesn't play spare man in defence, hasn't for years. Second not even Neeld is stupid enough to leave hodge unmanned in defence. That tactic was obsolete years ago.

I would go Roughead, Cloke and N.Riewoldt.

It's helps the team have a tall mobile target who can get the ball outside 50, but at the same time leave space for the other forwards.

Forgot Cloke, probably Cloke ahead of Cameron.
Either way, theres no way either of Buddy or J. Riewoldt could make the team on 2013 form.

Hodge does tend to go head to head though from what I've seen this year.

Riewoldt had 20 touches, 11 marks and kicked 4. I think there have been a few games which have hurt Rance's chance which probably isn't fair. This year he probably showed he could be a reliable defender throughout the year so I would say he'd be watched more closely next year.

Fair call, I was mainly thinking about the 2nd time we played where Riewoldt was very ineffective (despite still gathering a bit of the ball). But yeah Rance had a few games early in the season where he struggled but has been great since. Fair enough if those games are counting against him but I still think he deserved a sport in the squad.

Lets be honest, the AA selection is more confusing than the MRP. I know I'm Freo but Crowley beat EVERY midfielder named in the squad, except Hannebury. Credit were its due, he might not get a final 22 spot but deserves to be in this squad.

Crowley's job is made a lot easier given Freo run with so many players around the ball and space is scarce. That is not to say he hasn't been good at his role but they do not usually select taggers unless they offer something special, Ling only got recognition once, in 2007, and in that year he also kicked 28 goals while tagging. He not only beat the mids he was on, he made them bleed with scoreboard pressure.

I think you should do more than just pig root your opponent every time they get close to the ball to get recognition.
