All-Australian Team 2014....

Can't say I notice Riewoldt that much this season but then again the Saints were so god damn awful to watch I stopped paying attention to them.

Only saw bits and pieces of the Saints in the latter half of the year. That said averaging 2 and a bit goals a game, even against good sides is a better return than averaging 8 against poor sides and nothing against good sides. I want Kennedy to get a jumper but this wasn't the year. I rate him so highly, was actually disappointing that he didn't produce against good sides, howver the mids can take some blame.

Ballantyne? Are you f****** serious?

No Ezy, no Pridda. Even Walters and Wingard deserved a spot I reckon

Absolute disgrace. Worst.AA.Ever

Walters played 6 games.

Fivey have you banned any RFC window lickers on this thread?
Was just banned for asking why they are so catty when Rance got the nod?
Why are they so super sensitive over there?
Hopefully you guys are not as harsh?

I think the one blowhard got a day off.

Don't think Ballantyne deserved to get in, but how many other forward pockets were there playing well this year?

I would like to see the comparison between I50's against us, compared to the other teams in the league. McKenzie has to face a shitload of ball coming in.

We actually gave our opponents less inside 50s than anyone else! I'm genuinely surprised by that.

Apparently because i asked for an explaination i am showing total disrespect for there board.
They are a bunch of campaigners of the highest order.
Just waiting for my ban now for asking for an explanation on it, i'm sure that will be seen as insulent to their crappy tiger cause.

I've always found the mods on that board to be fine, nice people. Like any board they have ****wit supporters though.

Riewoldt was very good in a horrible side. Constantly leading up and down the ground often for no reason as either the ball would never come or would constantly sail over his head or at his bootlaces, took a heap of marks, his work ethic is truly commendable. Would get frustrated but then just get on with it. The only argument would be I suppose if Riewoldt didnt make it you could put Franklin CHF and Tom Hawkins FF.

Rance got in based on his finish to the season in Sydney and a couple of efforts in weeks before that. The "noise"in Melbourne late in the season drowns out the regular excellence all the way over in Perth - unfortunate but true.

I would say the hype (in the short-term) was justified as Rance's second half of the season could be argued to be the best of any KPD this year, however he missed several games early in the season and took an extra couple of games to get going.

His selection, along with Gary Ablett named in the starting midfield, suggest this year's AA panel were forgiving if a player put in 16-17 AA standard performances and was injured for the rest of the season.

Considering Rance, like MacKenzie, had a very good 2013, I believe the consistency over two years helped to rationalise him missing those games.

I think statistically Rance's intercept marking was the best in the AFL of the KPDs, and his contested marking gave him several 'big moments' that stuck in the minds of selectors IMO. I only saw about 6 of your games this year, but would it be fair to say MacKenzie was more of a go-about-your-business type of defender that rarely made a mistake and rarely took a definitive match-winning mark?

Yeah there great
Other boards' mods are entitled to mod their boards however they like.

Thats fine but are there any rights at all for the common poster?
The mod has actually edited my post to say 'i'm silly' which is pretty laughable in itself.
If i was trolling i am happy to wear it but im not, it sort of sucks that you have to wear whatever mood the mod is in on that day.
I wont derail the thread with any more unrelated posts ok, please dont ban me for this now.
The funny part was that the poster i was talking too responded normally, pity the irrational mod wasn't the same.

You can complain to Chief. He loves dealing with that sort of thing.

Emac needs to learn how to hold onto the key forwards better if he is to be recognised as an AA defender.
Beating your opponent on your own merits or consistantly setting up forward thrusts doesn't cut it these days.
He needs to do more one on one training with Darling and Kennedy with them showing him how elite defenders hold onto forwards, grab their arms, wrap themselves around forwards like an octopus, scrag them to the ground all in such a way that it is invisible to the umpire 5m away with a clear view.
Also he needs to run free of the defenders and get half a dozen easy disposal up in the safety of the wing where turnovers don't hurt as much because someone else will be picking up his slack in the defensive 50 area where he isn't always needed.

Yep:rolleyes:

It was a tough choice in all honesty but personally as a one on one defender on KPP forwards he would be my choice.

I wonder if the game against the Hawks ultimately cost Emac a spot... Probably the only game that he was comprehensively beaten.

On another matter, Lloyd with 77 and Richo with 67 making it in 2001 over Cummings who kicked 88, was also a pretty ordinary decision. I remember it being a pretty surprising omission.

B Team Anybody?

B T Lonergan E Mackenzie S Burgoyne
HB B Ellis H Taylor B Gibbs
C D Beams M Priddis L Parker
HF B Harvey J Shultz D Martin
F J Gunston T Hawkins E Betts
R S Jacobs P Dangerfield T Cotchin
Int Liberatore C Ward S Johnson D Mundy
There isn't a slight chance in hell Cotchin makes the side.
He's basically Priddis with speed and less of an ability to find the foot

It was a good year for KPD's, a lot of competition for the AA spots, though it's fair to say they get a bit of help in the way the game is played these days. The Coleman medal winner only kicked about 70 goals. It's certainly a change from the days when Lockett/Dunstall/Ablett snr would regularly pump out 100 goal seasons.

Might not be the thread to ask in....but how do you reckon Plugger from 1991 goes these days?

127 goals in 17 games or something

7.4 a game. Not bad.....

I have never really cared much for the All-Australian selection. The panel is made up past players if Im not mistaken? and ok sure they probably have a really good understanding of the game but at the end of the day they make their decisions based on watching football games and figuring out who plays the best. We can all pretty much do this simply by watching games too. At least with brownlow and MVP awards votes are cast by people actually involved on the ground level.
