Mitchell has 3 AA's, great effort. Selwood has 3 as captain alone, and 5 total. Enright has 6 total. I'm taking Ablett, Selwood and Enright over Mitchell anyway so it seems OK to me.

Not sure why Selwood would be captain.

What's his finals record as captain again, 1-5?

I judge leaders on their ability to lift not only themselves when the moment is needed, but those around them. Joel fails at this time and time again as his record proves.

Now if it was the All Australian sooking and ducking team, the captaincy would be warranted.

Mitch has 3 AA's. Should at least have 4 though. How he missed in 2012 is still one of the strangest decisions I've seen

Sent from my SM-G900I using Tapatalk
quite agree. Not that I like him, but an outstanding player.

AA chosen by a "panel of experts" and they still manage to completely **** it up. I came up with this in 2 minutes and it is guaranteed to keep everyone happy*

B: Rampe, Rance, McGovern
HB: Shaw, Tarrant, Simpson
C: Hannebery, Kennedy, Sloane
HF: Martin, Franklin, Bontempelli
F: Betts, Kennedy, Lynch
Foll: Gawn, Dangerfield, Selwood
I/C: Neale, Parker, Pendlebury, Boyd

Talia stiff, but Tarrant will romp home the B&F and is doing it on his own in a side that made the top 8.
No Hawks no knock, just a champion team with good spread.

*biased fans of players I removed the exception ;)

How much wood would Selwood Sell if Selwood could sell wood?

A. More than Pendlebury and Neale
Doesn't matter, apparently people would only be buying it off him based on reputation anyway :$

I wasnt the one that mentioned midfielders, you fool

1. I didn't realize there were set rules on who had to mention something before it was discussed.

2. You were the one who.compared a midfielder to his contemporaries. I merely did the same among forwards and as another poster rightly pointed out, on a per capita basis the comparison stood up.

We can discuss rance conceding far more goals than Harry Taylor next if you want.

It's the classic Geelong wank fest in the AA.

Dangerfield was an obvious lock. Enright sure.

Selwood in the starting 18 is very puzzling. Better season than last year but not sure he is in the 22 for me let alone captain. Would have given that honour to Sloane.

You realise his captaincy record is completely irrelevant and only simpletons like Hawkk take it seriously. He took over a side on the way out and just like inexperienced sides lose finals sides with too much experience also do to. Fact is most sides who've had their window fall away and don't play finals. It's a testament to the list management team that we did not fall away.

Let's see what Lewis or Shiels captaincy record in finals is like in a couple of years when Hawthorn start to wane and become more inconsistent.

On what basis would you have chosen Sloane as Captain over Selwood?

He displayed a far higher quantity of leadership despite not having the (C) next to his name at selection.

Why wasn't Josh Kennedy named captain of the all Australian side ?

I'm sorry if we want to change the perception that all the ass kissing awards are midfielder awards then. Aye we could name some key position players as captains

Fffs Joel Selwood is a great player but he's no better leader than Josh. Kennedy or buddy Franklin

Buddy overcome personal problems last year to come second in the Coleman ......why wasn't named captain

Let's start acknowledging other players besides mids and we may then see cultural change in the Brownlow also

Playing full forward is darn sight harder than playing midfield. It's interesting that mids get the awards but who gets paid the big bucks .....forwards and even defenders

Classic Geelong supporters.

'Let's talk about hypotheticals in the future that may or may not happen instead of facts'

Fact: Selwood's finals record 1 Win, 5 Losses, 100% sooks

Cool. It's all irrelevant and not reflective of his leadership capabilities as shown by 3 AA captaincy gongs.

Just once you may not be a pain to converse with...

Quite possibly the stupidest post in this thread, what does the AA team and finals have in common? Nothing, your a fool.

Is there anyone more qualified to be named '2016 AA Captain' than Joel Selwood?
Well ...no there wasn't. Not something to brag about though is it.

In 2014 they had a choice between 5, in 2015 a choice of 2
When there's a choice of just 1 this year, do you think it might be chosen by default ?

Their policy of club captains being the only candidates for AA captaincy did leave them just a tad short of options this year didn't it.

The best leader in the team is buddy

Came back from a mental breakdown last year to lead his team to the top of the table and had a great goal kicking year

He also didn't look as angry this year and was enjoying his footy

He was by far the best leader in the all Australian team by his actions and performance not reputation

Rant over

and Lonergan came back from losing a kidney, and dam near losing his life. Doesn't make him captain material though.
