Enright will most likely finish 2nd in the Carji behind Brownlow Medalist Dangerfield in a team that finished equal top of the ladder. His spot in the AA team was clear as day.

So it seems the melts continued well into the night. Great effort BigFooty. :thumbsu:

So Selwood and Enright should miss while Cripps, Simpson and Docherty make the side right? So the team who finished equal 1st only manages to get one player into the side while the team who finished 14th should have three players? There's a reason why your teams are finishing in the bottom half of the ladder, work it out.
Nope. Cripps shouldn't make it. One of Simpson or Docherty should have.
I am not going to say who should go out, as I haven't seen other teams play like I have Carlton, however both players had amazing years. Both of them, their "worst" games are above average and a vast majority of their games were extremely good. I don't think they could have played their role any better. For that reason, I believe one of them should have made it.

Now if every single player in the AA side failed to play any average/poor games, then every single player deserve their spot in the squad (I know Joel and Enright played average games against Carlton, particularly Joel).

My biggest peeve is I think the system is flawed as a coin toss will favour the player with support on the selection panel

Hint: Your players aren't as good as what you think they are.

Another who thinks that a poor team can't have great players. Is there not an argument that says that good players have to work harder in poorer teams because they don't have the support around them?

How many Brisbane Lions players played in a wooden spoon side before winning a flag? How many Hawks players were in their ordinary 2004 and 2005 sides and went on to be premiership players? How many Eagles players did the reverse?

Ignorant to tie a players ability or award credentials in with the rest of their team's fortunes.

If Enright wore an Adelaide jumper or something absolutely no way he gets in the team.
I wonder what'd happen if Betts, Sloane, Talia, Shaw, Greene, Rampe, Hannerbery, Parker, Both Josh Kennedy's, McGovern, Tom Lynch (GC), or Buddy wore interstate team jumpers?

Absolutely no way they'd get in the team. Impossible that 13 of the 22 could be from interstate. Damn Victorian bias!

he gets judged on his previous output not compared to others.

pendlebury 28 possessions at DE 79%.

selwood 28 possesions at DE 70%.
good stat..

Selwood had 8 games where he got 24 or less possessions.

so for 30+% of the season he has average to below average.

Yet Selwood has more clearances, contested marks, contested possesions, I50's, goal assists.. You know, the stuff that wins you games.

Oh yeah Selwood is also the 2016 AA Captain

I think in the case of a key forward or back being in a poor team makes it much harder. The ball is either perpetually being kicked to the.forwards you're marking, or perpetually not coming near you with anywhere near the sort of frequency you need if you're a forward.

Midfielders are going to be able to rack up touches and clearances etc no matter what.

I think the real injustice here is how Harry Taylor was snubbed in preference of Talia. Interstate bias at its finest here. I'm all for expanding the game and encouraging players from lesser-known teams interstate, but for an award like All-Australian you just have to pick the best players, regardless of which team they play for. Harry Taylor concedes 15 goals for the season, yet the CHB position goes to Talia who concedes 27 goals. Now I know who I'd prefer in my side.

Hint: Not Talia.

Mitchell has 4 B&F's, more than any other Hawk, in the greatest team of the modern era. He is also currently 5th, although most likely to be 2nd on the all time Brownlow medal votes after this years count. Here is the number of AA's given to the other 4 of the top 5 current players in terms of Brownlow votes.

Ablett - 8 AA's
Harvey - 4 AA's
Swan - 5 AA's
Selwood - 5 AA's

Mitchell..... 2 AA's.

What's your point?

Mitch has 3 AA's. Should at least have 4 though. How he missed in 2012 is still one of the strangest decisions I've seen

Mitchell has 3 AA's, great effort. Selwood has 3 as captain alone, and 5 total. Enright has 6 total. I'm taking Ablett, Selwood and Enright over Mitchell anyway so it seems OK to me.

It appears top 8 sides are more favoured than the bottom 8 except for a few obvious standouts.

That being said, people are getting way too fixated on an opinionated & subjective award.

Yeah, Mitchell in 2012 was a glaring omission. Not this year though. He should have a Brownlow soon enough to make up for it. I also think Kennedy (of the Swans variety) should have one from last year (AA, not Brownlow), but some years you just get unlucky.
