Martin's been terrific for two years, 43/44 games. Deledio as good, but only 36 games. Think Martin's time to be recognised has come.

Deledio's time to be recognised too, surely? He narrowly missed AA in '11 and '10 due to Richmond being rubbish, didn't even make the 40 man squad last year, nor did Cotchin, despite both being better than Ellis and Martin who made the list.

The games played thing will definitely come into account, but the only time Martin has ever been better than Deledio was in 2013. But even then, just like now, Deledio was beating taggers and direct opponents, something Martin still rarely has to deal with.

Deledio's lack of recognition shits me, like the Q2 extraction to Maric for a goal that didn't even rate a mention. You know if that was Cyril or Dangerfield or even Selwood we'd be treated to Bruce & co. gushing over multiple replays. But unfortunately, volume counts in these things. As Lloyd put it quite succinctly and reasonably a little while back, he missed five games, was injured in R1 and quiet v North (1) and Freo (2). That's a lot of ground to make up in 14 matches.

We all know Lids is AA standard, but those missed games will count against him because a) there's decent competition for spots and b) he's never been a media fav. He "deserves" a spot ahead of Dusty but Martin will get it because he's paid his dues by putting the lie to criticisms and playing consistent top-class footy for two years. He's the headline-grabber, the guy who beats his man one-out with the game on the line.

For all that, after a certain 10-vote game last night, Deledio will right now be inside the top 20 in the AFLCA voting.

Deledio would be in if it was up to me. Like you said he does things without getting his due credit. Has been better than Martin and is such a good kick, dangerous around goals, good handball in traffic and provides a presence and strong hands on the lead. Could easily be a very effective full forward for a season if required. Not in the top 10 players in the game but probably in the top 10 most important.

B: Rory Laird, Alex Rance, Easton Wood

HB: Sam Mitchell, Michael Hurley, Heath Shaw

C: Andrew Gaff, Nathan Fyfe, Dan Hannebery

HF: Patrick Dangerfield, Jeremy Cameron, Jake Stringer

F: Chad Wingard, Josh Kennedy, Eddie Betts

R: Todd Goldstein, Matthew Priddis, Trent Cotchin

INT: Brandon Ellis, Robert Murphy, David Mundy, Lachie Neale

Amazed at how little love McPharlin is getting. Hasn't been beaten ( more than two goals scored against) all season and has had no help due to all othe Freo KPD's being injured. Maybe worth noting the lack of Freo defenders in general being mentioned but I just don't watch enough of other teams footy to know the full story.
McPharlin is the best KPD in the AFL by a country mile. (While McKenzie is out injured)

Unbelievably underrated. Shame he has suffered so many injuries last few years as he really is a gun and if he played all games this year should be a shoe in over Rance.

Why hasent anyone included Patrick Cripps? Surely he is a chance?!
If Heppell didn't get in in his first year, there's no way Cripps will.

That's harsh. Look at his stats he's in the top 30 easily. Probably top 20

I agree he isn't AA quality yet, but he's not far off the 40 man squad

Hannebery - Boak - Beams
Kennedy - Cothin - Ebert
Priddis - Gray - Vince
Gaff - Ward - Barlow
Pendlbury - Ablett - Mundy
Swan - Fyfe - Hodge
Ellis - Macrae - Deledio
Neale - Murphy - Cunnington
Mitchell - Masten - Rockliff
Martin - Hill - Selwood
Armitage - Jack -
Steven - Shuey
Mundy - Harvey
Goddard - Boyd
Treloar - McVeigh
Stanton - Jones
Lewis - Parker
Heppel - Smith
Dahlhaus - Thompson
Dangerfield - Sloane

That's just 50, I could've kept going there are many more. He's a good young player but that's all he is for now. He is no where near the elite of the competition left alone the all Australian squad

Cripps is nowhere near AA. Wouldn't even make the third or fourth team.

Hodge won't be Captain. He's pushing shit up hill to make it anyway but surely the latest discretion will completely rule him out of an Captaincy debate, even for Hawk fans.

If he makes it, and Murphy and Walker miss out, Hodge will be the captain for sure. If one of the other 2 makes it, he probably won't.

Lol! West Coast supporters still don't get it re. Rance. McPharlin is a gun and has been for a long time. But Rance is one of the biggest locks in the team along with Fyfe and Kennedy. Best defender in the comp by a significant margin.
