Eagles are going to smash em.

If GWS do what they did for the first six quarters this year and flood back the Eagles will just lock them in their forward half and on such a big ground will systematically pick them apart.

If GWS at least try to take the game on and play with a somewhat normal structure the Eagles will will beat the crap out of them physically and start piling the goals on from the second quarter on.

This could be an almighty smashing of monsterous proportions. I wonder how close WCE can get to 300?

Agreed this wouldve made both clubs more competitive now and less of a problem later on. But they knew what they're doing, theyve been set up for 10+ years of domination. All those picks and then soaking up the best talent for another 3-4 years. Farce of a competition.

Agree 100%. When the inevitable Domination comes, how much satisfaction can gws/gc fans really take in it, given the massive advantages they've been given? It's like me crowing about winning a 100m race, when I've been given a 40m head start.

I maintain in it would have been fairer to both the newbies and the established clubs to make them take a more balanced mixture of seniors and kids. Comparing the current state of Sydney to Brisbane(and Port Adelaide, come to think of it) consistent high quality performances and regular finals appearances over a sutained period do more to build a fan base than a premiership followed by a descent down the ladder.

Might be the only thing that could halfway tempt me to actually watch that game!

Totally agree with this and the earlier posts sharing the same view.

The risk for these clubs is relying too heavily on the myth that transforming junior football talent into AFL superstars is just a matter of getting senior games into them. Unfortunately its not like caterpillars turning into butterflies.

I'm more worried about what the AFL will do if these two clubs evolve into squads with a bunch of under achieving average footballers.

It boggles the mind how people are trying to make a case for GWS, they are terrible and will get done by 200pts if the eagles actually try for the 4 quarters.

Bit unfair, apart from 2010 Embley has been one of the most important players in the team in the last 10 years.

I expect a 60 point win. Eagles beat goldcoast by like 20 last year, I expect a similar effort

Don't be stupid. We beat Gold Coast by 18 points one week after they were leading Geelong by 11 points at half time. By this time Gold Coast had already won 2 games. The Suns at that stage were no where near as bad as what GWS are now. They just came off a 128 point loss to North, you can't compare Gold Coast in Round 11 last year to GWS right now.

The AFL could have said we are giving you these draft picks but you MUST trade for more established players or you lose them.

E.g. instead of letting GWS have 11 first round draft picks, they could have told them, we are giving you 11 first rounders, but you need to trade at least 5 of them for established players.

There would have been no shortage of clubs willing to offload decent players for top 10 draft picks.

Sure in a perfect world. But GWS and to the lesser extent GC don't really have the appeal to players that big Melbourne clubs do.

It's easy enough to say picks 1 and 2 is worth a Goddard and that GWS should have used their picks. But why would a Goddard like player want to move to GWS?

GWS could get anyone for free, and still lost out on Pendles, Thomas, Hurley, Murphy etc. How would GWS coming to Collingwood or Carlton with draft picks change the players mind on where they wanted to play?

The teams are doing the best they can with what they've got. GWS will flood, WC will take their foot off the pedal. Will be a lacklustre 70 point win. But claims of 300+ point win is just stupid.

GIANTS coach Kevin Sheedy has begun the mammoth task of preparing his side for the arrival of the West Coast juggernaut on Sunday - and he has started by suggesting the Eagles might be too tall.

Sheedy and the rest of the Greater Western Sydney coaching staff have a near impossible job readying their fledgling side, which is coming off a 129-point loss to North Melbourne, to take on heavyweights West Coast.

Even for veteran coach Sheedy and his deep bag of tricks it looms as mission impossible, with some bookmakers refusing to even list head-to-head odds on the seemingly one-sided clash.

But Sheedy has found some positives - firstly the fact the game will be played truly in Sydney's west for the first time at Blacktown International Sports Park.

Secondly, and extremely optimistically, he is hoping to exploit the height of the West Coast outfit.

Good luck.

There is one other element that excites the always-exuberant Sheedy and it is a match-up he has heralded for some time.

That is the meeting of incredible athletes Naitanui and Israel Folau, who he guarantees will meet in the ruck at some stage.

"I have no doubt about it, that will happen," he said.

"It'll make the Pacific Island people living in the area come and have a look at a Fijian and a young man from a Tongan family and feel very proud about their countries.

Naitanui will absolutely destroy Folau.

GWS were actually pretty competitive in their first home game and I expect the same this weekend.

West Coast should win easily but I don't expect it to be the one sided massacre a lot of people are saying it will be, more like a 70-80 point win rather than a 140-150 point massacre.

Don't care if we win by a point, just don't want any more injuries

ain't that the truth - your 2012 season already has shades of our 2011 with injuries

4 points is 4 points and your % is killer at this stage, so taking it easy would probably be the best thing haha
