i'm not sure how those issues are connected zevie...
as for me, I'm flexible with the issues. horses for courses. I noticed that security issues were also mentioned for the jewish students. Now I support that. I'd like to see a gated community in caulfield to maximise the security benefits.

i dont even understand how the terms left and right can be used anymore. Anti immigration policies and increases in pensions etc tie up pretty nicely to the old labour movement in Australia. The French Right are planning to expand spending...doesnt sound too right to me.
it reminds me of that big circle political theory that i've forgotten...if you go left and right from a point in the circle, you end up meeting on the other side

The term 'populism' has a place here.
Much like MAGA, the Eurotrash version harks to the comforts of the olden days. This was when you could buy a house with a season's worth of paper round money, obtain a management position with an 8th grade education and a look of steely resolve, and you could walk down main street with a well-founded suspicion that you might be closely related to most of the people you come across.

It always reminds me of bibical stories and Paul....who was a roman citizen. The followers of christ were having a hard time of it when Paul had his "vision" and turned to preaching and writing epistles....but Paul was given more freedom to "preach the word" by the Romans because he was a roman citizen. Roman citizens used to stride across the known world without the fears that conquered folk had.....and i think in most ways that you look at it, we've been conquered and subjugated by the US empire. Americans see Julian as they see most non-Americans - individuals with no rights. (I would make an exception of one middle eastern country)

Well, Trump has always been a big fan of Putin and the way he wields power. And now the US courts have given him the opportunity to wield power exactly the same way when he returns to the Presidency.
