If you look at OECD countries, Australia is in the top tier of countries that get more revenue from company tax. Where we appear to be quite low, is GST / VAT. A lot of countries get more tax revenue from consumption, which would suggest the GST should increase.
How about a transaction tax

comparisons between countries on taxation reflects a race to zero on paying for a lot of things that business and wealthy people make money on.

And I look at what gov'ts spend their money on as much as how they collect it. For example, when govts bail out companies for economic situations such as covid or the 2008 banking thing. They bail out companies for their responsibilities when they go bust. Mining companies used to open up mining towns and now there's fly in-out. Companies used to build their own skilled workforce but now gov'ts and individuals have to pay for their own skills. I even question what the greater amount of defence spending is for - to protect the rich from overseas takeover or for extending markets.

People seem to fixate on welfare spending for gov't and say that corporates shouldnt have to pay for it. I look at schooling and wonder what sort of education system would be in place if the focus wasnt on providing corporates with workers. People look at the health system and see it as something corporates bear no responsibility for maintaining, even though a healthy workforce is something it requires.

I was reading an article yesterday that stated that women aren't having kids. More people are isolated and selfish and just dont want to put up with the costs etc. Capitalism is a significant reason. We have designed a great social system for selling products. We are consuming resources and polluting too. The middle and lower class is going to have to pick up the bill for all these longterm problems, and while they share some of the benefits, the focus of the system is the rich and the corporates. As far as i'm concerned, they get the greater benefits of modern life, they should be ones that bear the costs of maintaining it.

Billionaires in the US have backed fascism to avoid paying tax, just a matter of time before democracy falls and one of the superpowers acquires us.

Dare not cook for the starving. A hole in your roof will be blown open by the accidental forces of Israeli military.

Yeah JB, Israeli hellfire and spike missiles are now so accurate they can fly in the window and cut a square piece out of the roof from the inside before detonating....

Zev, the vehicle is an armored car. It is made by bolting square plates to a bracing framework, and you can see evidence of the transverse frame the plate was attached to in outline in the top photo just below the missing section across the remaining . If this was a normal car, yes it would have punched a roughly circular hole, but due to the armored structure, the weakness isnt the plate face, its the attachment points, and it has punched the whole plate in and then detonated inside (hence the blown out doors).

This is structures 101. Two minutes of FEA and a basic cad program will tell the tale. I'm still in hospital from a brain hemorrhage and I can debunk your shit with half my neurons scrambled.

Can you get it that Israel is engaging in crimes, and by swallowing what is often disinformation, you are contributing to that?

As fun as it is to kick a political footy over the blasted bodies of well-meaning aid workers, I'm happier to just condemn Israel given its impressive disregard for innocent human life over the past 5 months.

You continue to find ways to justify the unjustifiable, to swallow Israeli disinformation propaganda like mothers milk, and it makes you look like a pretty awful human being. I beseech you to stop.

He works for mossad, horseman, you are dealing with a logic free zone. Everything is the fault of hamas or probably the aid workers themselves who left the sunroof open

I don't think I had the prerequisites for this first semester structures course.

I hope your recovery is quick.

if you make your way through all of this without your skin crawling, you get a prize...

AI technology is still a bit clumsy these days. The spokesman looks and sounds alright, but the absence of any humanity in the eyes is the giveaway.

It seems that he will be given that humanity when he reaches the promised land.... be patient grasshopper

I for one welcome our robot overlords, we've pretty much cocked up everything you could on the planet so they can't do any worse.

Australia suspended its funding of UNRWA because we accepted the validity of a dodgy Israeli dossier which impugned UNRWA employees without evidence.

Now that Israel has destroyed an Australian life, quite incontrovertibly, maybe we'll have some stern words for our Israeli friends.

Questions need to be answered. How could they not see the difference between a clearly marked car and more valid targets, such as Palestinian journos, Gazan children, and hospitals?

Impunity breeds more impunity.

Anthony uses the word "targetting". His masters will not be happy.... I expect to see action taken against him.

I actually find it a bit sickening. 32000 deaths and **** all, but the minute there's one Australian death, Albo arises. THis one's not for Penny, this is national pride from Albo... talking sternly.
