Well that was all a bit ho hum (disclaimer - I left after half an hour so things may have gotten more interesting). There were only 9 players on the track, from memory since I'm not so nerdy I can bring myself to take notes at training: Hill, Clarke, Clancy, Broughton, Faulkes, Balla, Roberts, Mellington, Silvagni. Ross the boss was not sighted by me.
The medial in fact outnumbered the playing group with Lachie, Barra, Ray Wilson spearheading the charge along with assorted camera men.
They did a casual lap, some warmup exercises and then ball work (the players that is not the media although that would have been fun!)
The best news was seeing Hilly and Balla both running around like greyhounds as opposed to last year when they were nowhere near running this time of year. All those out there looked fit & happy to be training. Good spirits.
Zack has shaved the Fro down and looks in ripping shape. His skills and pace are so impressive for one of his size.
Roberts is moving freely. Has an interesting ball drop, didn't realise he's a lefty but seems to hit the target. Will watch his progress with interest.
Clancy looks fit, seems to have modified his ball drop a bit on to the boot, doesn't look as weird when he kicks now. Make or break for him this year assuming he gets re-drafted.
Broughton and Silvagni are just solid pros now. Silv looks a real man on a mission to me.
Faulkes I just don't know, his kicking and general skill level worry me, but it's early days and he's known as a good stopper. We will see.
Anway that's all I've got. Others may have more. Perhaps 5 minutes after i left the other half of the 1 to 4 years came out and Ross address the faithful from the balcony.
Cheers E-Shed!
Can anyone recall if they train Thursdays?
I think it was more of a 'back up and running at full capacity' comment, rather than a 'running for the first time in 12 months' type comment. He would've been jogging after 2-3 months (IIRC) and running after 4-5 months (again IIRC; it's been a while since I did mine).
Mzungu! That's who I forgot. Knew I missed one. Thanks Yakka man.
I did,2010 ball work straight up,2011 run, run and more running.Salim! 2010 didn't you say they did less running and more skills (emphasis on tackling?)
Just trying to recall our convo last pre
O rly?

Fremantle forward Hayden Ballantyne has set his sights on playing a midfield role in 2012.
Speaking this morning after Fremantle players had finished their first official training session under new coach Ross Lyon, Ballantyne said he had set himself specific fitness targets so he can spend more time in the middle next year.
"I have got new goals I have set for myself. If I get to them I should get a fair crack in midfield," he said.
Ballantyne said Lyon had spoken to all members of the Dockers squad: "He seems like a good bloke, a genuine guy, and I can't wait to work for him."
He also said he had talked to sacked coach Mark Harvey several times.
"It (Harvey's sacking) was a shock to everyone but there's another season coming up and you have to get over it," Ballantyne said.
"He's a grown man and he's copped it on the chin."
Report pretty much Similar to E-Shed. I didn't spot Lyon out on the track until half way through. Only ten players by my count hit the track. No Time Trial, long warmup, skills and then run throughs. I sighted Barlow, Fyfe, Suban, Crichton, Morabito, Roberton, Pitt, Johnson, Walters and De Boer but none took part in training. Skills looked quite good but definitely wasn't the hardest session.
Worry part for me was they brought out a simple balancing pole and Walters was with Prescott and couldn't even cross it after multiple attempts. He has strapping on his left knee but it is a frightful thought that a professional sportsperson can't balance himself. I didn't notice much of a change in players body compositions. Hill is starting to look like a man instead of a boy and Mellington has put on some good muscle and has a really strong build. Gavin Roberts was very reluctant to hit 1/2-3/4 pace and is obviously conscious of his injury prone body.
Good to see Ballantyne in good nic and running well, same with Silvagni. Pearce looks in better shape and has a noticable gorilla like back with strong musculature. Zac Clarke stil hasn't put on the size I would have hoped for but runs like a pro. Very quick of the mark. Mzungu has picked up from last pre-season and was running very well with good skills and marking.
I would of hoped for more than ten players training at this time of year and I don't know why they didn't but in 4-5 weeks we will have another 10 or so players on our list.
Behold! It slightly worries me Ballas spending time in the guts. I would only want him in there for small spells as we know how damaging he can be (Re: GOTY)
With 2 strains of the 'ham' in 2011, I feel Ballas in too injury prone to deal with large amounts of time in the mid.
The only benefit I can see from this is forcing Pav to stay forward...
Ballantyne, who finished ninth in the 2011 Doig Medal, stayed on at the end of last season to complete a sprint training program and fix flaws in his running technique.
He was hopeful that putting in the extra work would help prevent more hamstring injuries.
"I've got poor technique apparently when I run, so I was just trying to strengthen up certain muscles that aren't working properly and get the technique right," he said.
"I had about a week off with just complete rest and then started building up again slowly.
"If I can sharpen a few things up, it should help."
