Re: Lyon raising the bar for pre-season

Still a bit concerned that Barlow is set to start running in 2 weeks time.

Any idea why? Has he had more surgery?

Re: Lyon raising the bar for pre-season

Sorry to nitpick but..

should not all the stuff re pre season training be in the thread marked "2012 preseason training"?

You lot are a rabble - a bit of order and discipline is what you all need.

And a jolly good thrashing as well.

Not only a pretty face

2012 starts now

http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7009/newsid/125871/default.aspx

The 2012 pre-season officially kicked off today for the Fremantle Dockers as a group of the club’s first to fourth year players were put through their paces at Fremantle Oval.

The part I liked in this article is this:

Another to appear in great nick was Zac Clarke, while rookie listed Gavin Roberts, who had his 2011 season ruined by injury, was also out on the track and running freely.

Re: Lyon raising the bar for pre-season

Yep prob should of went in proper thread but ohwell most will still see it.

An great to see Salim back also.

Stoked to hear more emphasis on skills.

I remember Salims reports leading into 2010 how pre season we did lots of skills work, positioning work an tackling work.
Then suprise suprise in 2010 season our skills, positioning an tackling were our strongest points throughout the season.

Then reports leading into 2011 season all i kept hearing was running, running an more running players looking really lean (not good imo)

Always thought the most important things we should be doing are skills of the game etc.
Get them sorted an it makes everything so much easier.
Ofcourse got to get the fitness an endurance levels up also.
Got to remember now we are using the draft we are picking up inexperienced kids still learning the game an perfecting their skills.
If they dont work hard on them an do it in our training sessions how will they ever get better.

100 days to jog. 6 months to start pushing it, depending.

Okay so more like 3-4 months to jog not the 2-3 months like I said originally.

I'm fairly sure I was running (not sprinting and/or doing any quick changes of direction) before the 6 month mark though. Not sure, again, I did mine a while ago.

I had some swelling in the knee after umpiring on the weekend. Had a bit of a panic, because I hadn't had anything resembling this before in the rehab.

The physio said this morning it can happen as you get close to full loading again. So back on the bike and in the pool again, and cut the running in half for a week or so, until the knee gets used to the gaining muscle.

It's funny how aware of your knee you become during the rehab process I reckon. I could tell when there was any little difference to my knee back then, whereas these days I often forget which knee even had the reconstruction.

That's the hardest part about getting back into competitive play. That awareness can take some of the instinctive play away when you first start up again. There is just that split second of hesitation you didn't have prior to doing the injury.

Perhaps something similar?

You mean for Morabito? Sounds likely, my surgeon told me that there is a fair bit of `two steps forward, one step back' action when rehabilitating after an ACL reconstruction. I certainly found it to be the case. Build up to something, attempt it, recover from it, build up to try it again, rinse, repeat.

Re: Lyon raising the bar for pre-season

Michie in the midfield is a better option thanks

Goal of the year says otherwise.

If Ballas can get consistent repeat efforts through the middle he'll be a tough little nugget to try stop. Hill + Ballas + Mora streaming through breaking lines

Re: Lyon raising the bar for pre-season

Was talking michie v walters and mello - id rather michie in the midfield and walters and mello fighting over small forward role

Yeah. Apparently it's about 100 (although I got to that at 90) days to run, and gradually moving to running bends and being able to change directions at 6 months.

Apparently it is a bit like this over the rehab process, but I've been extremely lucky and the physio has apparently been waiting for me to have a "normal" issue. Instead, all my setbacks have been on my other leg. Strained my achilles 2 weeks after I started running, then had terrible tendonitis in it, and more recently quite bad shin splints. :D

At least Mora has the time to get it all right.

Isn't Mello more like Mayne's height?

Walters can effectively lock himself into the small forward role if he can get his head/body right.

Ballas should rotate between forward and mid. More midfield time would help him get involved when he's having a quiet one.

Michie is transitioning into a midfielder but was mainly a HF when drafted - should be okay as a small forward/rotating mid until he gets comfortable around stoppages. Much prefer Michie getting a gig on the flank ahead of Pitt until he stops looking mulnourished.

Detecting just a little bit of Gormsby here.

As you were...

It's only been a couple of months since he was last on the track, but does anyone else think Stephen Hill is a different shape? He just looks bigger in the arms and shoulders than last time I saw him. If he's no longer a wiry kid when he next graces the field, he could be absolutely anything next season.

Early days, but cautiously optimistic.

I agree. As others have said, the biggest thing is that he's actually out there hitting the track whereas this time last year he was MIA, something 99% of BF posters wouldn't have known about.

Pleasing to hear Ballantyne say Morabito is tracking well. Actually he said he is a "Ripped Animal" with his shirt off.

This time last year Hill was out there running in the 3km Time trial. He started the Pre-season well and then got struck down with injury late Novembe to early December. At least I though so, I went to many training sessions at the start of Pre-Season where he trained well. Hill does look a tad bigger, hard to tell though.

that sounds right to me. he was training fine and then got shin splints before xmas and was in cotton wool for the rest of the preseason.

man, deboer is seriously going to hurt people next year. the guy is massive.
