Bond on PR last night said Mora "should play at least some footy towards the end of the NAB cup" and that Mundy was actually "a bit later" than Mora in his likely hood to come back!:(
I think, more than anything else, this signifies the extreme desperate idiocy Harvey had in bringing back Mundy in the third last game. No better highlight of his injury management practices.

I agree...... Why risk a star player for the next season when you have no chance of playing successfully in the finals.

Agreed. In a lost cause, he had to have more surgery and he may not play the early part of this season.

Sorry to get back on topic guys,
but is there going to be training at freo oval today?

Got the morning off!

Is Mundy still recovering from the ankle injury in the game against Essendon last season?

I can't find confirmation Wig but I believe there was some other surgery he had post-season that he is recovering from. It may be related but my memory is it was his foot rather than the ankle.

Broughton was great today wasn't he!

I love the session today. For the first time ever I (and a few others) applauded a passage of play during a drill when Fyfe hit Mayne lace out at full stretch on a long fast lead.

You can feel the tempo & intensity is lifting as we are now inside a month to NAB footy.
Ross the Boss is getting more and more precise in his instruction and every micro play is getting deconstructed with the players given the opportunity to self critique. At one point today Van Berlo took a strong mark, played on and kicked a nice ball along the boundary but Ross stopped it, told everyone to freeze, pointed at players inside in the corridor and asked VB "where are we more likely to kick a goal from?" When VB answered he said "ok what should you have done?" and when he liked the answer (I couldn't hear it) he nodded and called the next play. Great stuff.

There was some real intensity in some of the sims today. Clancy and MDB actually went the jumper punch on each other at one centre square setup (they had a laugh after). Anthony split a pack trying to drag in a big grab and there was some serious body contact at times. I think the players are starting to realise how tight the contest is going to be for a spot in the team with players like Crighton, Mellington, Van Berlo, Pearce etc fighting over 1 or 2 spots.

Some random observations. Suban always plays on the last line of defence at match sims and almost always is the first person kicking in or starting play. Duffield is playing further up the ground running from half back across the centre playing the rebounder where he does his best work. Similarly Johnson is lining up as loose man in defence. Kepler contests some ruck knocks but is being used mostly as a leading forward. Pav is always playing forward :) McPhee and Dawson playing negating defenders, McPharlin as fullback but taking off with the ball a lot, taking on the defenders. Balla is simply everywhere! A lot of planning going into getting Hilly the ball! DeBoer taking strong marks across half forward and his goal kicking is pretty reliable from 45 or inside. He's right on the edge of his distance from 50 but he's kicking straight and with good contact. Crighton is good in traffic.

There are more people at training regularly than I've ever seen and the mood is very excited. Hearing people talk about how organised it all is and how well the players are moving. I don't want to pump things up too much but I'm really starting to believe we are going to be a serious force this year.

Great report E Shed.

I was also there with Junior & my brother brought down 4 of his kids.

Other points to note were the running done by Sandi & Faulks. They did some 3/4 pace pace repeat 100m ish runs & then did laps. lots of them & Faulks was noticably better aerobically then last year.
To put into perspective Anthony's effort, he was actually told to go easy during a marking contest in the match simulation drill.

Fyfe, Ibbo & Lower trained well during the regular drills & during the match simulation, they ran laps. Fyfe ran the other 2 off their feet.

Fyfe would be worth a bob each-way for the brownlow.

Bond said it was " a pretty big operation he had". Surely has to be the ankle/lower leg syndesmosis from Essendon game.

I’m having trouble wrapping my head around the idea of going to hospital with possible shin splints. The physio at my club wouldn’t let me run on Monday if they weren’t sure what the soreness was in my lower legs or I was going in for a procedure on Tuesday.

I wonder if the Port Melbourne local who reported that may have gotten their names confused.
