Pick 128
It's getting tough now. I was tossing up between a few here and I suspect those I don't pick will be gone before my next shot.

Pick 128 - Trevor Poole

1638785209110.png

1985 Jack Dyer Medallist Poole played 99 games and kicked 56 goals for the Tigers before crossing to Geelong where he played a further 54 games and kicked 34 goals, and was a member of their 1992 grand final side. A dashing, well-built (188cm, 90kg), skillful, strong marking half-back, he also finished 3rd in the JDM in 1986. He was useful when thrown forward, with a best of 5.4 in a 91-point hiding against Sydney in 1987, and played some good footy on the wing for the Cats, but was best suited down back.

Poole represented Victoria twice in 1985. He could rack the ball up in his favoured half-back spot, frequently repelling opposition attacks. Dashing and consistent, he'll complement Bachar beautifully on my opposite HBF.

Before Brown broke his leg he was in the most red hot form of any player I've seen.
Knighta was fantastic for us in the lean years, but Brown the more talented footballer, IMO.
I would disagree. Brown averaged 2 goals a game, Knights carried our midfield for 10 years and was constantly in the best players.

Here's a reminder of his class in a final.

I will put my hand up and say my knowledge of club history leading into this was not great, and that's putting it mildly. And I didn't even understand what we were doing until about the fourth round. I thought we were just picking a best 22 all time, not our own best 22 lol. That said, i have learned a lot as it's gone on and it's been fun. It is certainly not a correct order of best Richmond players. Also, many picks are for needs and not best available.

I'd say my knowledge of players from the early 80s onwards is pretty good, and my understanding of those who pulled the jumper from the mid 60s onwards is also fairly good thanks to my dad, but anything before that was severely limited.
This whole process and researching those who played before has been fantastic for me.
Loved every moment of it.

that tape shows me that Greg dear needs to be picked up

You didn't rate him, PA? As a kid I thought he was a gun, was spewing when he left.

It was like he was a flash in the pan - had a ripping year - probably 1985 his JD year (I was busy playing myself in the 80's so didn't get to see a lot of footy), then was like that image of Homer Simpson receding back into the bushes - at least that was my recollection of him (as I said probably wasn't the best student of the game at that point). That said - you have a bit going for you with a JD medal - but was it a bit like Woewodin and a Brownlow maybe?

Brown was the best player in the comp when he broke his leg. He was incredible that year. Knights was a fantastic player over more than a decade.

How Nathen Brown got drafted in front of Mathew Knights has got me confused.
It's easy to sit there and question how Knights got picked after Brown, but when you're selecting against 8 others and need to pick players in positions it becomes a game of chess, where you might have 6 players you want to take but you need to then guess who the others might take before your next pick.

Imagine doing this real-time and waiting for 17 other Clubs to do their business......... ;)

Maybe the selectors could show more respect to a club champion, rather than a guy who played for only a few years for us.
