Can anybody point me in the right direction on how to vote from the richmondfc.com.au website?

I can't find it at all. I feel so dumb today.

First I forgot my keys in the morning so I couldn't open up the workshop when I got to work.

Then I transferred some money into the wrong account (Lucky both accounts were mine).

Now this...

Click on the link in that page where it says.

Click here to cast your vote. ;)

Is GE Capital simply a rebranded GE Finance or are they separate subsidiary as for some reason I think of GE Finance being the reputed loan sharks, while GE Capital deal more with Business loans and operations.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure they're separate. I just wanted to see how Neil would react.

After all that, can you trust yourself to vote today ?

This attitude drives me insane. The only way it would make sense is if the job of running the club (or the country) was so simple anyone could do it. Do you want an average punter at full-forward, to represent the members? No, you want the best bloody person for the job. The reason there are, and should be, accountants and lawyers on the board is that the job is about managing the club's finances and legal obligations. They have the skillset for it.

You missed my point. I was merely suggesting that one board member be someone from a different background so we get a cross section of supporters represented on the board. i.e. so the Board actually represents the members rather than a narrow interest. If you continue to draw people from the one industry sector by and large they will tend to be the same kind of people. I want the best player at Full Forward but playing football and sitting around a board table are two completely different things. Your suggest that only accountants and lawyers are the only smart people around. Remember we have an administration in place from the CEO down (Brendan Gale is a lawyer and a footballer but no good at full forward) to manage the day to day functions of the club.

It's an unpaid position, so what you're talking about are people who have demonstrated enough business savvy to be highly successful, but are willing and able to work for RFC for free.

So you are saying that only people who you consider successful are the ones you make money in life. What about a paramedic who saves peoples lives each day? To me that person makes a more valuable contribution to society than some lawyer who reems their clients at $500 per hour.

Okay, what? Or should the club sink into the red because "surely" there are other pots of money out there. Fair enough you don't like pokies, but that is exactly the kind of emotive decision I'd expect from an average punter: don't worry about the finances, they'll sort themselves out.

Not an emotive decision. Just one based on the fact that the person who gambles is usually not the one who suffers. It's the kids who miss out on three square meals a day because one of the parents is putting the weekly pay check through the pokies down at Bentleigh RSL. Of course I am interested in the finances of the club - hence the reason I am a member! Why don't we just get into pubs that have no pokies??

Your point illustrates just how far AFL has become a business.

The absolute worst pollies have been people with no useful skills or experience other than making themselves seem relatable. God save RFC from another one of those.

But some of the best pollies have been farmers, union leaders, teachers, business people etc etc. There is good and bad in every organisation, hence the reason we have a board election where as members we can express our opinion.

I am employed by GE Capital as General Manager of their Fleet and Equipment Finance business. It is a Commercial Finance business. Hope that provides some clarity.

Neil McKay definatley didn't get my vote, especially after trying to unsettle the club. Stories like this are very much 'old' Richmond and not acceptable anymore...

To be honest, everything that was placed in this article is exactly what Neil has posted on this site. It would not surprise me if the article was bourne out of a reporter trolling this site.

Neil has conveyed exactly where he sees opportunties for improvement at the RFC and has explained where his skills & expertise may be able to assist with those perceived opportunities.

People criticise candidates for not standing for anything or conveying what they will do if they were elected, yet when someone actually does convey something, people at times go over the top.

The ability to have open and honest discussions re: the current state of a club or business is the cornerstone to success, regardless of whether this is in the open or behind closed doors.

Elections unfortunately have to be played out in the open, otherwise we as members would never know who a candidate is, what they stand for, what their experience is and where that experience will assist the RFC.

In saying all that, I will probably stick with the incumbents. :)

yeh its true everything the article was posted by Neil McKay and Phil Anderson on the richmond boards (BF,PRE,Y&B,OER).
Just Caro trolling the sites and making an Article out of them!

Ive actually thought long and hard about this, this year and done abit of research on all candidates, March was easy for me to vote for, i really like his work with Benny Gale and it'd be stupid to unsettle that now!

The other 4 candidates was hard for me to vote on, I really like what Neil McKay has to offer the board with his role at GE and his sales expertise, i think thats vital for getting and keeping sponsors!
Phil i think is a real wildcard, he's expressed his passion for the club and his background in running 2 fibre optics companies that are known and used worldwide is something i think will be valuable to the club in connections/sponsors going forward.
Peggie and John have done some great work and while it seems harsh to disband them when things are finally looking up off field im all for fresh blood and personally ive found it out the hard way that old habits are hard to change and while i think both Peggie and John have done outstanding jobs and would be happy to see them continue i voted for Gary, Phil and Neil!

elections are really hard to deal with when things look positive!

Oh and BTW, maybe the AUSTRALIAN GOV WILL LEARN A THING OR 2 ABOUT VOTING ONLINE!!!!! FRICKEN MAKE US GO TO A SCHOOL OR SOMETHING WHEN ITS PISSING DOWN RAINING!!!!

Let me be very clear I did not approach the Age or any other media outlet regarding this election. I do not want to have this election played out in the media. I have nominated for the Board to provide an alternative skill set to address some of the issues that the club faces.

Neil McKay

So neil, you think tigers should not play that whole 1 game in cairns? well, you lost my vote as a member of richmond, who is a resident in NQ and this being the only game i will be able to get to, i would like to say once again you have lost my vote.

theres thousands of tigers benifiting from the cairns deal in NQ and the club itself is also going to benefit. its just 1 game ffs

I think most understand this is the case. There was nothing in that story to suggest you were doing that, it literally looked as though comments on here (and other sites) have been used as the basis of certain facets of the article. Certainly nothing de-stabilising on your part.

I suppose that is the trap with posting on social media. It is very easy for journalist to just lurk through threads and write up stuff.

It wasn't Caro that wrote that up, it was Jon Pierik.

I think that it would be better for the club to set up a secure site that members can log in to for information on candidates or to ask any questions.

I argue that Anderson is simply trying to point out the flaws of those currently elected, then coming up with a solution. It's actually quite frustrating to read. (along with his spammed blogs) This is an attitude that I classify as old Richmond and I strongly don't want to see people like this involved with my club.

This is my example.

Anderson wrote: ''I congratulate them on finally taking this initiative. This has been a topic of discussion within our coterie groups for many years,'' he said.

''The only point that I would like to make is that this debt has been in place for as long as some of the candidates that are up for re-election.''

A good thing for our football club has been spun around by Anderson to benefit HIMSELF and his positioning on our board.

It's also a lack of knowledge from someone who wants to actually work with a majority of these board members, it's a five year plan that has been discussed in magazines, forums and an online chat directly with March. March said that he wanted to show members, supporters and stakeholders in the club that we can establish an operating profit on our own before asking for donations. (we have posted operating profits every year for the last six)

That's a pretty good reason to launch a debt demolition objective at this time, it gets me to think as a member of the Richmond football club that I am helping a club, and I'm not being relied on.

Everyone up for nomination is allowed 100 word piece which is posted on the RFC website. That includes the incumbants who, unlike you and Phil, are not allowed to post on forums, blogs and what not.

re: The article, sure you didn't talk to The Age. But if you didn't realise in advance that everything you posted could and would be misprepresnted as a story about possible backroom dramas at Richmond, then I question whether you have what it takes to be a Board member.

I cringed when I saw Phil start with his blog/forum lobbying. It was fairly plain to see that the media would write up a piece about our looming elections and the juicy power struglle between the board and the coiterie groups.

And what's the bet we never hear from these two again once the popularity contest is over?

Honestly i hope we dont hear from them if they are elected! it means they're getting stuck into getting the RFC back where it belongs as a Powerhouse of the AFL!
