Re: Riewoldt blaming the dome surface?

Whoever the Mod was who merged this OP with the ugly Saints threads really isn't reading the posts. Do we just merge any thread relating to a team regardless of subject? So now there's just going to be 16 threads?

Weird.

I'm trying to work out what the O.P has to do with "And Swans get labelled ugly???' or "St.Kilda Killing Football."

Agonising watching from a neutral POV.
It must have been hell for the sides supporters...

God, I need a long drink after that.
Hell? For who? Us?

The mods are deleting posts left, right and centre tonight. By deleting and merging they are just creating a confusion as far as I'm concerned.

Flooding the crap out of games hasn't gotten you anywhere either. And i don't think it will this year. If your gameplan is to hope the opposition chokes in the last 10 minutes then you have massive problems.

Amazing that Riewoldt is the only decent forward you have, take him out and all of a sudden you go defensive because even Ross knows the rest of his forwards are rubbish.

I think i actually know why teams can lose to the saints by 100 points. I gave up watching the match, imagine what its like playing against that bullshit.

Its more enjoyable watching the eagles turnovers kick a winning score for the opposition than that crap.

Re: St Kilda are a cancer

Every game they win is doing irreparable damage to our great game. And I fear it could spread throughout the league. The worst thing that could possibly happen to the AFL is a St Kilda premiership with this current gameplan.

Spot on :thumbsu: I hope a team that plays fast, attacking footy that's exciting to watch wins the flag this year or we'l see more of this ultra-defensive, ultra flooding crap!!!

12 - 0, pleb.

once in a life time list of players (all under the salary cap courtesy of Waldron of course) - and you still have nothing to show for it - PLEB II

agree 12-0

also agree 16 flags to........1 was it???

all the best with your 'luck of the draw' game plan to win a flag while the window is open

Geelong have shown the style (adventurous, attacking, courageous) to seize the opportunity when it presents itself - nothing but credit to them

Saints will no doubt pi*ss their opportunity away (again)

Did that take you all night to think of darling

5-1

4 points is 4 points. It's so cute how you are all getting so revved up

Still hurts that you're our bunnies, ay?

I think we all understand and agree that a win is a win yes. But what we're all saying is simply that the style of football that St. Kilda are displaying is really just ugly to watch. Surely you can act impartial for 10 seconds and understand that supporters of the other 15 teams, and even many St. Kilda supporters I presume, feel that the game style that Geelong have pioneered is much better to watch.

That's all this is, we aren't saying St. Kilda is a bad team at all just that they're not exciting to watch. The Saints have the players to play like Geelong but they don't do so. That's their decision and it results in this kind of game.

I wonder how many St Kilda supporters who are staunchly defending this style of play now were just as staunchly criticizing the Swans game plan about 5 years ago?

It's interesting how the club they support determines the view of so many supporters, not the actual principle or event involved.

FWIW, I don't have a massive objection to the style of play, although I can understand why people do. I get equally as frustrated watching unaccountable, uncontested football to be honest. I guess the ideal for me is somewhere in-between.

the game had no real heights, but like us in our premiership year, a win is a win in getting the 4 points, just look at the Dons, all out attack and no defence mentallity what-so-ever, it doesn't win games of footy, then again Geelong 2007
(just joking re: illegals)

The Swans are a far different team now but Coach Roos used his "cattle" wisely back then. Stay close in a low scoring match, then come over the top with Captain Kirk's leadership and the fitness that Stewie Maxfield brought to the club - and generous contributions from the now be-kenneled Large Professor.

Going in, Saints sans Slick Nick AND given last week's form, lose on paper. They kept a crap contest close and contrary to the concept of coming over the top they kept their cool when the Doggies started biting and sucking like vampires. I thought the Doggies had it when Nicky D sent ANOTHER kick OOF on the wing.

That said, even for that type of gameplan - tonight's game was nowhere near as enthralling as the Swans-Illegals' grannys. Crap footy, fact fans fact. As a Swans supporter I loved the game and postgame, was heartened and encouraged to hear Lethal Lee ask (something like) : Are you factin' tellin' me these are two top four teams???

I think you'll find I did not say the result would not have been very pleasing.

The game, the style of game and specifically from a Saints supporters POV the game barring the last 5 minutes would have been incredibly annoying.

From a neutral POV it was yell "kick the ****en thing" at the TV territory for 115 minutes followed by 5 minutes of "how the **** they got a win out of that?"

4 points is 4 points but you can't realistically tell me you enjoy that style of game, peppered by numerous errors, masses of turnovers and 70 backwards possessions per forward thrust simply to kick to an opposing back.

It was agonising to watch.

I said it when the Swans were playing this way and I'll say it now - I much prefer a game like that to a game of uncontested basketball.

They're both examples of the game's decay. The excitement's draining out of it. How can coaches and players be encouraged to take risks prior to the last few minutes? I don't know that they can. No wonder Ross Lyon's in favour of shortening the game.

Lucky we have richmond to show how the game should be played where you dont have to worry about defence - and really the richmond focus on losing all the time, thats much better then playing hard contested footy like the saints that is focused on winning games.

The last refuge of a scoundrel - attack the poster's team. Yes, we are shithouse.

The only reason I watch football is because it's entertaining.

If all footy was like tonights game, I wouldn't watch it.

Dont care if it wins you games, if its shit to watch, I aint watching.
