HOLDEN'S Rick Kelly will retain the 2006 V8 Supercar championship title after stewards today dismissed a protest by his Ford rival Craig Lowndes, it has just been announced.

Lets hope 888 take it on the chin.

In the end I think the call is right. Whatever the decision, one team was going to remain unhappy.

The sport needs to spend the off-season reviewing its rules and driving rules to avoid this happening again

In accordance to the rules the right decision was probably made which was why I thought it wouldn't be overturned.

The sport needs to spend the off-season reviewing its rules and driving rules to avoid this happening again

Rule number #6969 - The Rick Kelly Rule; anyone being found guilty of driving like a demo derby hack and destroying another drivers chances of a championship win while elevating their own should be dragged naked across a salt plain at just above running pace for about an hour.

the decision was never going to be overturned, and yeah the kid is champion, but did he win it fair and square??? no he didn't. like I said before he has lost alot of the respect he was building through his racing ability. Not just from the punters, but probably from the drivers as well .

I remember when Brocky died a lot of the drivers commented about the fact he always played fair, regardless of what the outcome was.

Rick enjoy your championship, gaze at your trophy and think about what it has ultimately cost you.

Everyone here is over reacting
From what i could see it was the faintest of touches r kelly gave lowndes and lowndes made it look worse by over committing to the corner and braking too deep. As a result he went into t.kelly and spun.

plenty of incidents like this occur at every round

stop whining and get on with it, thats racing

won the championship

lost respect

I dare say he would need respect first in order to lose it. The day he caused that crash with Bright that could have killed him which was the stupidest piece of driving I have seen, they should have removed him from the V8's and put him in a lower level until he grows a brain, obviously he still doesn't have one judging by his lack of judgment and or class.
And then to put the blame on Lowndes after the race confirms what an arrogant undeserving champion he is

Exactly champ. All these ford whingers have no idea. If the same incident happened between two different blokes, nothing more would have been made of it. The right penalty was given during the race, and no more needed to be done. :p

When I saw it on the news last night my first thought was Michael Schumacher on Jacques Villeneuve at Jerez in 1997. The FIA stripped Schumacher of his championship points for attempting to ram Villeneuve off the track - I can't see why AVESCO couldn't do the same to Kelly.

Fair call. Even many Holden fans would agree with that - they may be happy he won but won't be proud of his efforts.

Agreed.
Some Holden fans on one of their forums have already stated that he didn't deserve it and that the banner in the crowd is correct. 'Shame Holden Shame'.
P.Rick Kelly indeed.

Ahh well,
GO FORD 2007!!
:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu: ;)

obviously an armchair , crompton believer. I sit on the other side of the fence, and rules are rules , you hit from behind you must be penalised.

unfourtunatley, VESA and CAMS(C***** Against Motorsports) do not think like this.

Change the rules next year, damage is already done, take it to a court and use this as a precident. To win, simply punt anyone of the track.
case closed.

Oh by the way I do support both makes and believe in fair racing, unlike the walkinshaw a*** licking brigade

He was penalised, he got a drive through penalty. It wasn't Ricks fault that another FORD drove straight into Lowndes while everyone else managed to get around him. Get over it Ford fans, Rick is the Champ!!

Because AVESCO have no balls.

Triple Eight should take this to court.

Ahh Melbdave81, you have proved to be an armchair, waffle crompton, dribble diffy patsy. As I stated, I am from the trackside, Official to less educated, and the penalty doesn't suit the incident. I can a ssure you that a simalar incident in a porsche race resulted in fines and loss of points. So please get out of the chair become a marshall. Maybe then, you and others will have a better understanding of the bias of the rules.

Oh by the way I hope Larry retains a Paul and Shane and Jack.

That's fantastic, I'm very happy for you Official. I may only be an armchair fan but that is what keeps the sport alive so wouldn't be having a go at that. I've seen plenty of similar incidents this year where the same penalty has been applied. The only reason its being discussed is because it was the final race of the season.

no, thats what cromptonites like to think. put down the beer glasses and see the track.

as a self proclaimed official. You of all people should know there is a wide interpretation of rules. If the officials such as yourself cant get it right or a similar interpretation, why is it any less credible when an armchair supporter does the same?

Thank you underdog, I am less credible but still have an opinion. If the people in charge don't agree, what chance do I have? :D

Well I have seen my fairshare of motor racing in my lifetime so far, and to me that incident was nothing more than what rick was penalised for. These things happen in racing, so you and your im an official crap can take it elsewhere. I have a mates dad that was cheif marshall at the GP in Adelaide for a few years, and he said there was nothing more in it than the drive through. If the other ford **** didnt run into him, Lowndes would have had a decent show.
