How long does it take Michael Christian to arrive at a decision with all the intent low high grade vlakies you hear him say.. then you have Whateley crucify him the entire week for getting it wrong like he's the guru's guru right.

So you want an umpire regardless of whether it's on the field or one looking on from the stands to make a quick decision on whether to issue a red card or not when the rules themselves are completely and utterly confusing to begin with re..

How many controversial decisions has Christian made sitting in the comfort of his seat.. going about things in a lesiurely 'hey I'll have a wine' between administering fines and suspensions.. and you want an umpire to make a 30 second call on an incident?

I think Christiansen has been pretty good for the most part.

For every person out there crying over some he was lenient on, there were others who agreed with him. Some also think we go too far in some punishments and watering down the physical nature in our game.
Now what Gaff did was either weak as piss or at best clumsy errant strike (the way he swamg looked like he was going to hit his chest/shoulder area).
He should cop his whack (6weeks) but we don't want our game becoming precious and going after every little incident or scuffle or bump or hard tackle. Which sometimes the uglier incidents can bring about knee jerk reactions and changes like the sliding rule for 2 broken legs over 30 years....

We also bemoan the loss of the heroes and villains or characters of yesteryear, it's incidents like this that create villains and add to theatre unfortunate as it is for Brayshaw.

(1) Poorly managed by the AFL. Anybody who has spent 5 minutes in WA knows that they’ve got a chip on their shoulder (that dates back to before the constitution) about being told what to do by the Eastern states. If this is about community expectations then the adult in the room should have organised for the hearing to be in Perth.

(2) The media aren’t above sensationalising. I’ve never seen Brayshaw play, but to call an 18 year old a “Star”? I’m dubious. Also, of course the “Australian Federal Police” provided protection for Gaff, who else has jurisdiction over public order at our airports?

Can think of something more dubious than that re.. calling Daisy Pearce a star and champion simply BC she's aflws biggest ambassador.. she has kicked 3 goals in 2 seasons and avgs less than 7 possessions a game.. what is she a tagger re?

Unfbelievable re.

Just on the Gaff hysteria is Neville Bruns serious asking for a 12 month suspension??

It was a brain fade......Gaff doesn't have priors.

It will happen again in our sport guaranteed...…...suspending him 8 or 15 weeks will not change that.
I’m absolutely for a season suspension
Video killed the radio star...

Prefer no red card myself

That’s the second time I’ve seen you have a crack at Daisy Pierce ... did she swipe left you on Tinder or something?

No way, 6 weeks max.

I'm not even sure he meant to get him in the face, the way he swings, direction and force (lack of snap in his hit) makes me think it was errant.

Also the way Brayshaw was continually changing levels and pivoting into him to bump him may have played a part in him missing his intended strike zone which looks to me like his chest/shoulder area that he aimed at initially at least.

Unlucky for both parties I feel when I look at it more..

And a waste of time to have a red card in place for it I feel.

Simply doesnt happen any more.. the rare occasions it does.. well let's see how both teams deal with it on the pitch.. another way of assessing how good sides really are. How they cope with it out there.

We both swiped right.. but she thought my subwoofers and popping my bonet at Hacis kebabs on bell to show off my supercharged turbo engine and my lowered to the max gemi was a bit too much for her to handle re.

I go 'what else do you do on a Saturday night re this is the best re'.

She basically has a lot of growing up to do. So it didn't quite work out.

All fair points.
Overall if you punch and break jaws intent or not you get a big time on the sidelines.

I think the emotive AFL 360 Gerrard and Robbo hanging crew has whipped the crowd into a frenzy...get pitch forks..kill the beast.

Need to keep in mind Gerred is against all things physical he'd ask for weeks in the womAFL if they broke a nail.
The guy is a wimp (almost effeminite) and Robbo is a hypocritical sook that looks for headlines, knowing the nanny state that pervades this country this would of had him looking like that south park gif we often see on here.

But yes it does deserve 6 on the sidelines because regardless of intent he chose to strike.

Sorry I obviously missed the brief about Slob and Gerard.
They are both irrelevant in this.
More to the point both have no sway on the tribunal.

It’s hard because most sports have some form of it, and it’s a good thing when something very violent or dangerous happens, like the Gaff hit.

What I’d be more worried about is how the AFL would implement it, they don’t have a very good track record of implementing things, ie the review system around the goals and how they still seem to stuff it up a lot.

I know ice hockey pretty well, and they have game misconducts, which means the players booted from the game, and it works. But then again the size of the rink means that not much is missed in that regard, so how on a massive footy field would they determine if one was needed if it happens so far off the ball? Cameras catch everything but then who calls it if the field umpires don’t see it?

Cards only to be used for the blatant ones. To our credit our code has not seen many of those incidents.
I think the one thing that should be overhauled about the game, Touch nothing else, but strive to make the Tribunal dole out firstly adequate, but more importantly, consistent and fearless penalties.

Barry Hall is the perfect example.
His hit on Staker, should have ended his career...not because it should have been 8 weeks and he should have never been able to sully the AFL by playing in a GF, but because his already accrued numerous suspensions which should have ended his career.

Cowards at AFL house were simply to weak at the time.

I am not saying Gaff's hit deserves his career, 8 weeks is appropriate.

Hall is still running around punching players behind the play in the QAFL.

Agree with all of that.

One year.

That would say simply no place in the game for such things.

Thought 8-10 myself, still not sure its totally correct.

Would have gone on the more significant side of the ledger, in this instance. Considering the mortifying result.

8 is “fair” for someone who doesn’t have priors.

I dont understand the 'Good Character' defence, like it carries weight into somewhat forgiving the act itself - which could physically and emotionally have caused permanent damage to an 18 year-old kid.

Doesn't fly with me.

It won’t change it IMO.

Brain fades will always happen Saintly.
Yes they will.

And for each such fade they can spend a year on the sidelines thinking about it.
