Andrew Lovett vs Colin Sylvia

No one argued they were statistically different, but like then you don't seem to grasp the concept of influence, either that or you thought Sylvia wasn't absolute shit before this year.

Sylvia had a reasonable 2008 and when this poll started he'd already shown what he was capable of doing, hence my view in late May that "the comparison is a reasonable one to make". You disagreed.

If there was a new poll started right now Sylvia would win it. And it's less than 4 months later.:)

Guess I was right.

Get over it.:thumbsu:

You weren't right... Don't understand the concept of time?

Let me help you out... In 95 a Carlton supporter says that the 95 blues team is the best of all time, 2000 comes along Essendon beat that record, now does that make the Carlton supporter wrong?

You thought that the poll was a joke and that the comparison was ridiculous LOL

Believe what you like, I can't be bothered arguing with someone intellectually challenged.

I posted on May 27, which was after round 9. Sylvia played in 9 more matches for the season and Lovett 13, but in that "time" Sylvia has managed to make a "ridiculous" poll turn on its ear. Your definition of "was" is embarrassing. Mind you, it's probably the length of time that my own 8 year old would find 'ages ago'.

More likely, it was never a "ridiculous" poll to start with.

Keep flying the insults. You've got nothing left.

When the poll was started Sylvia had done nothing to suggest this poll was even and Lovett was in career best form. The very premise of the thread was to demonstrate how ridicules the comparison was. Bias restricted your ability to look past the stats, kept focusing on the fact they had similar numbers. Your bias continued to affect your vision refusing to concede Lovett had much larger impact on games.

I agreed with the OP, at the time it was correct. The question was who is having the better season (up to when the thread was started).

No one, even yourself could predict the form Sylvia produced in the later part of the year.
I have already conceded the poll is justified at this point in the time but that doesn't mean you were right and I was wrong when it started, its simple past and present tense logic.

When the poll was started Sylvia had done nothing to suggest this poll was even and Lovett was in career best form.

People who'd seen Sylvia's 6 games prior to the poll starting, where he'd averaged 22 possessions and had kicked 8 goals, knew that it was a reasonable comparison. Which is the premise I was arguing at the time. Sylvia continued this vein of form as his confidence grew.

I argued that the comparison was reasonable at the time because I knew it was. And have been vindicated. :thumbsu:

I watched nearly every game this year, so don't even try to claim "people who saw his games would know"

Those averages were clearly influenced by one match, 37 disposals and 4 goals. Prior to that his only really good game for the year was against Richmond. In the 7 games before that he averaged about 17 disposals and less than a goal a game...

Lovett doesn't get extra stats for his game winning run through the middle of the ground on Anzac day, or his two goal assists from long runs in the Carlton game that won it for us. Lovett influenced many of our results throughout the year, stood up and won games for us...

I don't think Sylvia was at the standard based on influence, as did many others at the start of the thread. You did. Agree to disagree.

Lovett was pretty average in 2008, which was also one of the reasons that I thought the comparison was more than valid. In fact, they both averaged 18 possessions and about a goal a game. Stats may not tell the whole story, but no-one can say that Lovett has been a consistent footballer.

It's a good poll to start now and it was a reasonable poll to start in May.:thumbsu: And the latter point was really my main contention. As stated ad nauseum.

A hell of a lot of words for a pretty innocuous inference.

The poll was not reasonable when it was started, and its only bias that stopped you from seeing that. Sylvia has turned his whole career around after being pretty pathetic for a long time. Before this year Lovett was fairly average and inconsistent, Sylvia was shit. A differ in opinion, let this be my last post as I agree we have reached ad nauseam.

Hell yeah. In the words of Ben Bradlee in the movie "All the President's Men".... run that baby! ;)

11th I think, but Henry Slattery finished inside the top 10 so they are hardly the best judges of talent or performance :p

Considering the coaches and staff vote for it, I would hope for your sake that they ARE the best judges of talent and performance.
if they are not then your club is f**ked!!!!!
