I would take Sylvia, he has the potential to play a number of roles, he has way more upside than lovett, it just doesnt get noticed cos he plays for the dees who have been struggling for ages

The reactions from you Melbourne boys have been nothing short of hilarious. Lovett has been carrying a niggling leg injury ever since the West Coast game, it has been very obvious and reflects poorly on your ability to watch and understand the game.

And Sylvia has had OP his whole career.

Sylvia thanks.

Well it obviously hasn't been flaring up this year as he has been running freely...

It wasn't quite so easy. Sylvia played three games in his first season and 16 in his second, but having already battled groin and back problems as a junior, he developed severe osteitis pubis and couldn't get rid of it. He tried everything: pilates, yoga, all sorts of other suggested cures and still spent most of each week in pain. He hated that he wasn't playing as well as he wanted to, and he hated that his body wouldn't let him. He wasn't living up to his own expectations, let alone those of others. So when he reached the end of his third season, and even some of the club's medical staff wondered what they could try next, Sylvia wondered if it was time to give up.
"I almost gave it away, and I mean that," he said. "I didn't want to, but sometimes I thought: 'This just isn't working, my body won't hold up.' I remember coming back for pre-season and still not being able to get myself right. I wasn't enjoying myself at all, I didn't even want to go into the club some days and when I did, I felt like going in, doing what I had to do, getting out and going home. I wasn't performing like I wanted to, it was getting me down and I was sick of the pain.
"Walking was a hassle for me. It hurt to get out of bed every day, it hurt to get in my car and I was always whinging and whining about it. Not so much to people at the club, but to other people in my life I was always complaining how sore I was and they were probably getting sick of it. I was up and down and then sometimes I'd get obsessed with it, thinking: 'I've got to get this right, I've got to do this and do that'. And then it wouldn't work, I'd be back to the start and I'd think: 'This is so unfair'."

For some reason Sylvia kept going. He's not exactly sure why, although his father Craig provided great support, as did his manager, Tom Petroro. Then, midway through his fourth season, one of Melbourne's physios suggested Sylvia try some strategic taping, strapping him up just below his belly button, so tightly that his hips were almost rolled inwards and his pelvis was held firm.
The first time Sylvia tried it, he felt no pain the next day, and he believes now that in combination with more pilates, more yoga and continued work on his core strength, it has allowed him to keep playing. "It's sort of been the saviour," he said. "It's given me some belief back."

I guess we can put that down to 'strategic taping'.

Not at all, but I do concede that since he's treated his OP successfully, this poll is justified. Its a different poll, as the players are clearly very obviously different, its a jack all trades vs a master of one. Now its just down to preference.

Smart post. At the moment I would rather go into a game with Lovett in my side but would rather have Sylvia on my list due to his age and upside which in an improved outfit would be fairly large.

Lovett's last game was a Final. That's where players are judged. Lovett had 4 possessions in the first half. That's where the game was won and lost.

I strongly disagree with your assertion.

Very well said Trav :thumbsu:

I can't imagine Col going AWOL in a game like this mate, that's for sure...

MOST games before this year, yeah :p

Been a long wait for us to really see him firing consistently, that's for sure - but he's put in superb performances this season.

And I'd say he's still got some improvement to come...

Seriously... Don't even try to claim it, you were saying they were at a similar level when the thread was started...

This is actually part of what I said on May 27, "The initial response for BF posters is to scoff, chuckle, or guffaw over the comparisons of these two, but on closer reflection from a statistical point of view it appears to be a very fair comparison."

"Yes, stats don't tell the whole story, but the comparison isn't as daft as some would believe ..... Finally, Lovett is 3 years older - 26 to 23. Going forward, all things considered, give me Sylvia."

I haven't altered my view. :thumbsu:
