So it's not conceivable that he's telling the truth?

There is massive peer pressure on BigFooty to join the push to bin the paddlepop, and I suspect some people are confusing the group think of BigFooty to be something that exists in the real world. It seems to me that the comments from Johnson aren't some sort of conspiracy theory to push the paddlepop for God knows what reason, but rather a statement on the true nature of how things lie.
From someone I respect immensely on this forum, this is a very disapointing and ridiculous question and statement. It is absolutely inconceivable that of the hundreds of registrations received by TLR early in the week, only a handful have mailed their thoughts to the club. I am hardly the activist but despite my busy schedule and general laziness, even I made this a priority this week and expect that those who bothered to put "pen to paper" for submission to the website also printed, signed, sealed and delivered those letters. To suggest otherwise is to suggest either A. That there has been an incredible amount of lost mail, or B. I am surrounded by lazy liars.
That there have been over 900 people register with TLR and however many letters submitted, along with previous survey results and first hand experience of reactions to lastnights leaflets, in answer to your original question, NO, it is not conceivable that he's telling the truth?
My hope is that for whatever reason, you are in this instance just being mischievous in an exercise of playing devil's advocate.

Not being mischievous, just not buying the argument that Johnson is conspiring to thwart what the members want.

Don't know about "conspiring to thwart", but more likely denying that members truly want anything.
'Letters? What letters? Nothing to see here. Our members are overjoyed with the way the club is going'.
If they are not trying to thwart or deny members, what explanation is there for our marching orders lastnight?

Two Emails and a letter were sent from my household (from two members) in the last week, so if they've received 12 letters and 12 Emails in total last week, you can rest assured at least one eighth of that total is hostile to the paddlepop lion guernsey.

I have sent another email today....thats 3 in 2 weeks, and in all of them, I have spoken of the jumper.

Could someone not be passing on or mentioning the emails?

Note that I said 'Johnson', not 'they'. I'm guessing the staff at the game acted on their own volition, and considered people handing out fliers as a public nuisance, but I wasn't there so I can only guess.

Well I think as chairman, he represents the club (they). There were various people (fast food joints, free newspaper etc) handing out their stuff and some sporty dude collecting donations. The "eviction" was specifically ruled by the club for the TLR leaflet distributors.
Granted, the decision to move us on may not have been Johnson's. The denial of letters and the moving on of TLR are 2 seperate examples of what is obviously the club's position on the matter.

'They' as in 'us vs them'. Why can't we all just get along?

Getting along requires communication. Unfortunately there is a massive disconnect in effect.

I would personally like to see Chris Johnson join the board.

He certainly would add a tremendous amount of experience to fulfil the role even as a football director, a role that most successful clubs have and a no-brainer anyway. Not to mention, he understands the heritage and Victorian and Brisbane supporter bases in both markets and the importance of preserving Fitzroy's heritage and the need for the members to have a vote.

But the biggest drawcard for CJ is that like Eddie Maguire, Jason Dunstall and James Brayshaw, he has various national media platforms on 3AW and the Marngrook Footy Show to unashamedly promote and get the club's brand out there in the manner of Eddie, Jason and James. It is a massive opportunity wasted by the club NOT getting him on the board.

Would love to ask CJ if it is something he would consider.

On top of that, I'd get rid of Holmes and bring in the Tank as CEO.

Where angels fear to tread: I have followed the Lions since 1995 so obviously nowhere near as long as some around here.

Nevertheless my thoughts- I can to some extent understand the attachment many clearly have to 'old Lion' but I am buggered if I can see how it has apparently come down to daggers drawn. To me, when they run out I can barely see the bloody logo. And to be absolutely honest I could care less. The logo isn't the reason I follow the Lions and it sure isn't the reason I have stuck with them over the winter years of the last decade.

What I am far more concerned about is what is inside the jumper. Now after the last 2 weeks I reckon that's quite enough to be going on with.

I reckon if we're all going to get het-up and be hassling the Board then I reckon performance and recruitment is what our focus should be on. If we were regularly playing finals I don't think the logo would figure highly in most supporter's priorities.

What occurs to my tiny mind is if there is all this hassle centered around this topic then it'll be WW111 around here if and when Voss gets the boot.

Civil War - Guns N Roses

wrb, you stunned me with that set of lyrics. truly one of the great anti-war anthems.

did you type the lot out?

and I back you 100% Mickey Conlon for CEO. was disappointed he did not get the job originally. I do know a lot of footy people in Mackay are very impressed by him.

Cut and Paste, but music lyrics are often relevant as was the case in this one. I don't want Civil War, but I do want people in power aware that they are running a football club and one that has one of its merger partners that was able to sustain itself long after the finances turned red.

I think TLR is trying to engage the club in this manner as gentler efforts (such as email dialogue, AGM queries) have been utterly rebuffed. The exasperation shown here I think is the ongoing indifference of the board to something that a fair proportion of fans consider fairly important. If the majority of supporters feel as you do then, if voted on, the status quo will remain. All we ask is to be given the opportunity to vote on it, something that would incur the club minimal expense if performed online.

As to what caused me to support Brisbane- it is exactly and directly the Fitzroy Lion that allowed me to follow an interstate club. After Fitzroy merged I tried following North but it was the symbol of Fitzroy being worn on the chest that allowed me to transfer my allegiances north of the border. If I had of known they would change the jumper (and the way they treated Fitzroy in '09/'10) I possibly would have stuck with North. But now that I do follow Brisbane I just want the board to respect tradition, it's members and good taste and have a vote on the jumper.

I sent them a letter way back when this all started (2009?)

From memory the public response from Bowers was that if you're not a member, we don't really care about your opinion. To be fair I'm not a supporter either, I just sent one at the urging of BrownDog from memory.

As for Johnson and the Lions Board in general. Leigh Matthews said it best when he mused that there just isn't an appetite to be on the Lions Board from the big end of town in Brisbane, while in Melbourne - its like a feather in the cap to be on an AFL Club board if you're batting in the big leagues.

I think the problem is 2 fold though. Most big corporate players in Brisbane that are fans of Aussie Rules, are often ex pat Victorians that still support a Victorian based club. The other big wigs all follow Union/League.

Bump - produce Roos imminently and then pack your stuff and head out the door with the rest of the Board.
